New images from Kristin Scott Thomas’ North Star (formally My Mother’s Wedding), have dropped. The film will have its premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival and is the directorial debut for Thomas. She also co-wrote the screenplay with John Micklethwait.
The cast includes Academy award nominee Scarlett Johansson, BAFTA award nominee Sienna Miller, and Cannes Best Actress winner Emily Beecham, who play the sisters. Academy award nominee and BAFTA award-winner Scott Thomas plays Diana Frost, their mother.

Agatha Christie, master of deduction, was wrong only once. When her play “The Mousetrap” opened in London in 1952, she reckoned it would last eight months. 70 years later, the unkillable production lives on — even Covid only clipped it for 14 months — and yet, the actual plot of the longest-running show in theater history makes most people draw a blank. This is due to two clauses in Christie’s contract: First, every night, the actors order the audience to keep the story secret, and second, every movie producer who wants to turn the play into a film is told they must wait until the end of its run, which at this point may be never.
Yet, debut director Tom George (of the BBC sitcom “This Country”) and screenwriter Mark Chappell have cleverly cracked the code. “See How They Run,” a snappy comedy that struts in with an eyebrow coyly arched, stages its own...

The first look image from My Mother’s Wedding, the directorial debut from Kristin Scott Thomas, has been released. The film stars Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, and Emily Beecham.
Principle photography on the film — which Scott Thomas co-wrote with John Micklethwait — has been completed. The film follows the story of three sisters who return to their childhood home for the third wedding of their twice-widowed mother, Diana. The three daughters now lead very different lives: Georgina, a palliative nurse; Victoria, a Hollywood star; and Katherine, a captain in the Royal Navy. Over the weekend, the family gathers to celebrate a new marriage, but mother and daughters alike are forced to revisit the past and confront the future, with help from a colorful group of unexpected wedding guests.
The cast includes Academy award nominee Scarlett Johansson, BAFTA award nominee Sienna Miller, and Cannes Best Actress winner Emily Beecham, who play the sisters. Academy award nominee and BAFTA award-winner Scott Thomas plays Diana Frost, their mother.
This marks the third time Scott Thomas and Johansson have played mother and daughter since 1998’s The Horse Whisperer.
“I have wanted to direct for a long time and it was thrilling to create this fictional family using my own childhood memories as a springboard,” said Kristin Scott Thomas. “Directing and acting with such talented actresses and reuniting with Scarlett Johansson has been exhilarating.”
The cast is filled out by BAFTA award nominee, Freida Pinto, Sindhu Vee, Joshua McGuire, Mark Stanley, Thibault de Montalembert and Samson Kayo.
Additional credits include director of photography Yves Belanger, BAFTA award-winning Production Designer Andrew McAlpine, Casting Director Lucy Bevan, Editor Gary Dollner, Costume Designer Sinead Kidao, and Academy award nominated Hair and Make-Up Designer Daniel Phillips.
CAA Media Finance, which arranged financing for the film, represents domestic rights.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge didn’t have a writer’s room on “Fleabag,” just a trusted inner circle of collaborators she shared script pages with and relied on for feedback. “Phoebe is the ultimate writer, of course,” said “Fleabag” director Harry Bradbeer. “But, she always describes Gary as being another writer on it.” Gary is Gary Dollner, the series editor, and the “writer” distinction goes beyond the filmmaking cliche of how all stories get rewritten in the editing room. Waller-Bridge is constantly rewriting, shaping the material with the cast and Bradbeer, fine-tuning right up to and throughout post, and there are depths and layers to her writing that need the speed of the camera to capture and the mastery of Dollner to fully unlock. It’s more than honing pacing and comedic timing, it’s the way Dollner is able to allow Waller-Bridge’s accumulation of backstory and characterization to collide with...

HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and Amazon Prime Video’s “Fleabag” may be dead and gone, but they are most certainly not forgotten — at least as far as the American Cinema Editors are concerned. The organization announced the Eddie Award winners for TV on Friday night, at a ceremony held at the International Ballroom in the Beverly Hilton, hosted by star of “The Good Place” D’Arcy Carden.
Tim Porter’s work on the epic 82-minute “Game of Thrones” episode “The Long Night” earned him the prize for Best Edited Drama Series For Non-Commercial Television, unsurprising given Porter’s win for the work at the Emmy Awards in September.
The same goes for Gary Dollner for his work on the Season 2 premiere of “Fleabag.” The editor’s work is just the latest accolade garnered by Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s exquisite comedy. That makes two consecutive Eddie wins for Dollner, who won Best...

