“National Treasure: Edge of History” has been canceled at Disney+ after one season, Variety has confirmed.
Based on the “National Treasure” film franchise, Disney’s TV adaptation followed treasure hunter Jess Venezuela. After a stranger gives her a tip about a centuries-old treasure possibly connected to her father, she and her friends set out on the hunt. Lisette Olivera, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Zuri Reed, Antonio Cipriano, Jordan Rodrigues, Jake Austin Walker, and Lyndon Smith were among the cast.
In the season one finale, which aired in February, co-creators Marianne and Cormac Wibberley (who also wrote the first two films) closed the first installment unveiling a “National Treasure” twist. FBI Agent Hendricks (Armando Riesco) — who appeared in both “National Treasure” films and recurred on the series — revealed himself to be the Cras Est Nostrum’s Salazar, a generational title for wizard behind the curtain and had been secretly sabotaging Billie’s (Zeta-Jones) Treasure Destoyer hunts.

Big Shot starred John Stamos as Marvyn Korn, a basketball coach who loses a job as NCAA head coach and becomes a coach for an elite, all-girls private high school, quickly learning that he’ll need to cultivate empathy and vulnerability for the post. “By learning to connect with his players and his daughter, Marvyn starts to grow into the person he’s always hoped to be,” Disney+ added in a synopsis. “The girls learn to take themselves more seriously, finding their footing both on and off the court.” The Big Shot cast also included Jessalyn Gilsig, Sophia Mitri Schloss, Nell Verlaque, Tiana Le, Tisha Custodio, Cricket Wampler, Sara Echeagaray, and Yvette Nicole Brown. We have some bad news for fans of Mighty Ducks: Game Changers and Big Shot.
Disney+ announced Friday that both series had been canceled after their second seasons.
The news is hardly surprising.
Some big changes are happening at Disney, including the decision to space out the Marvel Cinematic Universe series and movies.
In June, Peter Rice exited Disney. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a source said that the second-season renewals for both series were an example of his "questionable deal-making."
That would suggest that neither series performed well enough during their freshman seasons to warrant renewals.
The issue with streaming services is that the viewership statistics are rarely made public, meaning that we only typically hear about a show's numbers if it is successful.
Even then, it's hard to judge what will happen.
For example, the series premiere of the Gossip Girl reboot on HBO Max was said to...

“1923” has lassoed a second season at Paramount+.
Taylor Sheridan’s “Yellowstone” prequel stars Harrison Ford as Dutton patriarch Jacob and Helen Mirren as his Irish-born wife Cara. The series follows their generation of the Dutton family as they face pandemics, drought and the end of the Prohibition era in 1920s Montana.
“1923” proved to be a hit early on, becoming the most-watched Paramount+ premiere of all time in the U.S. with 7.4 million viewers. It also received positive reviews, with Variety critic Joshua Alston writing that “Mirren and Ford – both 80-ish, neither a stranger to action badassery – make for such a potent pairing, their chemistry alone is enough to make ‘1923’ feel like an elevated version of Sheridan’s neo-Western fare.”
In addition to Ford and Mirren, the show stars Brandon Sklenar, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Marley Shelton, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Jerome Flynn and Julia Schlaepfer.

“Big Shot” is the story of a once-successful but temperamental NCAA basketball coach who lands in hot water when he injures a referee. Add to it a failed marriage, and this hotshot coach is brought down a few pegs.
Now that he’s busted down to minor leagues, he needs to coach the sports team of an all-girls high school. But there’s a caveat — those kids don’t take him seriously. As the dramedy moves on, he magically finds his way back and ends up having a phenomenal redemption arc. “Big Shot” is a true depiction of how second chances can be life-changing.
The series debuted on Disney+ on April 16, 2021. David E. Kelley, Bill D’Elia, Dean Lorey, and Brad Garrett are the executive producers of “Big Shot.” ABC Signature is the studio. It is rumored that the production for season two will kickstart somewhere in 2022.

