New York City is set to honor Wu-Tang Clan in a big way for the 30th anniversary of their seminal debut, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). Not only has Mayor Eric Adams declared November 9th as Wu-Tang Day, but the Empire State Building will be lit up in the group’s signature black and yellow colors.
Released on November 9th, 1993, 36 Chambers was an instant classic as the group of nine rappers — RZA, Gza, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killa, Inspectah Deck, U-God, and Masta Killa — came together to spit hardcore rhymes over kung fu movie samples and hard-hitting snares on songs like “Protect Ya Neck” and “C.R.E.A.M.”
Earlier this year, RZA wrapped up the final season of his Hulu series, Wu-Tang: American Saga, documenting the rise of Wu-Tang Clan, which he discussed in an interview with Consequence. The group’s mastermind is currently celebrating the...

Always one to balk in the face of convention, RZA this fall will turn the orchestral concept of “chamber music” — small ensembles playing ornate works — into “chambers music”: a symphony orchestra interpreting Wu-Tang Clan’s blockbuster 1993 debut Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) live onstage. The performances will take place at New York City’s Gramercy Theatre on Nov. 7, 8, and 9 — the last date of which marks the album’s 30th anniversary. The gigs are billed with a mouthful of a title: “36 Chambers of Shaolin and a Ballet Through Mud.” On Instagram,...

There was a cipher going on outside the Hip-Hop 50 Live show at Yankee Stadium. One woman took the mic, intently closing her eyes while focusing on her next bar. As I walked away, she rhymed an improvisational derivative of recuperate, before spitting “that’s not even a word, I just be sayin’ shit.” The line set an apropos tone for the day. Hip-hop was bore out of rule-shirking and boundless imagination — and it made its way to “the house that Ruth built” to celebrate its 50th anniversary.

“Wu Tang: An American Saga,” created and written by the RZA and Alex Tse, depicts the early days of the Wu-Tang Clan in 1990s New York. Hulu renewed the scripted series for a second season in January.
But the end of its 10-episode first season had many fans wondering, “Whither U-God?,” a member of the rap collective since its inception (real name Lamont Hawkins), who had yet to make an appearance. Fans can wonder no more; RZA confirmed to Variety exclusively that U-God will be depicted in the show’s sophomore season.
“Yes, he’s signed on for Season 2. He always was going to be part of it,” said RZA, adding that U-God has been consulting on the show.
In 2018, U-God published “Raw: My Journey into the Wu-Tang,” a memoir on his career with the group, at one point detailing how fractured the rap collective had become.

DJ Shadow unveiled a different kind of pop-up video in the new lyric video for “Our Pathetic Age,” the title-track from his most recent album.
The song is a mid-tempo disco ballad that features a characteristically dramatic vocal performance from Future Islands’ Samuel T. Herring. DJ Shadow unveiled a dense and multi-faceted new song, “Rosie,” set to appear on his forthcoming album, Our Pathetic Age, out November 15th via Mass Appeal.

Wu-Tang Clan ain’t nuthing ta f— with, but both Hulu and Showtime are messing with their story in separate biographical projects this year. Hulu’s “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” is the scripted version to Showtime’s documentary, which is already out, so exactly how accurate to the rap group’s life story will the still-upcoming one be?
That was the first question Friday at the show’s Television Critics Association press tour panel.
“We like to call it a historical fiction,” co-creator, writer and executive producer Alex Tse told reporters. “So, there are things in it that actually happened, there are versions of events, some moving around the timeline — but spiritually it’s very truthful and accurate.”

Based on one of the most influential and consequential groups in hip-hop history, Hulu’s “Wu-Tang: An American Saga” is inspired by “The Wu-Tang Manual,” The RZA’s first written introduction to the philosophy and history of hip-hop’s original dynasty; the “Tao of Wu,” the second philosophical book, and the true story of formation of the Wu-Tang Clan.
Set in early 1990s New York City, at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic, the show tracks the Clan’s formation, a vision of Bobby Diggs aka The RZA, who works to bring together a dozen young, black men that are torn between careers in music and lives of crime, but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.

Sacha Jenkins’ documentary lets the Wu-Tang Clan speak for themselves, as it should, considering all the surviving members are eager participants. Starting with the simple assertion that the Staten Island-born hip-hop group was named after the best — the best “sword style,” as RZA puts it — and became the best rap brotherhood there ever was, “Wu-Tang Clan: Of Mics and Men” chronicles every meaningful beat of the group’s ongoing career. And they do it as they’ve done just about everything: together.
RZA, ever the frontman, introduces each member over the course of a zig-zagging 20-minute opening. There’s Ghostface Killah, “the most dangerous villain”; Method Man, who always had the best hooks; Raekwon, the “eloquent” chef of the streets; U-God, who RZA notes “always had an aggressive violence” to him; Inspectah Deck, who “saw everything”; the 2007 addition and “slang master” Cappadonna; the man who “through his realness” became Masta Killa; Gza,...

