The summit explores the impact that digital technology has on children. The Summit was founded in 1995 in order to help steer the future of children’s programming in a rapidly-changing world. The event now involves creatives, technology innovators, policymakers, executives and thought leaders from around the world.
A survey published last year revealed children own their first mobile phone aged seven and will start to browse the internet as young as five years old. Over three days, the summit will look at the impact that digital technology will have on children and the future of the media.

Princess Sofia looks good in anything — even a very traditional Swedish outfit.
For son Prince Gabriel’s christening on Friday, Sofia wore a traditional Swedish folk costume complete with an embroidered head cap, striped apron and pilgrim-esque buckled shoes.
The event, which comes almost exactly three months after the little royal‘s August 31 birth, took place at the Drottningholm Royal Palace Chapel in Stockholm.
The 32-year-old mom of two’s choice of the classically Swedish outfit was a fitting one for the occasion: She wore the red and white Folkdräkt — Swedish for folk costume — of Gabriel’s own Duchy, Dalarna.

So its been over a fortnight since Chris and myself got back from Cinci and although we shared our experiences on episode #90 of the 365 podcast, I also wanted to do a cheeky little write up for the website…
First off we have said it about a hundred times but we can’t thank Matt and Andrew enough for having us over to the Expo and looking after us leading up to the event. Also to the History of Bad Ideas lads who made us feel so at home, as if we have known them for about 20 years instead of the actual 2 and a bit. Meeting them face to face was honestly something i thought would never happen. Special shout out to Jeffrey Nau for being our chauffeur.

Every week, IndieWire asks a select handful of TV critics two questions and publishes the results on Tuesday. (The answer to the second, “What is the best show currently on TV?” can be found at the end of this post.)
This week’s question: What’s the best documentary series you’ve seen on TV? Opening this up to past series, current ones, and those that you may have seen screeners for that are coming up soon.
Liz Shannon Miller (@lizlet), IndieWire
While we debate whether or not it technically counts as a TV show (certainly that Oscar it won would suggest otherwise), “O.J.: Made in America” was without question a seminal work, and one which owed a lot to its episodic structure while proving to be an addictive binge. Documentaries aren’t exactly my favorite genre, but “Made in America” was as gripping as any scripted series — and we have definitive proof of this,...

The immediate backlash President Trump faced on Tuesday only intensified overnight after he doubled down on his assertion that “both sides” were to blame for deadly violence at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.
“There are two sides to a story,” Trump insisted on Tuesday, echoing the widely denounced comments he made Saturday, as the violence was unfolding in Virginia.
There were “a lot of bad people in the other group too,” he added in reference to the anti-racist protesters demonstrating against the rally, one of whom, 32-year-old Heather Heyer, was killed when a driver rammed his car into a group of the counter-protesters.

The announcements continue to roll out for DC Comics during several of their panels here at San Diego Comic-Con. During their Dark Nights: Metal and Dark Matter panel they announced another new ongoing series coming soon featuring Duke Thomas called Batman: The Signal and it will be written by DC Talent Workshop alum Tony Patrick.
Duke Thomas had made his debut in DC Comics New 52 Batman #21 during an arc called Zero Year where he assisted Batman. Then during the arc called Endgame, the Joker kidnapped Duke's family and used them to try and recreate Bruce Wayne's parents' murder right in front of him. Batman managed to save Duke, but Duke's parents unfortunately were lost to the Joker's gas. Later he became part of the group of Robins during the time that Bruce Wayne was gone. To snag a Tony nomination for his first major Broadway performance (his debut was in the ensemble of 2006's The Threepenny Opera), Lucas Steele has made his way from small-town Pennsylvania all the way to the far reaches of outer space. When Steele’s character Anatole makes his dramatic entrance in Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812, he does so from behind a wall of light and fog. “Like Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” Steele tells Et over the phone from backstage at the Imperial Theatre, where he’s between a suit fitting and a haircut, his coif dyed preternaturally blonde for the role.
“Otherworldly” is how the actor describes Anatole’s look, one Steele has adopted for the Broadway run of the musical he’s been with for five years, since its humble beginnings off-Broadway. Hardly anyone would disagree with that description, least of all Natasha, the naive ingénue whom Anatole seduces over the course...

