Of all the cautionary lessons that horror imparts, one of the most common warns us never to mess with Mother Nature. Those who are careless or hostile to the environment often meet their demises when Earth retaliates violently in eco-horror movies.
Ecological horror movies explore humankind’s estranged, fractured relationship with the planet, and its characters often find themselves on the defense against nature’s wrath. In celebration of Earth Day, an annual event in support of environmental protection, we’re looking back at some of the best eco-horror movies that remind us to take care of our planet… or else.
Here are ten eco-horror movies to watch this Earth Day.

Dune 2 Star Timothee Chalamet Movies Ranked As Per Rotten Tomatoes. (Photo Credit – IMDb)
Timothee Chalamet is being lauded for his fantastic performance in Denis Villeneuve’s epic saga Dune 2. The film was released in the theatres on Friday, and it’s a visual treat for moviegoers. The film is one of the top-rated ones across various platforms, but Chalamet, over his short career span, has given several high-rated films.
Chalamet won hearts with his lively performance as Willy Wonka in last year’s Wonka. It became his career’s highest-grossing film as a leading man. But it seems Dune 2 might take away that title soon. He is essaying the character of Paul Atreides, and his ascension in this part has been remarkably shown. Scroll below for more.
Timothee Chalamet’s character Paul seemed a bit lost in the first film but understood his purpose and became a leader in Dune 2.

I first learned about Matthew Holness' "Possum" when it was seeking distribution during the American Film Market. Hundreds of titles were on display, but everyone was talking about a black and white poster of a bed with a bag on it ... but the bag and gigantic spider legs sticking out of it. The image sparked a visceral reaction from anyone who walked by, but few could have predicted the abject terror that would come with "Possum." The closest genre to define "Possum" is a psychological thriller, but it's filled with jarring imagery, effective jump scares, and a story that crawls under your skin — and stays there.
"Possum" is based on Holness' short story of the same name featured in "The New Uncanny: Tales of Unease," and incorporates Sigmund Freud's theories on the uncanny. Utilizing a filmmaking...

Hollywood's fascination with science fiction has produced some of the greatest thrills in movie history. "Star Wars," "Blade Runner," "The Matrix," "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial," and "The Day the Earth Stood Still" are but a handful of films that rank high amongst genre enthusiasts for their audacious ideas, innovative visuals, originality, colorful characters, and timeless appeal. Crafting these timeless masterpieces requires significant effort and unwavering commitment, and should not be underestimated. Many production stories showcase the extent to which producers and directors are willing to go to realize their vision -- even if it comes at the cost of the actors' well-being.

Anyone who has seen "Mission: Impossible - Fallout" remembers the film's big antagonist reveal scene. CIA operative August Walker (Henry Cavill), known best for beating up goons in bathrooms and reloading his muscles, is unveiled to be none other than John Lark, an extremist in cahoots with terrorist mastermind Solomon Lane (Sean Harris). This pivotal scene is preceded by an equally tense sequence, where Imf Secretary Alan Hunley (Alec Baldwin) accuses Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) of being Lark, and the two engage in a heated discussion about the mission and the stakes at hand. While this scene flows pretty naturally after the intense action that precedes it, there were practical reasons behind the zoomed-in focus on Hunt and Hunley's faces, who were seen leaning against the table during the scene.

Christopher McQuarrie's 2015 film "Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation" is arguably the best film in the series. Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) was getting a little older and was considered decreasingly trustworthy by his sour-faced bosses at the Impossible Missions Force. "Rogue Nation" saw him tracking down the identities of a rogue nation of ex-spies who were secretly working together to, essentially, destroy the world. Complicating matters, however, was a mysterious free agent named Ilsa Faust (Rebecca Ferguson) who had to commit secret spy shenanigans for her own reasons. Like "Mad Max: Fury Road" from the same year, "Rogue Nation" not only upped the voltage on the action but shifted focus away from the central male character, placing it instead on a much more interesting and capable woman.

One of the most foundational pillars of horror also happens to be one of its more nebulously defined subgenres: the creature feature. At its most ubiquitous of definitions, the creature feature is simply a horror movie in which a monster plays a prominent role as the primary antagonist; the term says it all. It’s the creature part that’s loose for interpretation, of course.
A creature feature could be anything from carnivorous aliens from space to manmade monsters that turn on their makers, and everything in between. Often, a creature feature highlights nature running amok. This week’s streaming picks are dedicated to the horror movies that bring the monster mayhem in various ways, but all showcase excellent practical effects.

“The disposal of the bullion caused the birth of large-scale international money laundering, provided the dirty money that helped fuel the ‘London Docklands’ property boom, united blue and white collar criminals, and left controversy and murder in its wake…...

