Exclusive: For at least the last three years, Latino Hollywood has been abuzz about a Chalino Sanchez biopic that has been in the works though nothing solid emerged — until now.
The new indie film Chalino will tell the story of Rosalino Sánchez Félix, better known as Chalino and “El Rey del Corrido,” an antihero who achieved superstardom and attained legendary status for his contributions to the popularity of the Regional music subgenre Narcocorridos.
For the lead role, David Castañeda was the standout among thousands of Latinos who auditioned for the role, sources tell Deadline. He has been circling the role for months with talks currently heating up, we hear. However, no deal has been signed. Production is said to be targeting the start of production for later this year.

August isn't especially famous for its great movies. As months go, the eighth one on the calendar has often been a bit of a wasteland for Hollywood, as blockbusters peter off, kids have a lot less free time and money, and studio executives need to find somewhere to dump their proverbial dead bodies.
If you want a good example, you can pretty much throw a dart at any year after "Jaws" popularized the concept of summer blockbuster season. For example, let's take a look at 1993. 30 years ago, August was a month for dreck comedies like "Son of the Pink Panther," family film misfires like "Father Hood" and "Surf Ninjas," and the weird-ass "Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday."
But then again, there are exceptions to every rule. There were also a few excellent motion pictures in August 1993. The increasingly timeless classic "The Fugitive" came out that month, along with...

Last July, we heard that production had wrapped on Hunt Club, a thriller starring Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers), Mena Suvari (American Beauty), Mickey Rourke (The Wrestler), Maya Stojan (Newness), Will Peltz (13 Minutes), and Jessica Belkin (The Orville). Now The Hollywood Reporter has broken the news that Hunt Club has secured a distribution deal with Uncork’d Entertainment – and along with that news comes the unveiling of a trailer, which you can watch in the embed above.
Directed by Elizabeth Blake-Thomas (The League of Legend Keepers: Shadows) from a script by David Lipper and John F. Saunders, Hunt Club puts its own twist on Richard Connell’s 1924 short story The Most Dangerous Game by telling the following story: A group of male hunters routinely lure women to their island with the chance to win 100K in a hunt, only to find that they are the hunted. But this time, the...

One thing Star Trek: Lower Decks does exceedingly well is present parallel but separate plotlines that combine to drive home a core theme unambiguously. Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 Episode 2 is a perfect example of this clever and effective narrative construction.
Of course, Boimler in various scream-worthy contexts and Mariner trying to roll back her act of rebellion masks the dual adventure as all hilarious hijinks, but it's pretty remarkable how tight a script this is.
And Lower Decks Dungeons and Dragons ... er, Bat'leths and BiHnuchs Night is just delightful and amusingly nostalgic of the short-lived VHS recorded host board games that were good for exactly one play-through.
It's only been one adventure since Mariner learned Ransom holds her fate in his well-manicured hands now that her parents are finally resigned to the long-coming conclusion that they would never be able to discipline her appropriately.

Details in this article are based only on the "Predator" movies and none of the franchise's noncanonical expanded lore.
In the long and storied annals of geek discourse, there is but one question, and that is "Who would win in a fight?" This utterly frivolous question has long been the primary method to activate the pop culture centers of one's brain, allowing amateur pundits, theorists, and storytellers to pit James Bond against Indiana Jones in some bizarre grudge match to the death. Would a Terminator best RoboCop? Could Batman defeat Darth Vader? If they were all in the same room, which of the "Doctor Who" Doctors would be left standing? Could the Enterprise-d take out a Star Destroyer? Would Cathy murder Ziggy? In such conversations, the reasons for fighting are irrelevant. A fistfight, it seems, is to break out whenever pop culture characters meet.

The publication of Richard Connell's short story "The Most Dangerous Game" in January 1924 sparked a wave of urban legends that persist to this day. The legend goes that the ultra-wealthy -- bored with financial conquest, and having exhausted all ordinary forms of entertainment -- are now using their bottomless wealth and said wealth's subsequent insulation from moral and legal consequence to indulge in the darkest impulses of humankind. It's easy for those who are not ultra-wealthy to imagine being kidnapped -- or hired -- for a rich maniac's hunting excursion. Or being enlisted in a twisted game of Would You Rather?...

A young Iraqi refugee attempts to cross the dangerous border between Turkey and Bulgaria in “Europa,” a gripping drama that takes viewers as close as they would ever want to come to the real-life experiences of those willing to risk everything in the quest for safety and security. Using the conventions of a survivalist thriller to tell , Iraqi-Italian filmmaker Haider Rashid packs enormous punch into the lean running time. Following its debut in Cannes Directors’ Fortnight, “Europa” received limited release in Italy in September and is Iraq’s official submission in the Oscar international feature category.
Rashid uses almost no dialogue. Everything willing audiences need to know is laid out in opening text information stating that migrants attempting to enter Europe are routinely abused and intimidated by law enforcement officials and gangs of nationalist civilians calling themselves “Migrant Hunters.”