So far in this column, the default setting for TV horror has been the supernatural; usually ghosts (vengeful division), and a cult or two (whether it be Satan or crops). However, I would be remiss if I didn’t tend to any unusual domestic activities on a more human scale. This brings us to The Babysitter (1980), Peter Medak’s chilling tale of live-in help with some serious boundary issues. She doesn’t do windows, but she will do away with you and your family.
Originally airing on Friday, November 28th, 1980 as part of the ABC Friday Night Movie, The Babysitter as well as NBC’s Friday Night at the Movies would get trounced by CBS’ top rated shows The Dukes of Hazzard and Dallas, but those were number two and one in the land, so nobody was breaking through that block, not even the nanny from Hell.

What would happen if you crossed Demon Seed, Burnt Offerings, and The Legacy? You’d end up with a pretty confusing six hour horror movie I’d imagine, so scratch that. But what would happen if you took those same elements, made it a TV movie, and threw in The Hardy Boys’ Parker Stevenson for good measure? Well, then you’d be watching This House Possessed (1981), a supremely goofy, sublimely entertaining movie of the week that’s low on scares but high on smiles.

Riz Ahmed, “The Night Of”
The British actor had a small role in “Nightcrawler” on the big screen, but he makes a huge splash on HBO’s anthology drama as Nasir “Naz” Khan, the young man whose night out with a captivating woman goes awry when he discovers her stabbed and he’s accused of her murder. Ahmed is hypnotic in his stillness and silences, but one look at his expressive eyes, and it’s clear that Naz is taking everything in as he learns to navigate the world of prison politics and legal strategy. One can’t help to root for him because he’s clearly innocent… isn’t he? Therein lies Ahmed’s genius, his ability to play both sides so that the viewer oscillates between sympathy and dread that we have gotten it wrong. We can’t wait to see what he does in the Star Wars universe for “Rogue One.

Lee Marvin rose through the ranks of movie stardom as a character actor, delivering mostly villainous supporting turns in many films before finally graduating to leading roles. Regardless of which side of the law he was on however, he projected a tough-as-nails intensity and a two-fisted integrity which elevated even the slightest material. Comic Book Reviews: DC Comics Round Up Week 08-10-2016
Scott Snyder is back on Batman in an "all –star" way! (see what I did there?) as he teams up with two fantastic artist in Veteran John Romita Jr. and upcoming superstar Declan Shalvey. How does it hold up to his previous Batman New 52 run? Well read on to see! Also we get the return of the deadliest man in the world -- Deathstroke -- which was penned by the super talented Christopher Priest.
Action Comics #961
Story: Dan Jurgens Art: Stephen Segovia, Art Thibert
Review: Typically I don’t like it when a series keeps changing artist issue to issue, but honestly each illustrator that’s jumped on to Action Comics with Dan Jurgens has been top notch! I’m a huge fan of Tyler Kirkham and Patrick Bircher, and equally a huge fan of Stephen Segovia! And, to be fair,...

From the very first and second issue of Tom King’s Batman I have not for once believed that Gotham and Gotham Girl were going to stay on as the heroes they claimed to be, for me I felt that there had to be a twist in there somewhere. Maybe their power source was going to manipulate them somehow, or maybe they were even just playing Batman the whole time in a bigger scheme. Leave it to Tom King to use a not very well known villain to bring out the worst in Gotham and Gotham Girl.
We begin this issue at the same place we left off just some time after. At this time Batman is walking through a mess of dead soldiers and a very scared Gotham Girl who is crying in a corner. Then we find Gotham somewhere else in the city re-creating a scene from an issue of All-Star Superman.

