- January 2004 - Inducted into the International Masters Swimming Hall of Fame in the category "Honor Water Polo Player". Since 1988 he has played in every Masters World Championship, progressing through 5 different age groups.
- Received his B.S. degree from the University of Utah in 1968 and followed that with an M.S. degree, from the same university, in 1969. During this time, he was an NCAA All-American swimmer and water polo player.
- During the 1970s and 1980s, was a member of the Dolphin Club of San Francisco, which hosts an annual 1.5-mile swim from Alcatraz Island to the San Francisco shore on New Year's Day. Mike won the race 12 years straight and established a record speed of 24 minutes, 36 seconds.
- As a member of the San Francisco Dolphin Club for 49 years Mike won the Golden Gate Bridge swim 13 times. He has swam the Bridge swim 26 times and in 2017, after a 25 year lay off, swam in the 100th anniversary of this swim.
