Amazon Prime Video made its first upfront presentation to advertisers on Tuesday in New York, with the streamer bringing out some of its biggest stars to break some news while touting its original series, film and sports offerings.
Amazon took over Pier 36 in Manhattan, which included a large installation dedicated to Amazon shows like “Fallout” and “The Summer I Turned Pretty” as well as movies like “Road House” and their various sports offerings like “Thursday Night Football.”
Amazon’s first major upfront started half an hour late — the long line to get in was referenced several times by Amazon MGM Studios head Jen Salke and even “You’re Cordially Invited” stars Reese Witherspoon and Will Ferrell. But once inside, advertisers were presented a star-studded litany of projects and news designed to make a huge splash in the marketplace.

In 1977, when Darth Vader struck down Sir Alec Guinness' Obi-Wan Kenobi in "Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope," audiences new to the rules of this galaxy far, far away figured this was the last we'd see or hear of the old Jedi master. So when he spoke to his mentee, Luke Skywalker, in the cockpit of his X-wing fighter during his incredibly tense trench run, well, it's a wonder the young man didn't freak out and put his spacecraft into the wall like a spacebound Dale Earnhardt. I always thought the old man should've given Luke a heads-up prior to the assault on the Death Star, just to let him know he might drop by with some disembodied pointers if things got a little hairy.
In any event, this stirring moment let a legion of newly-minted "Star Wars" fans know that Jedi of Kenobi's Forceful magnitude are forever...

Adeem Bingham just couldn’t abide the Aaron Lewis song “Am I the Only One.” The embittered tune, released in 2021, infamously name-checked Bruce Springsteen for being a disappointment to “real” Americans and moaned about the tearing down of Confederate monuments. Bingham, who performs as Adeem the Artist, wasn’t having it.
“It’s a terrible fuckin’ song,” Adeem, who is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns, says. “I listened to it one time and it made me so angry.”

A Hollywood screenwriter could hardly have scripted the story of Nascar drivers Michael Waltrip and Dale Earnhardt more dramatically, and for the most part, “Blink of an Eye” stirringly recounts their fateful tale, which peaked — in simultaneously euphoric and tragic fashion — at the 2001 Daytona 500. Save for a few instances of excessive syrupiness, , bolstered by Waltrip’s recollections and a host of candid interviews. Even moviegoers with no vested interest in motorsports are apt to be moved by this bittersweet Cinderella-ish saga. Partnering with Fathom Events to bring the film to Nascar fans, 1091 Media will release in New York and Los Angeles on Sept. 6, followed by a nationwide rollout the following Wednesday.
Born the youngest of five in Owensboro, Ky., Michael Waltrip aspired to be like his older brother Darrell, a rising star in the racecar field. With a persistence that matched his talent, and through an early partnership with Richard “The King” Petty,...

Here are the best, worst, and weirdest moments from this week's 'DWTS'
This week on Dancing With The Stars, each contestant took a stroll down memory lane to look back at the most important year in their lives to get inspiration for this week's dance.
Some of the songs were emotional, like Bethany Mota's performance that recalled her struggle against cyberbullying and the talented Lea Thompson's tribute to her late father, while others were fun expressions of joy, like Alfonso Ribeiro's adaptation of his famous Fresh Prince dance The Carlton.
Meanwhile, other dances saw Sadie Robertson dressed up like a duck getting 'hunted' by Mark Ballas, decked out in camo and a long, fake, Duck Dynasty beard. Yes, that also happened.

Dancing with the Stars returned Monday with the top 10 celebrity dancers performing routines that channeled their most memorable year. Instead of a guest judge this week, the empty fourth chair was replaced by viewer votes tabulated during each performance.
Dancing With The Stars Recap
Janel Parrish and Val Chmerkovskiy were the first to hit the dance floor, taking on a Rumba. Parrish’s most memorable year, 2002, is when her vocal coach/ second grandmother passed away while she was trying to get a break in Hollywood. Val’s choreography incorporated a lot of contemporary moves into the Latin dance. Most of the judges enjoyed the new take and Janel’s moves, but Bruno Tonioli wanted to see the Pretty Little Liars star improve her spins. Score: 9+9+9+9=36
Jonathan Bennett and Allison Holker wanted to have some fun this week to remember 2004, the year Mean Girls came out. The routine is over-the-top and reliant on the gimmick.