Warning: This post contains spoilers from Outlander‘s Season 2 finale (and slight ones for Season 3).
Sing me a song of a lass that is gonna do it all over again.
Outlander‘s season finale on Saturday ended on a hopeful note: After learning that Jamie actually didn’t die on the field at Culloden like she’d feared, Claire knew that she had to go back through the stones to reunite with the love of her life. (If you missed the episode, rest assured: She didn’t immediately jump into the circle and disappear. These things take planning, after all.

Outlander‘s Season 2 finale is bearing down on us like (270-year-old Spoiler Alert!) the British at Culloden. And if the approach of “Dragonfly in Amber” causes you a wee bit of angst — because there’s just too much good TV and you’ve slipped behind and where’s a time-twisting circle of stones when you really need one?! — dinna fash. You’ve got a week until the finale airs, and we’ve got you covered like Jamie’s plaid on a blustery Highlands morn.

Happy Birthday to one of We Are Movie Geeks favorite stars. Clint Eastwood was born on this day in 1930, making him 86 years old. The actor and two-time Oscar winning director hasn’t let his age slow him down a bit. Sully, his new movie as a director, opens in September.
We posted a list in 2011 of his ten best directorial efforts Here
Clint Eastwood has appeared in 68 films in his six (!) decades as an actor, and here, according to We Are Movie Geeks, are his ten best:
Honorable Mention: Honkytonk Man
By the 1980s, Clint Eastwood was one of Hollywood’s most bankable stars. With his own production company, directorial skills, and economic clout, Eastwood was able to make smaller, more personal films. A perfect example is the underrated Honkytonk Man, which also happens to be one of Eastwood’s finest performances.

Actor Tony Burton, who is perhaps best known for his role as Duke in the Rocky series has passed away, TheWrap is reporting. The actor was 78 years old.
Apart from the character of Paulie, Duke was one of those characters who managed to find his way into each of the original six Rocky films, first as Apollo Creed's trainer, and then as Rocky's.
Check out one of my favorite scenes for the character from 2005's Rocky Balboa.
There has been no comment on what Burton passed away from, but regardless, Hollywood has lost a great talent. May he rest in peace.
Rest in Peace, Tony https://t.co/l9pzR65eCc

Tony Burton, one of only a handful of actors to appear in the 1st 6 installments of the 'Rocky' franchise, has died. Burton played Duke, Apollo Creed's trainer, and also trained Rocky in the 4th movie. Prior to acting Burton was himself a professional light heavyweight boxer and football player. Burton was apparently ill and unable to see 'Creed.' The actor also starred in "The Shining" and "Stir Crazy." 'Rocky' co-star...

2016 is five weeks old, so the new model is rolling off the assembly line. You might think I’m referring to an automobile company like Ford or Lincoln. Well, we are dealing with a brand name, one associated with popular novels instead of cars. Stephen King is still king of the horror/suspense novels, John Grisham has the legal thrillers, and Nicholas Sparks is best known for the swoony, sweeping romance paperbacks that fill the spinner racks at airport gift shops and often protrude from the tops of canvas beach bags. His best sellers quickly grabbed the attention of the movie studios, and almost a dozen have been translated to the big screen (easy to see why since they don’t require costly CGI action set pieces or big name superstars since Sparks is the name that draws ’em in). Back to the assembly line reference, there’s been a...

Fast National ratings for Monday, April 6, 2015. A competitive showdown between high-powered and star-studded No.1 seeds Duke and Wisconsin helped the 2015 Ncaa Championship Game draw its best overnight numbers in 18 years, getting a huge bump from last year's game and leading CBS to Monday domination. Keep in mind, as always, that these are time period numbers for a game that started a bit after 9 p.m. Et and 6 p.m. Pt, rather than ratings for the game itself. While "The Voice" and "Dancing with the Stars" mostly held their own against CBS' basketball, the enhanced competition took a bite out of a few scripted shows, sending "The Following" to below The Mulaney Line with a 0.9 key demo rating and also dropping the drama below 3 million viewers. Basketball also sent The CW's "The Originals" and "Jane the Virgin" to low ratings. Let's get to the numbers... Among adults 18-49, CBS averaged a 5.6 rating for Monday primetime,...

