- He was a lineman (guard) in the NFL from 1950-1959 (and the AAFC in 1949), with the Cleveland Browns (1950-1956), Philadelphia Eagles (1956-1957) and Chicago Bears (1958-1959). He won 3 championships with Cleveland, and played in 5 Pro Bowls.
- Longtime assistant football coach with the Washington Redskins (1960-1964), Chicago Bears (1965-1971) and Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1976-1984). He was head coach of the Bears from 1972-1974, and also a head coach in the World Football League (Chicago) in 1975.
