If you’re in striking distance of Colchester, Essex next Saturday, 7th September, then you really need to get yourself into Britain’s oldest recorded town to witness the 2013 Invasion!
The result of hard work by Kerrie Williams and Simon Leonard, Invasion is a charitable event that supports St Helena Hospice and the Colchester Hospitals Charity, and will feature an impressively large gathering of television and film characters. From a squadron of Colonial Marines (from Aliens) to the Ghostbusters, from slasher king Jason Vorhees to dragon queen Daenerys Stormborn from Game of Thrones, there will be plenty of photo opportunities for fans, providing they can run the gauntlet of Imperial Stormtroopers and other denizens of the Star Wars universe.
As well as the characters, there are special guests in the form of Alan Flyng, Ralph Morse, Pam Rose and Nick Joseph, all...

This week's collection of crowdfunding projects includes a rocketman comedy, and a worthy cause with a Star Wars theme...
As well as being a launch pad for original ideas from untested talent, the crowdfunding phenomenon also has an additional, perhaps even more worthwhile service to offer: providing a source of funds for worthy causes.
Our policy of focusing on specifically geek-friendly projects means we can't often cover these in our weekly posts, but one Kickstarter campaign we stumbled on this week managed to be both nerdy and supremely worthwhile: a Star Wars day for the visually impaired and disabled. It's a great idea that we hope does well - and inspires similar events elsewhere in the UK and abroad.
Rocketmen: The Webseries
A comedy web series about the boredom of being a rocket-powered crime fighter rather than the exhilaration, Webster Crowell's Rocketmen looks like a quirky treat.

Star Wars Fan Days IV is coming soon to the Dfw area. If you haven't heard of it, it's one of the largest Star Wars conventions right behind the big Celebration. Needless to say tons of people are going to be there from the films, the show, and even the authors of the Star Wars books. The good news? A lot are signing for free.
This is the press release I got from the people running the event. And don't worry, I'm going to be there at the event, so if you can't make it, I'll be sure to fill you in on what you missed. All the details on the when/where/and how much are below:
Star Wars fans are in for a special treat at this year’s Fan Days where at least half a dozen