“Parasite” and “Jojo Rabbit” have won the top feature-film awards at the American Cinema Editors’ 70th Annual Ace Eddie Awards, which were handed out on Friday night in Beverly Hills.
Both winners are nominated for the film-editing Oscar, along with “Ford v Ferrari,” “The Irishman” and “Joker.” Although those three films are more typical editing winners, “Parasite” beat them all in the Best Edited Feature Film (Drama) category, while “Jojo Rabbit” topped “Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood” for Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy).
The win for “Parasite” was only the second Ace Eddie win in history for a non-English film. In 2007, “Babel” tied with “The Departed” for the award.

“Fleabag” fans may want to brace themselves for bad news, as creator and star Phoebe Waller-Bridge revealed that the second season of her Emmy-nominated series was indeed its last. “I think the show came to a natural end,” she told an audience of SAG members at this week’s panel discussion held at the Landmark Theater in Los Angeles. “I think it’s time to go to the next chapter.” Her costar, Sian Clifford, was also on-hand at the event, which was moderated by Scott Feinberg of “The Hollywood Reporter.” Listen to the full 26 minute Q&a above.

When it comes to assembling a season premiere episode, “there’s always extra added stress because there’s lots of things you need to set up … You’ve got to get the series off to a flying start,” explains editor Gary Dollner, who earned an Emmy nomination this year for doing just that. He’s up for Best Picture Editing (Single-Camera Comedy Series) for the season two premiere of Amazon’s “Fleabag,” which was even more complex because most of the action is set around one dinner table. Last night saw an under the radar precursor give out its prizes, which in turn may have shifted one of the Oscar categories. Yes, Friday evening saw the American Cinema Editors give out their annual Ace Eddie awards. This yearly event usually can clue us in to what the frontrunners for Best Film Editing at the Academy Awards are. That may well be the case again here, though if that’s true, the Academy and its voters are going to be making an usual choice. They already did in terms of their nominees in the category though, so I suppose this is just par for the course… In a bit of a surprise, the award for Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic) went to John Ottman for his work on Bohemian Rhapsody. “Bohemian Rhapsody,” which has been on a roll since the Golden Globes, was the surprise dramatic editing winner for John Ottman at the 69th Ace Eddie Awards Friday at the Beverly Hilton.
“The Favourite” (Yorgos Mavropsaridis), “Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse” (Robert Fisher Jr.), and “Free Solo” (Bob Eisenhardt) took home comedy, animation, and documentary feature honors.
Ace is usually a great Oscar bellwether for editing (24 out of the last 28 years ), so Ottman now becomes the favorite for his deft balancing of the Freddie Mercury story (Best Actor frontrunner Rami Malek) with the Queen story under difficult circumstances when director Bryan Singer was fired and replaced by Dexter Fletcher. Ottman beat “Roma” director/editor Alfonso Cuarón and co-editor Adam Gough, Barry Alexander Brown (“BlacKkKlansman”), Tom Cross (“First Man”), and Jay Cassidy (“A Star Is Born”).

“Bohemian Rhapsody” and “The Favourite” have been named the best-edited feature films of 2018 at the American Cinema Editors’ Ace Eddie Awards, which took place on Friday night at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.
“Bohemian Rhapsody” won in the Best Edited Feature Film (Dramatic) category, while “The Favourite” topped the Best Edited Feature Film (Comedy) category.
Since the Ace Eddie for feature film was split into separate drama and comedy or musical categories 19 years ago, the winner in the drama category has gone on to win the Academy Award for film editing 13 times, and the Best Picture Oscar seven times. The winner in the comedy or musical category has only won the Oscar in those categories once, when “Chicago” did it in 2003.

Two films about Brits of very different eras took the marquee trophies at the Ace Eddie Awards tonight as Bohemian Rhapsody and The Favourite took home the respective marquee prizes for Best Edited Feature Dramatic and Comedy.
“I was expecting the worst, I was not prepared for this at all,” Rhapsodyd editor John Ottman said from the stage. He called the film a “labor of love in trying circumstances but joked: “No one [was] miscast, thank God, so you don’t have to polish that turd for a year.”
In accepting his stauette for The Favourite, editor Yorgos Mavropsaridis told the crowd of 1,000-plus he was impressed to get the award because he is from such a “small country like Greece.”

The American Cinema Editors is honoring its own tonight with the 69th annual Ace Eddie Awards in Los Angeles, and Deadline is live blogging it all. We’ll post the winners in all 11 categories as they’re announced and pass along quotes from their speeches as well as describing the atmosphere.
Tom Kenny, who has voiced SpongeBob SquarePants for the past 20 years, is hosting the shindig from the International Ballroom at the Beverly Hilton.
Recognizing outstanding editing in film, TV and documentaries, the Eddies have a strong track record of predicting the Best Editing winner at the Academy Awards. Twenty-one of the past 28 Ace winners for best edited dramatic film and 10 of the past 14 have gone on to score the Oscar, including Lee Smith for Dunkirk last year.
In fact, the Eddies are a pretty good barometer for the Best Picture Oscar as well, predicting 17 of the past 28 winners of the Academy’s biggest prize.