Newly crowned 2014 Daytona 500 champion Dale Earnhardt Jr. spoke exclusively to Uinterview about his hopes for the racing season.
Earnhardt spoke to Uinterview about his run in with Marcos Ambrose at the Sprint Unlimited earlier this February. Earnhardt and Ambrose were racing when Ambrose pushed Earnhardt into the fence, ending the race for both of them.
“We were just kind of going for the same place… I was out front and Marcus was pushing me down the front straight way, and I got to moving around probably a little too much in front of his car, searching for some air,” Earnhardt told Uinterview, “And he decided to start getting offensive on making some moves of his own and we were just miscommunicating with each other at that point in time and ran into each other.”
Earnhardt says he holds no grudges against Ambrose, regardless of how angry he may have seemed at the time.

After hours and hours, the Daytona 500 Nascar race has come to a close, with Dale Earnhardt Jr. claiming the victory. The 2014 edition of the race lasted well into the night after a red flag caused an over six-hour delay, due to severe weather and a tornado warning. The grandstand was evacuated as heavy rain poured down, but there ended up being no tornado.
Once the rain finally passed, the lengthy process of drying the track began, before the race finally resumed at around 8:52 p.m. Et. From there, the race had your normal mix of racing and crashes, with Danica Patrick and Michael Waltrip among those knocked out during an accident on lap 146.
When it got down to the final 10 laps, there was another notable crash that put the racers under caution, though they were able to speed things back up during the final two laps. As Earnhardt Jr.

Another major sports record could be tied this year, the one for Sprint Cup championships in a career: seven, currently held by Richard Petty and the late Dale Earnhardt, and being pursued by Jimmie Johnson.
The 2014 season of Nascar's top series gets into gear Sunday, Feb. 23, at Daytona International Speedway, as Fox airs the 56th running of the Daytona 500. Johnson will begin his quest to tie the record -- as well as defend his 2013 race title -- on the 2.5-mile Florida tri-oval in a 43-car field that includes Matt Kenseth, Carl Edwards, Tony Stewart, Dale Earnhardt Jr., Denny Hamlin and Jeff Gordon. Nascar is all abuzz with what's new, from yet another revised points system — meant to give the final race of the season more of a "playoffs" feel — to the return to competition of Dale Earnhardt's No. 3 car (driven by Rookie of the Year candidate Austin Dillon). But even as the Daytona 500 kicks off a fresh season on Sunday, teams still have to contend with the same old leader — the sport's formidable six-time and defending champion: "The road to the Sprint Cup championship any year goes through Jimmie Johnson," says Fox Nascar commentator Mike Joy. "That's who you have to beat."

"X Factor" mentor Demi Lovato appeared on "The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson" Monday (Dec. 9), where she talked about her experience with drugs and alcohol and going to rehab at the young age of 18.
"I've done the whole partying thing, I've done the whole rehab thing. ... I've always been a really motivated, driven fighter so it's kind of like when I first got sober, I was like, 'I'm going to show all of you, you think I can't get sober? Watch me.'" says Lovato. But she adds that it turned into something she wanted to do for herself.
"I've stuck to it because it's made my life so much better," says the 21-year-old singer. "There's a lot of young people that look up to me and there needs to be someone that stands up and says it's not about molly and partying and all that stuff."
Other highlights from Ms.

USA, 2009
In the midst of a horrific zombie apocalypse that has put paid to much of civilization, an action survivor anti-hero attempts to make an escape from a parking lot with a small crowd of diseased flesh devourers in hot pursuit. He reaches his car, but in his haste drops his keys to the ground, losing vital time. The monsters are almost upon him. So, narrating on the finer points of cardio as he goes, he quickly comes up with a plan; run a lap of the lot, in the knowledge that the zombies won’t be able to keep up with his pace because…well, they’re zombies. He gets back to the car with a more comfortable margin of error and grabs his keys…only to discover that the car was unlocked anyway. With little more than an irritated sigh,...

Bobby Dale Earnhardt, the grandson of Dale Earnhardt, was arrested in West Virginia for drunk driving. An aspiring race car driver, 25-year-old Earnhardt was spotted "driving erratically" around Charleston before police pulled him over around midnight on Aug. 12.
"Mr. Earnhardt was pulled over for making a very wide left turn. After talking with him, our officer noticed his eyes were glassy, speech thick and slurred, smelt of alcohol," police tell TMZ of the incident. "He was asked to get out of the vehicle where he was unsteady and when asked he said he only had 2 shots of alcohol. The officer performed a field sobriety test and determined he was intoxicated. He was taken into custody where he took another ERIR2 test where he blew a .193."
Earnhardt is scheduled to see a judge later on Tuesday, Aug. 13.