The story of one of the greatest rap groups is coming to television. Hulu has given a straight-to-series order to Wu-Tang: An American Saga, a 10-episode drama from Wu-Tang Clan front man The RZA, writer Alex Tse (Superfly) and Imagine Television.
Created and written by The RZA and Tse, the series is based on the Wu-Tang Clan, one of the most influential groups in hip-hop history, and will explore and expand the band’s world.
Set in early ’90s New York at the height of the crack cocaine epidemic, the show tracks the Clan’s formation, a vision of Bobby Diggs aka The RZA, who strives to unite a dozen young, black men that are torn between music and crime but eventually rise to become the unlikeliest of American success stories.
Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Francie Calfo will executive produce with Tse and Wu-Tang Clan members The RZA and Method Man.

Predictably, the eight-minute song has its highs and lows. For example, Ghostface rapping “We wear robes that you can’t even pronounce-iate / We eat foods where you can’t even pronounce you ate” is fun, amazing, please more of that. RZA spewing nonsense like, “Cake in the oven,...

Sony Pictures is in early development of a biopic about the late rapper Ol’ Dirty Bastard with his cousin and Wu-Tang leader RZA attached to produce.
Sony had no comment on the project, which does not have a director or actors attached. RZA has an extensive resume in Hollywood as an actor in “Californication” and “American Gangster” and director of “The Man with the Iron Fists” and “Cut Throat City,” starring Wesley Snipes and T.I.
Ol’ Dirty Bastard was born as Russell Tyrone Jones in 1968. He took the stage name Ol’ Dirty Bastard, also known as O.D.B., from the 1980 martial arts film “Ol’ Dirty and the Bastard” and helped found the rap collective Wu-Tang Clan in Staten Island with his cousins RZA and Gza along with Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God and Masta Killa.

The Wu-Tang Killer Bees are swarming on the Pharma Bro — sort of — in a dope new track posted this week to Soundcloud. On Friday, the Wu-Tang Clan dropped a new single, “Lessons Learn’d,” from the group’s upcoming album “The Saga Continues.” Featuring Wu-Tang heavyweight Inspectah Deck and frequent Wu-Tang guest rapper Redman, the song includes the line “my price hikin’ like the pills Martin Shkreli sell.” The line refers to the now-imprisoned pharmaceutical investor who became derisively referred to as “Pharma Bro” after his company acquired the antiparasitic drug Daraprim, essential in the treatment of AIDS-related opportunistic illnesses,...

Since 2015 is shaping up to be a year full of Wu-Tang Clan solo joints (Ghostface Killah has already released Sour Soul, while Method Man, Gza, and Inspectah Deck will come out with theirs later in the year), can you think of a better time for Raekwon to release his first album in five years? Titled Fly International Luxurious Art (F.I.L.A. for short), the mafioso rap progenitor does his thing alongside such guest stars as Snoop Dogg, Busta Rhymes, 2 Chainz, A$AP Rocky, and, yes, Ghostface Killah. As his latest album drops today (and with the 20th anniversary of his landmark debut Only Built 4 Cuban Linx … coming later this year), we asked the 45-year-old Staten Island–bred hip-hop veteran about the best tracks he’s done so far in his career. “Eye for a Eye (Your Beef Is Mines)” by Mobb Deep feat. In Wu-Tang Clan’s classic anthem “C.R.E.A.M. (Cash Rules Everything Around Me),” Inspectah Deck described Staten Island as a war zone overrun with “stickup kids / corrupt cops / and crack rocks and stray shots / all on the block that stays hot.” About two decades later, in 2012, the block in Tompkinsville, Staten Island, where Gary Nieves Jr. decided to build a recording studio, was still pretty warm. Young men stood outside the studio slipping baggies into the hands of glassy-eyed customers; fights were constantly breaking out among the homeless people who hung out in the park across the street. Still, the block might have been even hotter if not for the presence of an unofficial neighborhood peacemaker who kept an eye on the strip. Soon after Nieves opened the studio, a singer showed up to a recording session saying some asshole had been drunkenly harassing her outside. Nieves...

Two-thirds of the Wu-Tang Clan crashed The Late Show With David Letterman on Tuesday night, performing their emphatic new track, "Ruckus in B Minor." RZA, Method Man, Masta Killa, Inspectah Deck, U-God and Cappadonna represented the New York City crew, though Gza, Raekwon and Ghostface Killah were only onstage in spirit.