It's time for a new type of Batman - Boy Wonder. At least, that's the premise from the team of writer Lee Bermejo and artists Rob Haynes and Khary Randolph. Their intriguing, We Are Robin series will not feature Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown or Damian Wayne. Instead, the lead of the series will be Duke Thomas, a young African-American teenager who made his comic book debut in Scott Snyder and Greg Capullo's Batman: Zero Year. Duke is a key figure in the "Robin Movement" a group of Gotham teens who make it their mission to protect and serve their city. Bermejo told USA Today that 'We Are Robin' is a "chance to expand the Robin character past teenage white kids who all look the same." Bermejo has stated that the series will also explore just why Batman would ever allow teenagers into his dangerous world of crime-fighting.

The venture will operate in partnership with Shawn “Jay Z” Carter’s Roc Nation.

Two years ago, on the eve of his eagerly awaited Broadway revival of Death of a Salesman, I sat down with Mike Nichols to look back on his remarkable career. During those two-plus hours together at the Mark Hotel in Manhattan, the legendary director, then 80, reminisced about a life of highs and lows that began as a bright-eyed young boy who fled Nazi Germany for America. "I remember everything about getting on the boat in Germany in 1939," Nichols said. "I was 7, my brother was 3, and my father was already in New York setting up his practice as a doctor. German Jews couldn't leave the country,...

Screen legend James Garner died of natural causes at his home in Los Angeles on Saturday. He was 86 years old. Garner’s most recent work was voicing Shazam in the 2010 short animated film Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam; however, his extensive résumé dates back to 1956.
Garner’s most notable film roles include The Great Escape (1963), The Americanization of Emily (1964), Grand Prix (1966), the music-packed Victor Victoria (1982), and Murphy’s Romance (1985), for which he received an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor. He is perhaps best known for the television series Maverick and The Rockford Files, the latter of which won him an Emmy for his performance in 1977. Garner also played wise-cracking grandpa Jim Elgan on ABC’s 8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter from 2002 to 2005.

The Wokingham is another fiercely competitive handicap sprint that will see 28 runners line-up.
Currently heading the betting is the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Duke Of Firenze, (6/1) a horse that flew home like a very good horse in the Dash at Epsom on Derby day having endured a highly troubled passage through the race, and he rightfully deserves his position at the market’s summit at present.
He’ll carry a five pound penalty for that win though and he had disappointed slightly on his previous start so although he looks to have the class to maybe go further than handicapping in time at a relatively short price he is worth opposing.
Rex Imperator (10/1) was progressive at three for Roger Charlton but having sort of lost his way a little he is now in the care of William Haggas. He looked back to more like his best last time out travelling well...

Release Date: February 12, 2013
Platform(s): PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
The Alien movie franchise has inspired many video games over the years, but nothing to really write home about. In spite of that however, the thought of an Alien game still titillates the hopes of many simply based on the deep love for the movie franchise. Enter Aliens: Colonial Marines, announced in 2008 with Gearbox Software at the helm. Gearbox, then known as a company who primarily ported console games to the Windows platform, gained great praise in 2009 for their new original game titled Borderlands. With Gearbox’s recent success, the hype train left the station, and it ended up hitting max speed when Colonial Marines made its appearance at E3 2011. The trailer shown for the game looked fantastic: it was incredibly atmospheric, graphically stunning, and felt like a believable part of the Alien universe.

From the Commodore 64 to the modern day, check out 35 of videogaming's best ever soundtracks (and listen to them here...)
Games are often praised for their amazing visuals, deep, complex gameplay and well-written narrative, but music is also a big part of the media. Just as it forms an essential part of any movie's atmosphere, games need the right soundtrack in order to fully immerse the player into the game world. A rousing audio track can stir the emotions, properly relay the heroic nature of a protagonist, or instil fear when needed.
Games soundtracks are, arguably, much more important than other media, as the player is the star, in full control of the action.