In 2018's "Mission: Impossible—Fallout," the dastardly rogue agent Solomon Lane (Sean Harris) revels in messing with the mind of Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) by making him question the principles and values of his entire life spent working for the Imf (Impossible Mission Force). In particular, Lane points out the Imf's code with regards to accepting missions given to their agents; the operative phrase, as adopted from the original 1966 television series, being "your mission, should you choose to accept it," a wording that implies consent and power of choice.
That choice was unfortunately not afforded to residents of Los Angeles back in 2006, when "Mission: Impossible III" was about to be released in theaters. As some lucky (or unlucky) folks discovered, there was a highly suspicious-looking red plastic box attached with wires to a news rack in Santa Clarita, California, a device that enough people reported so as to attract the attention and action of an L.

When the Oscar nominations came out earlier this year, we saw the literal luck of the Irish (at least in terms of nods). For starters, British-Irish filmmaker Martin McDonagh’s acclaimed black comedy The Banshees of Inisherin garnered nine nominations including Best Picture, Best Actor for Colin Farrell, and Best Original Screenplay. Additionally, the in-demand heartthrob Paul Mescal earned a Best Actor nomination for Aftersun while The Quiet Girl represents Ireland in Best International Feature, becoming the country’s first film to do so.
It was a good day in January for Irish representation, although how things shook out later on Oscar night might be the flip side of that luck.
Nonetheless, to mark this particular occasion, along with St. Patrick’s Day, below is a list of eleven recommended modern films that are at least co-produced by Ireland and which chiefly take place on the Emerald Isle for those...

Tot up the time you’ve wasted scrolling through streaming apps in search of the perfect viewing choice for that particular Tuesday night, and it’ll scare you. Hours of your life, accumulatively spent clicking the right-hand arrow and muting autoplay trailers. Instead of giving your thumb a work-out, you could have been composing symphonies! Writing the next great American novel! Gazing into the eyes of your loved ones! Or even better, actually watching TV.
No more. Every month, Den of Geek picks our TV recommendations to save your time. Here’s what February has to offer…
Best of the Best: Stolen Youth
Stream On: Hulu (U.S.), Disney+ (U.K.)
With so many true crime options available in the streaming world, you could be forgiven for thinking that they’re mostly interchangeable. That line of thinking would be a mistake with Stolen Youth: Inside the Cult at Sarah Lawrence.

BBC One’s latest crime drama, The Gold, tells a story so far-fetched it’s hard to believe it could have really happened.
But the story of how six men accidentally stole more than £27m worth of gold bullion is, in fact, completely true.
The six-part series focuses on the Brink’s-Mat robbery of 1983, and its far-reaching consequences.
You can read about the remarkable true story that inspired the series here.
But which parts of the series are rooted in truth, and which ones are fabricated for the purposes of its story?
Here’s a quick guide to sorting fact from fiction…
The robbery itself is recreated accurately to all historical accounts. The robbers did in fact pour gasoline on the security staff at the Brink’s-Mat depot, and threatened to set them alight if they didn’t provide them access to the vault.

How do you tell the story of a heist, when the heist isn’t the story? In 1983, six masked burglars broke into a warehouse on a trading estate near Heathrow. They were looking to crack into a vault, but when the security guards failed to provide a passcode – even when doused in petrol and threatened with a naked flame – attention turned to the glistening stash outside the vault. And this is where the story of The Gold, BBC One’s new six-part retelling of the Brink’s-Mat robbery, begins. This isn’t the story of a heist, but of what happened next.
“How do you shift three tonnes of gold?” asks Charlotte Spencer’s Rotherhithe local copper, Nicki. “Slowly,” replies her partner Tony (Emun Elliott). There are other adverbs he might have chosen: agonisingly, complicatedly, infuriatingly. Instead of the expected million quid in the vault, the team of low-level crooks...

Each "Alien" franchise film entry contains multitudes. In the films' futuristic universe, horror, sci-fi, and action movie conventions come together to form a unique world. The themes tackled in the films also run the gamut: Each film has several different meanings, depending on the viewer's interpretation. The franchise touches on the evils of capitalism and militarism, the notion of bodily autonomy, the limitations of science and technology, and the often slippery definitions of humanity and morality.
While Sigourney Weaver may be the face of the franchise, the real stars of these films are its creatures. While the ideological implications of the films engage our intellectual sides, its terrifying aliens are what keep us on the edge of our seats. Without the Xenomorphs and their descendants, these movies would be a lot less interesting.
Though each film in the franchise has its charms, not every alien is created equal -- especially regarding their relative creep-out factors.

This week’s guest is Joel Edgerton.