Wu-Tang Clan have been talking about it for a while, and now it looks like a reality: the legendary rap group's 20th anniversary album, "A Better Tomorrow," finally has a release date, and right in the nick of time. Warner Bros. Records wild drop the set on Dec. 2 this year... so at least now it won't be out on their 21st anniversary. RZA, Gza, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, and Cappadonna will all be present and accounted for on the set. In a very corporate-y statement, Wu-Tang had this to say in a release: "Wu-Tang Clan is excited to join the Warner family of esteemed artists. After 20 years in the business with different label outlets, we are delighted to be amongst a team of industry professionals who understand our unique artistry and will help spread it to the masses unadulterated. With the obvious exception of dear departed Ol Dirty Bastard, the entire Wu-Tang Clan reunited on “The Daily Show” last night to celebrate their 20th anniversary and because nothing brings old band members back together like a new album to promote. All nine surviving members, including RZA, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, Inspectah Deck, Gza, and longtime hold-out Raekwon, performed “Ron O’Neal” from the November release, “A Better Tomorrow,” as well as Wu-Tang chestnut, “Triumph.” It’s worth watching the video just for the act’s intro and to meet a new surprise member. Raekwon, who told Rolling Stone in April that he wouldn’t be part of the new project because of business differences (as opposed to the usual creative differences), explained his change of heart—kind of— to Jon Stewart by comparing himself to an athlete: “I consider this a sport," Raekwon said. There’s a good chance the long-overdue and final album from Wu-Tang Clan will see the light of day this year. The legendary rap collective just dropped “Keep Watch,” the first single off its new album “A Better Tomorrow.” Listen below. The soulful song pairs Gza, Method Man, Cappadonna and Inspectah Deck’s spitfire verses with a chorus from Brooklyn-based singer Nathaniel. Longtime Wu-Tang producer DJ Mathematics provides a classic 90s beat. Last November, RZA said the new album was about six weeks away from completion and that “everybody did their verses except Raekwon.” This week, Raekwon tweeted “Keep dreaming,” which could be a reference to the new song and his lack of participation. With or without him, "A Better Tomorrow” is now available for pre-order — and though no release date has been announced — its arrival seems imminent.

The Wu-Tang Clan producer and rapper has written Destiny Bends as a tribute to Paul Walker, who was killed in a car crash last weekend
• Fast & Furious 7 to go ahead despite death of star Paul Walker
The RZA, producer and rapper with hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan, has written a track to commemorate Paul Walker, the Hollywood actor who was killed in a car crash on Saturday.
Destiny Bends features the RZA (real name Robert Diggs) beginning "I want to dedicate this song to my friend Paul Walker", with soul artist Will Wells singing the rest of the ballad, co-written by the pair and Diggs's two sons. Diggs starred with Walker in Brick Mansions, an action remake of Luc Besson's District 13 that is set for release in 2014, and the song recalls their bonding on set. "Thanks for the time and the smiles you shared with me", run one passage of the lyrics.

Chicago – With music festivals continuing to explode in Chicago, the 2013 North Coast Music Festival (Ncmf) felt like it learned some lessons from master fests like Lollapalooza but needs to keep paying attention.
When I attended Ncfm’s first night this year (Friday, Aug. 30), I first noticed the alcohol lines and how no one was in them. That’s because this crowd was primarily under 21, so it’d make sense that most of its booked acts performed Edm (electronic dance music).
Even Friday headliner Passion Pit only played an Edm set. Their appearance at all was in question because their gear was trashed by the rain. Ncmf evacuated that night due to dangerous weather and resumed after a couple hours. Friday also featured The Disco Biscuits and Mac Miller.

Ever seen Nightbreed by Clive Barker? Probably not, but as a hymn to monsters it’s worth a watch. He could have added: if you go to a Wu Tang Clan concert it’s highly probable that not all of them will bother turning up.

Twelve Reasons to Die is the tenth studio album from founding Wu Tang Clan member Ghostface Killah. It is a concept album based on a comic book of the same name, it is based around Ghostface Killah’s alter ego, Tony Starks as he reads the comic and writes songs to it. Wu-Block, "Wu-Block" (E1)
Wu-Tang Clan and D-Block are two of the most respected groups within the hip-hop realm.
Now, some of the members from the clans have joined forces to produce an album under the name Wu-Block, spearheaded by rappers Ghostface Killah and Sheek Louch. Their collaborative effort results in a solid piece of work on the 16-track album, which also features Jadakiss, Method Man, Styles P, Raekwon and Inspectah Deck.
The self-titled album has a soulful vibe meshed with hardcore, metaphoric rhymes. That's certainly evident on the album's first track, "Crack Spot Stories," featuring Raekwon and Jadakiss, and "Guns for Life," with Styles P.
The album hits its peak on "Drivin' Round," featuring Erykah Badu, Masta Killa and Gza. It's a smooth track with each rapper offering a thoughtfully harsh perspective, detailing the state of his or her poverty-stricken neighborhood.
Other enjoyable tracks include "Been Robbed," "All in Together" and "Stella,...

Anyone who spent their teen years driving around in their mother’s hand-me-down car with the windows rolled down and the Wu Tang Clan blaring on the stereo knows that the RZA, the Gza, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Inspectah Deck, the Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, U-God, and the Masta Killa have a deep, abiding love of kung-fu movies. And, in the years since their musical heyday, RZA has taken this love further by composing the score for modern martial arts movies like Ghost Dog and Kill Bill, by trying his hand at being an actor, and even by becoming a director with his upcoming martial arts epic The Man with the Iron Fists. RZA doesn’t plan on stopping there either, apparently his experience directing a movie was so positive that he’s already lined up two more projects. Heat Vision is reporting that the musician turned movie maker has signed on to direct the long-gestating, John Milius...
