Director: Sean Branney.
Writers: H.P. Lovecraft (story), Sean Branney and Andrew Leman (screenplay).
Cast: Stephen Blackehart, Annie Abrams and Matt Lagan.
Enthusiasts of H.P. Lovecraft will eat up the cinematic adaption of the tale, The Whisperer in Darkness. Made by the members of the H.P. Lovecraft Historical Society, this film is very clearly a labour of love that came close to not finishing due to funding issues. But thankfully, Sandy Peterson, author of Call of Cthulhu, the role-playing game, saved the day by injecting the money needed to finish the project.
When turning Lovecraft’s works to cinematic expression, some liberties were taken. This movie nicely reproduces the style in films like Dracula, Frankenstein and The Mummy with the set designs and title cards. Also added is a Little Shop of Horrors style (the original) ending. But ultimately, this movie is an update than a wholly faithful adaptation. Had it...

Robert Zemeckis (Flight, Real Steel) and screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos (Snow White and the Huntsman) are developing a big-screen adaptation of Dark Horse Comics‘ four-issue steampunk paranormal adventure series, Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained created by Peter M. Lenkov (R.I.P.D.) and Frazer Irving.
THR reports that the adaptation for Universal Pictures, called simply Charles Fort is being described by some who know the material as a “period Ghostbusters” that is is based on an early 20th century American researcher who wrote about mysterious events and “anomalous phenomena.” He penned such books as “The Book of the Damned” (1919) and “New Lands” (1923), which touched on themes that included alien abduction, teleportation, spontaneous human combustion and levitation.
The 2002 comic book series penned by Lenkov saw Fort become a paranormal investigator who clashed with aliens and murderers with the help of a young H. P. Lovecraft in turn-of-the-nineteenth-century New York City.

Not content with his role as super-sleuth Sherlock Holmes, Robert Downey Jr wants to breathe new life into another fictional investigator by playing Perry Mason on the big screen.
Iron Man star Robert, his wife Susan Downey and Warner Bros are teaming up to revive the defence attorney, who originated in Erle Stanley Gardner's novels and has also featured on radio and TV, most notably in the 1957-1966 series starring Raymond Burr.
A writer will be hired to create a script based on an original story idea by the actor and executive producer David Gambino, reports Variety, with the Downeys acting as producers on the film.
Variety says the new film "will be set in the rough-and-tumble world of early 1930s L.A. and feature Mason's secretary Della Street, private investigator Paul Drake and Mason's longtime courtroom nemesis Hamilton Burger."

Robert Zemeckis wants to make a "period Ghostbusters" film that centers on writer and researcher Charles Fort — who happens to have been a pretty big skeptic, despite investigating the strange world of aliens, the occult, and more. Even if you haven't heard of the man, you may have read the Fortean Times, which also hosts an annual "unconvention" for readers. The recently released Mars Needs Moms wasn't so kind to Zemeckis — who is better known for the Back to the Future series, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, and Forrest Gump. He also faced rejection with Disney while trying to get his Yellow Submarine remake off the ground, but where those features failed others are starting to seem like strong possibilities — like the Tom Hanks...

While plebes like us continue to wring our hands over rumors, mumblings and rumblings of a third "Ghostbusters" movie, producer Robert Zemeckis is actually doing something about it, setting up his own "period 'Ghostbusters'," based on a Dark Horse comic about real-life writer-about-the-paranormal Charles Fort.
In 2002, Dark Horse released the series "Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained," written by Peter Lenkov, who also scripted the source material for "R.I.P.D.," and drawn by comic book superstar Frazer Irving, who has since had notable runs drawing Batman, Iron Man and more. The story focused on a fictionalized version of Fort, which transformed him from a writer to, in the words of The Hollywood Reporter, "an adventurous investigator tangling with aliens and murderers in turn-of-the-nineteenth-century New York City."
Currently, Robert Zemeckis is signed on to produce the film along with Mike Richardson, the publisher and founder of Dark Horse Comics. Writing the script will be Evan Spiliotopoulos,...

With his return to live-action filmmaking on the horizon with Flight starring Denzel Washington, director Robert Zemeckis is also keeping his producing hand busy as well. Heat Vision has word that Zemeckis will produce a paranormal adventure film called Charles Fort with Evan Spiliotopoulos (who wrote the forthcoming Snow White and the Huntsman) slated to write the story described as a period Ghostbusters. The story is an adaptation of a short Dark Horse comic series which sees early-twentieth-century American researcher and writer Charles Fort turned into an adventurous paranormal investigator. More below! The four-issue series from 2002 has Fort getting caught up with aliens and murderers in New York City at the turn of the 19th century. The comic isn't too far removed from Fort himself as the researchers real-life books like The Book of the Damned and New Lands were some of the first to look into such phenomenon and...

