Set to premiere in the nation's capital, Zero Dark Thirty got the party started in Washington D.C. a few weeks early. Kathryn Bigelow and Mark Boal's drama about the decade-long search for Osama bin Laden was named the year's best film by the Washington D.C. Area Film Critics Association on Monday, marking the second time they've won that award. Their last movie, 2009's war picture The Hurt Locker, was also named best film. "In a year full of strong films," Wafca president Tim Gordon said, "director Kathryn Bigelow's bold and audacious vision, represented in our Best

Did you forget there was a prequel to John Carpenter's The Thing coming out in just a few weeks? Like on October 14th? I bet you did. And apparently so did Universal because there's been very little in the way of hype for it. Hell, John and I just made an appearance on our pal Tim Gordon's Keeping It Reel broadcast for the Fall Preview Show, and I don't think it even got brought up. What the...

2011 is already halfway over! Isn't that crazy? And like we do every year it's time for us to take a look back and remember the best of what we've seen so far...and also the worst. Who gave the performances we hope don't get forgotten at awards season? We'll be joined by the Movie Mom herself, Nell Minow, as well as Tim Gordon to get their thoughts. But before all that we'll also have...

This one's for my buddy and colleague, Tim Gordon. We just finished discussing earlier tonight at the Fast Five screening about how Tim Story, who directed both terrible Fantastic Four flicks, was having a hard time getting work. Both Ff films weren't very good, but they still pulled in a pretty penny. And let's not forget that Story also has the very successful Barbershop under his hat. It...

The Washington, D.C. Area Film Critics Association (Wafca) today announced their 2009 winners, awarding Best Film to Up in the Air. Additionally, awards were given to Broadway star Carey Mulligan, most recently of The Seagull, for her work in the film "An Education," as well as the upcoming film of Maury Yeston's "Nine."
Relative newcomer Carey Mulligan took home the Best Actress award for An Education, while what many considered the only locks of the season - the Best Supporting Actor and Actress categories - went to Christoph Waltz (Inglourious Basterds) and Mo'Nique (Precious), respectively. Precious also walked away with the Best Breakthrough Performance for first-time actress Gabourey Sidibe.