Upon arriving for his first day at the prestigious Westbrook School for Girls in Disney+’s Big Shot, John Stamos‘ disgraced basketball coach Marvyn Korn is confronted by Yvette Nicole Brown‘s no-nonsense headmaster, Sherilyn Thomas: “Coaches here are not just teachers,” she tells him. “They’re expected to be role models.” But is Korn capable of setting a good example?

The family sports drama is familiar territory, especially for the House of Mouse. The studio has crafted all manner of acerbic coaches and ragtag teams needing to be whipped into shape. But none of those past incarnations had John Stamos, America’s favorite rebel uncle, at the helm. And it is Stamos’ presence that makes the series charming, sweet, and more enjoyable than it has any right to be — especially considering how horrible his character starts out.
Stamos plays Marvyn Korn, a former coach for the NCAA who was benched for being the guy throwing chairs and berating referees. He’s given a foot back in the door by coaching the girls basketball team at the elite La Jolla prep school, Westbrook School for Girls. Almost immediately comparisons to “A League of Their Own” abound.

Big Shot, starring John Stamos, Jessalyn Gilsig, Yvette Nicole Brown, and a slew of talented young women performers, could be summed up as "life according to basketball."
A quick internet search provides many articles about the important lessons basketball teaches, but Coach Marvyn Korn (Stamos) still has a lot to learn despite his celebrated accomplishments in the NCAA.
By the time we catch up with Coach Korn, his 12 conference titles and three championships are old news, and finding his next coaching gig doesn't come easily.
So when he's offered an opportunity at an all-girls high school, he's not eager for the new experience but resigned to the fact that it's the best he can do for now. Still, Marvyn Korn has been propelled all of his life by his father's words -- he's an embarrassment -- to do everything he can to prove otherwise.

Jessalyn Gilsig has a long and colorful resume playing characters we often love to hate.
On Disney+'s Big Shot, Gilsig is an assistant coach at an all-girls school named Holly. Holly is warm and genuine, with a respectable and healthy understanding of work/life balance.
Put simply, there isn't a single thing about Holly that is anything but lovely, and Gilsig plays her beautifully.
Big shot centers on Coach Marvyn Korn, played by John Stamos, a former college coach out of prospects who takes what he thinks is a professional tumble down to coaching high-school basketball.
Landing the role of Holly brought Gilsig together again with producer David E. Kelly, with whom she worked on the acclaimed series Boston Public, and director Bill D'Elia, with whom she's worked several times over the years.
Her role initially skewed younger, but when the story went in a different direction, she got...

Marvyn Korn is no Ted Lasso. But he might have to be in order to thrive, both as a coach and as the main character of a new streaming TV show.

“The character Naya played, Santana Lopez, was ground-breaking for closeted queer girls — like I was at the time,” she went on. “And her ambition and accomplishments inspired Latina women all over the world.”

Disney+’s Big Shot session at TCA had to navigate through a fair share of technical difficulties before series actress Yvette Nicole Brown saved the day by using her moderating skills and talking to her fellow cast members, John Stamos and Jessalyn Gilsig as well as Executive Producer/Showrunner Dean Lorey and Executive Producer/Director Bill D’Elia. Exclusive: Jessalyn Gilsig (Vikings) has been cast as a female lead opposite John Stamos in Big Shot, Disney+ upcoming original series written and executive produced by David E. Kelley and Dean Lorey and produced by ABC Studios, part of Disney Television Studios.
The 10-episode series follows a temperamental college basketball coach (Stamos) who gets fired from his job and must take a teaching and coaching job at an elite all-girls private high school.

The role of Holly was originally conceived and cast younger but I hear the character has since evolved to be more of a contemporary to Stamos’ Marvin — and potential love interest for him down the road — leading to the recasting.

While Olivia and her renewed allies at Qpa spent Thursday’s Scandal doing their best to save Mellie’s presidency, Marcus (and Fitz by proxy) made it his mission to save her soul.
“Dark, desperate and capable of going to be a place she can’t come back from” was how Marcus described the president during a concerned chat with Fitz, suggesting that the former Potus still seems “haunted” and “tormented” by his days in office. “You survived the Oval, but don’t you think Mellie deserves better than that?”
