There will be no third season of Netflix’s space drama Another Life, star Katee Sackhoff revealed on Twitter Monday. The news, which is not surprising, comes four months after the release of Season 2 on Oct. 14.
“I wish we could do more seasons but sadly it’s just not in the cards,” Sackhoff wrote in her note to fans, thanking “everyone single person who watched & supported Another Life on Netflix.”
Created by Aaron Martin, who also served as showrunner, Another Life centers on astronaut Niko Breckinridge (Sackhoff) who is focused on searching for alien intelligence. She leads a crew on a mission to explore the genesis of an alien artifact. As Niko and her young crew investigate, they face unimaginable danger on what might very well be a one-way mission.

Netflix’s new series “Another Life” brings Katee Sackhoff back into space, a decade after the conclusion of “Battlestar Galactica,” the beloved series on which she starred. But her new series looks more like the rest of the fare on the SyFy network — it’s inelegantly made and operates less in the realm of ideas than in pure scares. It’s not ineffective, but little in “Another Life” connects to do much more than the purely visceral.
Which is too bad, not least because the show starts from a point that suggests it has big things on its mind. The arrival (to borrow the title of the 2016 film the plot seems to ape a bit) of a UFO hovering above Earth prompts Sackhoff, an astronaut, to join a mission seeking its origin and its motives. She’s faced first with a mutinous blowhard among her crew and then by a...

Streaming giant Netflix has announced plans to team with Halfire Entertainment and Canadian broadcaster CBC for the six-hour scripted true-crime miniseries "Alias Grace" based on the 1996 non-fiction book by Margaret Atwood.

McDermott was hanged, while Marks was sentenced to life imprisonment. She became one of the most enigmatic and notorious women of 1840s Canada and was eventually exonerated after thirty years in jail.
The series will introduce a fictional young doctor who researches the case and falls in love with Marks. He soon becomes obsessed with her as he seeks to reconcile his perception of the mild-mannered woman he sees with the savage murder of which she has been convicted.

NBC has picked up 12-episode series single-camera comedy Working The Engels, starring Sctv alumna Andrea Martin. NBC will co-produce the series with Core Media/Noreen Halpern’s Halfire-core Entertainment, which has a 3-for-1 drama series deal at NBC, and Canada’s Shaw Media. American networks have teamed with Canadian broadcasters on comedy projects before — most recently last season when ABC partnered with Shaw to co-produce a half-hour by Bob Martin — but this is the first time such a collaboration has gone to series. Working The Engles, created and written by Katie Ford and Jane Ford, centers on a family who must band together to keep their heads above water when their father and breadwinner passes away, leaving them a mountain of debt. The Engels must all go to work running Dad’s storefront law firm, with one minor problem — daughter Jenna is the only one who is qualified to practice law.

Nice Entertainment is turning into quite the acquisition target. I’ve learned that American Idol parent Core Media Group has joined the list of potential suitors for the Scandinavian production company. Core had signaled commitment to adding international presence to its U.S. operations, and I hear the company’s international team has had a number of meetings with key Nice executives over the course of several months. Other companies that are reportedly looking at Nice are UK’s leading private broadcaster ITV, said to be mulling a $135 bid, as well as Fremantle, Sony and Time Warner. The Helsinki-based Nice, which has branches in Finland, Norway, Denmark and Sweden, is the largest independent group of production companies in the Nordic region and is the No.1 producer in two of the markets, Finland and Norway. The company makes both drama and reality series with a portfolio that includes Hidden Tracks, The Half Brother,...

Halfire-core, Core Media Group’s scripted production venture with veteran Canadian producer Noreen Halpern‘s Halfire Entertainment banner, has closed a deal with NBC. Under the 3-for-1 agreement, Halfire-core will develop three lower budget drama projects for NBC, one of which is expected to go to series. No concepts or writers for the projects have been identified yet, but the producers are expected to begin the process shortly. The pact illustrates Halfire-core’s strategy of entering the scripted primetime space by bypassing the traditional pilot cycle and going with a straight-to-series model instead. It also extends on NBC’s efforts in the lower-cost drama arena where the network has been probably the most active broadcast network, experimenting with different templates and partners, including Gaumont (Hannibal) and Georgeville TV (Crossbones). The soon-to-be show, The Firm, is continuing to roll out info, and the latest is that Molly Parker will join the show as Abby McDeere, wife of the (I suppose) main attraction, Mitchell McDeere, played by Josh Lucas. While not all that much is known about the show, except that it is somehow the continuing story, ten years later, we know that we're aiming at some pretty cool names - see below - including Juliette Lewis.
With the addition of Molly Parker, the show instantly changes into something I'm going to have to watch. Star of some of the best, and weirdest, indie films around, Parker is a stunning actress, in every possible sense.
I know there are a lot of people excited for the show, but I know there are many others who have already dismissed it. It's time to rethink our positions.