RacingWin.com has Written a wonderful article about Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s victory today in a Nascar event. Why does it interest us? Because Dale was driving a car with a Batman paint scheme. Neato! Dale Earnhardt Jr did not have the fastest car at the start of the Quicken Loans 400. But 400 miles later he did as the No. 88 displayed in the No. 1 position on the scoring pylon. Earnhardt started the race 17th and quickly fell back to 25th. But 11 laps into the race crew chief Steve Letarte called for a spring rubber and a chassis adjustment on the black, Batman sponsored No. 88 and the car came to life after that. By lap 70 Earnhardt passed pole-sitter Marcos Ambrose for the lead and quickly pulled away. Earnhardt took the lead for the final time on lap 172 and never looked back for the final 28 laps. The crowd in the grandstands...

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. first broke onto the scene at SXSW in 2011, where they did about eight shows -- the festival serving as a sort of mini, trial tour for those on the cusp of being discovered. This year, the band is eyeing about half as many shows, which they kicked off with a private party Saturday night, hosted by Tito's Vodka. The band, made up of Daniel Zott and Joshua Epstein (not earnestly named race car driver Dale Earnhardt, Jr., and by extension, Dale Earnhardt Sr.) is known for their radio-friendly song "Simple Girl," but their sound is more rock-heavy than their single would let on. Zott, the band's lead vocalist, took a few minutes aside while packing up equipment to chat with HuffPost about their rock-meets-dance sound, how things have changed since SXSW last year and their signature, neon checkered race-car sports coats.

We're just barreling through 2012 here, aren't we? It scares me. You understand that next year is 2013, right? What kind of freaky Kubrickian year is that? Whatever. Let's live in the now and deny that we're heading into a staggering vortex that will kill us all.

The Daytona 500 ran Monday night (Feb. 27) after being rescheduled twice due to heavy rains on Sunday. This 54th running of the race was peppered with bizarre occurrences on the way to Matt Kenseth taking the checkered flag, edging out Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s last-lap effort.
On the way to the victory, the race lasted almost six hours (the longest Daytona ever) and featured several crashes. On lap 2, Jimmie Johnson spun out and took David Ragan, Danica Patrick, Trevor Bayne and Kurt Busch with him.
Then during a caution flag around lap 160, Juan Pablo Montoya lost control and hit an equipment truck with a jet-powered dryer. The ensuing inferno lasted nearly 10 minutes and the repairs took nearly two hours.
And then welcome to the post-modern age, Nascar. During all of this, driver Brad Keselowski was tweeting from his racecar:
Fire! My view http://pic.twitter.com/RWn3xMn6No worries We stopped @LisShoe: @keselowski please!

For the first time in history, Nascar's Daytona 500 race has been postponed thanks to some inconveniently timed rain.
According to Fox Sports, the race was supposed to around 1 p.m. Et on Sunday (Feb. 26), but was delayed when a rain shower began. The 2.5-mile track was dried with jet driers after the rain stopped falling, but when once the track was suitable for racing again it started raining once more (just after 5 p.m. Et).
Because it takes two hours to dry the Daytona track and the rain was expected to continue until at least 8 p.m., Fox reports the Daytona 500 will now begin at noon on Monday, Feb. 27.
Danica Patrick is racing in her first Daytona 500, alongside fellow Nascar drivers Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Jeff Gordon. Patrick was involved in a scary crash on Feb. 23, but a day later won the Nationwide pole position, becoming only...

In this installment we go back to one of the crew's most challenging haunts, Bobby Mackey's Music World (Season 1, Episode 1; Season 4, Episode 3), to talk about how it affected them.
"When we went to Bobby Mackey's in Season 1, I was a idiot," says Bagans, candidly reflecting on the horrors that followed. "I didn’t understand too much of this yet. Detroit's Dale Earnhardt Jr Jr, aka Josh Epstein and Daniel Zott, went to a remote village in Iceland, and after touring the environs in cozy sweaters shot this video in nostalgic hues within the community church. An hour outside of Reykjavík, the village of Sólheimar was founded by a woman in 1930, to be a self-sustainable community. Perhaps the most brilliant aspect of this place, and it's eco-buildings nestled harmoniously with the natural landscape, is that people of all backgrounds, including the "so-called able and disabled," are given an opportunity to thrive there, together.
They make what they need within the village at six workshops including a candle maker, potter, weaver, and an herbal workshop that makes all their soaps, and shampoos. Take a gander at this incredible village, through the lens of director Claire Marie Vogel, it's immense wood chimes, and it's people amid their organic greenhouses, cafes, and craft...
