She’s the oft-authoritarian, second generation dance teacher who a handful of Pittsburgh mothers and millions of happily scandalized viewers love and loathe — and sometimes both at once — on Lifetime’s reality smash Dance Moms. But this summer Abby Lee Miller decamped to Los Angeles to join Pussycat Dolls founder Robin Antin and star choreographer Richard Jackson at the judging table of Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition, the new Lifetime reality contest that she executive produces with her pal, Dance Moms co-creator John Corella. “We had the idea of a competition show way before Dance Moms was ever created,” Miller explains. “This [...]...

Dance instructor Abby Lee Miller may seem abrasive, relentless and occasionally inappropriate (hello, fan dance!) to viewers of her Lifetime series "Dance Moms," but here's a surprise: She's actually human.
Now in its second season, the show features Miller, her students and their titular mothers navigating the sometimes choppy waters of competitive dance under Miller's strict -- and sometimes overly frank -- tutelage. But as Miller often reminds her dancers, she produces winners, having taught an estimated 3,000 to 4,000 students. Miller's mother, Maryen Lorrian Miller, a dance instructor herself, introduced her daughter to dance, inspiring her to start the Abby Lee Dance Company at just 14 years old.
We gave Miller the Zap2it Celeb Slam Book treatment to get a feel for what makes this sought-after dance teacher tick and were pleasantly surprised to get a look at her softer side -- one not often seen on "Dance Moms."

On the heels of Dance Moms opening its second season with a series high 2.5 million viewers, Lifetime has greenlighted a spinoff series, Dance Moms: Miami. The six-episode series will go behind-the-scenes at Miami-based Stars Dance Studio, focusing on its owners Victor Smalley and Angel, their young students and their mothers. “Dance Moms quickly became a stand-out hit for Lifetime last year that we knew would be perfect to build out and franchise into other series,” said Lifetime president Nancy Dubuc. Dance Moms: Miami will be produced by Dance Moms producer Collins Avenue and executive produced by Jeff Collins, Bryan Stinson and John R. Corella. The original Dance Moms, which stars outspoken dance instructor Abby Lee Miller, is Lifetime’s youngest-skewing series with a median age of 37. While it started on the scripted side when CBS spun off its forensic hit CSI into new series set in different locations...

Abby Lee Miller is just as eager to see the second-season premiere of "Dance Moms" as the rest of us. Although she's the star of Lifetime's runaway reality hit about a tough-love dance instructor and the meddling moms that get in her way, she doesn't see the show ahead of time.
"I see [the episodes] when you see them," Miller told MTV News. "People are asking me questions about future episodes, and I'm just like, 'I don't remember what happened. Sorry!' "
But once the titular dance moms are brought up in conversation, Miller has no problem recalling her ongoing drama with the cast. (Buckle up, readers. She's got a lot to say about everyone!)
