The month of October is an exciting time of year for kids—and also those of us who still consider ourselves “kids at heart”—and with that in mind, I wanted to put together a collection of fun and festive cocktails that you can serve up at your Halloween gatherings, or just mix up anytime you want to get into the “spirit” of the season over the next few weeks.
Halloween Blood Orange Martini
When Blood Oranges season begins, it’s a big moment in our house, as we’re huge fans of the crisp tartness of this fruit (especially when paired with cranberries), particularly in the fall. With that in mind, I thought these Halloween Blood Orange Martinis (via Culinary Ginger) would be a great drink to serve this month, and while the recipe doesn’t call for it, I feel like adding a few cranberries to this martini...

Can you tease how Amelia will fit in on Grey’s Anatomy next season? — Carla
How she’ll fit into Grey Sloan will all depend on whether or not Derek takes the D.C. job, which causes some “frustrating complications,” executive producer Shonda Rhimes tells me. But Amelia...

Emmy-nominated actress Carmen Zapata has died of heart problems, colleagues say. She was 86. Zapata, who started a foundation to promote Hispanic writers because jobs were so scarce, died Sunday at her Van Nuys-area home, said Luis Vela, marketing manager for the Bilingual Foundation of the Arts in Los Angeles. Zapata started her career in 1945 in the Broadway musical Oklahoma and went on to perform in Bells Are Ringing, Guys and Dolls and many plays. "She was an inspiration for me," Vela said. "She taught me that art is the key to resolving differences in the community." He said Zapata was...

“We are surrounded by monsters!” bellows the deep-voiced heavy metal singer in the end credit music for “Penumbra,” the new Spanish-language thriller opening this week. Given the subject matter, he may be drawing too broad a picture, given that so much of this singleminded scarefest relies on perspective, itself crooked in some ways.
“Penumbra” begins with our hostile introduction to the beguiling Margarita Sanchez (Cristina Brondo). Fast-talking, attitudinal and judgmental to the limit, Margarita wears an ice-cream power skirt with authority, and a girlish ponytail with impetuous confidence. Not to put a fine point on it, but she’s a total bitch. Brondo’s considerable talent and whipsmart delivery suggests it’s a miracle we don’t root for Margarita to die.
We follow Margarita, somewhat hesitantly, as she attempts to sell a ratty apartment to someone she assumes is an interested buyer. Margarita comes from money, and she essentially...

Last week, Bethenny went on a quite a ride. Julie, the 'Coordinator of Chaos,' decided she's going to be moving to Pittsburg to be closer to her boyfriend -- in three weeks. She revealed to B that she was terrified to leave the job (because of what B might say, or do), but surprisingly the conversation was positive! Hoppy, on the other hand, could not hold back his emotions as his jaw dropped at the words of Julie's resignation. But just because we didn't get to see B dive into a state of panic, I'm pretty sure that once the cameras stopped rolling sh-t hit the fan. Instead of mourning, though, B invited all of her employees to Mexico to reward Julie for all the slave labor hard work she's put in -- hooray for an awesome executive decision!
While at Drybar getting her signature SkinnyGirl ponytail look, B couldn't sit still.

Last week, Bethenny Frankel took her managerial duties to a whole new (though not so surprising) level: She insisted her food blogger, Nick, partake in some eyebrow threading, and showed concern disgust when she saw that Julie was essentially living out of a bag stored under her desk. Of course, Bethenny's less neurotic side did make an appearance. After all, she had a fairly normal lunch date with pal Hoda Kotb (minus the wazoo talk) and enjoyed time playing with Bryn at the kid's table at a Hamptons dinner party. As always, B's eccentricities never fail to entertain, one way or another, and this week was no exception.
"Can't Get Enough of You" Bethenny
Trying to get in her driver's good graces by complimenting his outfit ... until she calls out his "ink" and "ice," which he probably doesn't like. But all is forgotten when they start to bond over both being "hustlers.

Bethenny Frankel is back with more "Bethenny Ever After," just the way we like her: Bipolar with a touch of friendly sarcasm and a whole lot of fire. But before we can dissect her rapid-fire one-liners and relationship with fairly new hubby Jason Hoppy, let us quickly sum up last season, shall we?
B threw on a pair of dazzling ice skates and a nylon onesie for "Skating with the Stars," Skinnygirl Cocktails blew up faster than Ramona Singer can down a glass of her own signature Pinot Grigio and, of course, there were several meltdowns that made us all feel better about being slightly more sane. (Like B's 40th birthday party that took an ugly turn in the bathroom.)
Yada yada ... B felt "trapped" until the fairy tale ending, which consisted of her very own blinding red and white Skinnygirl Rv (with matching outfits to boot), devoted fans around the world,...