You can’t turn on the TV nowadays without running into some show about ghost hunters (mostly kids and adults who should know better running around in the dark with cameras), the paranormal (yes, there is definitely a monster in your basemen), or faux “scientists” trying to explain the unexplainable (and even some explainable) things and events from history away on aliens. (No, genius, aliens didn’t build the Great Wall of China in order to fight an intergalactic war.) They’re everywhere, even on the History Channel, which is embarrassing, but there you have it. So who was one of the first guys to see ghosts and aliens and other assorted paranormal shenanigans in everything? Apparently his name was Charles Fort, and Robert Zemeckis wants to tell his life story. Heat Vision describes Fort thusly: Charles Fort was an early-twentieth-century American researcher and writer whose focus was “anomalous phenomena” and the unexplained.

Dark Horse Comic's "Fort" may find life on the screen. Producer Robert Zemeckis is developing an adaptation with screenwriter Evan Spiliotopoulos. The "Fort" series put a fictional spin on New York writer Charles Fort's life. The real CFort was born in the 1800s. He went on to become a known for his research into "anomalous phenomena." Of course, his interest in the supernatural paved the way for an interesting, but not entirely great, comic book in which he battled various threats from out of this world. This is where the film will take off, says THR, becoming a "period Ghostbusters film" of sorts. Universal is partnering with Dark Horse in this endeavor to bring Charles Fort to life.

Robert Zemeckis will produce and Evan Spiliotopoulos is set to write the supernatural thriller "Charles Fort" at Universal Pictures says Heat Vision.
Fort was an early 20th century American researcher and writer whose focus was "anomalous phenomena" and the unexplained. He wrote some of the first books on the material and is described as a "curious skeptic who enjoyed collecting data to support explanations" for strange things.
Dark Horse published a 2002 comic mini-series which portrayed Fort as an adventurous investigator tangling with aliens and murderers in turn-of-the-century New York City.
The film marks the first project set up by Imagemovers under their newly minted first-look deal with the studio. Mike Richardson, Jack Rapke and Steve Starkey are producing.

Ghostbusters 3 is simply never going to happen. Without Venkman on board there can never really be a GB3, and as much as we.d like to see it, we.re not going to. Swooping in to save the day however is Robert Zemeckis with Dark Horse Comics property Charles Fort, a supernatural thriller that has been described as a .period Ghostbusters., according to THR. The film will be based on a four part series released by Dark Horse back in 2002 called Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained. Fort himself is not a fictional character and spent the early 19th century trying to explain the unexplained, kind of like an early member of the Ghost Hunters. The comic series took some license though and made him more of an action adventurer, but this alteration will obviously bring the excitement of the story to the next level. Evan Spiliotopoulos is on board...

Right on the eve of Real Steel‘s theatrical release, we’re learning from THR that Robert Zemeckis will be adding another producing credit to his belt, this time a “period Ghostbusters” named Charles Fort. The film is semi-based on the real experiences of the actual Charles Fort, a researcher of paranormal events (or anomalist) that mainly worked in the first half of the 20th century and inspired many researchers of his kind to the modern day. Where this is really taking an influence from is the Dark Horse comic Fort: Prophet of the Unexplained, a series created by R.I.P.D. writer Peter M. Lenkov.
That four-issue run of comics had Fort working with an alien to solve a series of murders in New York City circa 1899. High-concept, sure, but remember the subject matter. One of the main characters of the story, and a frequent assistant of the protagonist, is H.P. Lovecraft — kind of appropriate,...

Now that Robert Zemeckis has left behind the world of time-intensive performance-capture films, he is setting up projects left and right. As he prepares to film Flight with Denzel Washington, the producer/director has other projects simmering. One new possibility is Charles Fort, which has been called a period-set take on Ghostbusters. There's a lot more to Charles Fort, a real figure, than some pre-technological Peter Venkman, however. In fact, Charles Fort would be a lot more like Ray Stantz. He was an early 20th-century figure whose name became synonymous with odd phenomena. (Ever hear the term 'fortean' applied to the strange or unexplained? That's him.) Fort was a journalist and novelist who did intensive research into unexplained occurrences like teleportation, levitation, spontaneous combustion, poltergeists and more. That research led to four books ( The Book of the Damned in 1919; New Lands in 1923; Lo! in 1931; and Wild Talents in 1932) and an...