On Most Dangerous Game, Christoph Waltz embarked on his first American project made for the small screen, earning his first Emmy nomination for the series, which had initially sparked some skepticism on his part.
Created by Scott Elder, Josh Harmon and Nick Santora, based on a classic short story by Richard Connell, the action-thriller centers on Dodge (Liam Hemsworth), a Detroit everyman up to his eyeballs in debt, who is looking to secure the financial future of his wife and unborn child, before he succumbs to a terminal illness. After meeting a mysterious businessman named Miles (played by Waltz), Dodge finds the opportunity to just that—by agreeing to participate in a 24-hour game, in which he’ll be hunted for sport.
The enigmatic puppet master who orchestrates Dodge’s game, Miles is the latest memorable villain Waltz has taken on in his illustrious career, following roles in such films as Inglorious Basterds and Spectre.

While the platform to target people with different political views has drastically changed since The Most Dangerous Game was released almost a century ago, the basic human condition has remained the same. The Hunt, which was inspired by Richard Connell's classic short story, and is one of the year's most controversial horror films, is now in theaters nationwide.
Director Craig Zobel's horror thriller satirizes the current hostile political climate in the U.S. In The Hunt, “Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don't know they've been chosen… for a very specific purpose… The Hunt.

Arriving in theaters nationwide this Friday, March 13th, is the highly anticipated—and equally controversial—horror thriller, The Hunt. Co-written and executive produced by Nick Cuse, and loosely inspired by Richard Connell’s classic 1924 short story, “The Most Dangerous Game,” in The Hunt: "...a bunch of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted, Crystal (Betty Gilpin), knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman (Hilary Swank) at the center of it all."
Daily Dead recently had the opportunity to speak with Cuse, and he discussed how he worked with his co-writer, Damon Lindelof, to infuse the polarizing elements of the internet conspiracy...

Just last week, I coincidentally chose to rewatch Zodiac – David Fincher's thriller from 2007. The film about the unidentified serial killer, based on the book by Robert Graysmith, is about the search for the legendary murderer. Throughout the film, there is often a mention of The Most Dangerous Game – a 1924 short story written by Richard Connell. The infamous "Zodiac Killer" was supposedly inspired by it. The story's original plot is about a big-game hunter who is hunted [sic!] by a Russian aristocrat. It has been remade into many other film and TV projects over the years. Now The Most Dangerous Game gets another contemporary update – The Hunt, which addresses a modern society that thrives on dividing and misinforming people. Inspired by the classic short story, The Hunt is full of provocative language, violence, gore, and madness. Directed by Craig Zobel, the plot follows the group of "deplorables" who wake up in the middle of the field.

Initially scheduled to be released at the tail end of summer 2019, Blumhouse’s controversial new thriller The Hunt was then abruptly shelved by Universal, a cancellation which came in the wake of the Dayton and El Paso mass shooting. Considering the film’s subject – a group of wealthy liberals set out to hunt a group of right leaning rednecks for sport – it was only a matter of time before the big Cheeto in chief got involved in this whole saga. Trump referred to the film in several tweets calling it “racist” without knowing what it was really about, which let’s face it, was a surprise to nobody.
Directed by Craig Zobel and co-written by Lost and HBO Watchmen writer Damon Lindelof and Nick Cuse, The Hunt is based on the 1924 short story “The Most Dangerous Game” by Richard Connell and stars Betty Gilpin, Hilary Swank and Ike Barinholtz.

America’s sharp political divide is an oft-explored topic in cinema, and a tale as old as time across any medium. However, with our country’s unceasing mass shooting epidemic fanning the flames of political outrage, The Hunt found itself in a predicament last fall. Based on marketing footage alone, Craig Zobel’s satirical thriller was the target of right-wing media, including Twitter’s most gratuitously active account, and was indefinitely delayed by Universal mere weeks before its September release. The “controversial” thriller has now re-emerged and, surprisingly, it’s easy to imagine both sides of the increasingly divided political spectrum will finally come together in a rare moment of unity, concurring just how lazily written, shoddily constructed, and downright pointless the film is.
Loosely based on Richard Connell’s 1924 short story “The Most Dangerous Game”–itself the foundation for numerous other films, books, television episodes, videogames, radio plays, etc.

As someone who is pretty much on board whenever we get a new spin on Richard Connell’s iconic short story, "The Most Dangerous Game," I was pretty primed when The Hunt was announced for release last fall. Of course, there was a ton of controversy surrounding the film, so it was delayed, and now we finally get to see what all the hubbub was about with the film’s arrival into theaters this weekend. And truth be told, while it might seem like The Hunt is set to skewer those with a certain set of beliefs, or deliver a cinematic takedown of one political party over the other, that really isn’t the case at all.
As it turns out, The Hunt actually ends up being a pretty thought-provoking examination of the current state of the political climate in the United States, with its tongue planted firmly in its cheek,...

There has always been something innately political about Richard Connell’s oft-filmed 1924 short story The Most Dangerous Game, about people hunting down other humans for sport, but never has politics played such an intrinsic and motivating thematic role in the yarn as it does in The Hunt.
This exceedingly violent, conspiratorially charged and guiltily engaging action melodrama ultimately pits woman against woman in an almost farcically over-the-top death match, and what it sets out to say about our currently polarized society will be swallowed by some and spit out by others. Blumhouse's controversial political satire The Hunt released this week after being shelved a few months back. The film from Craig Zoebel (Z for Zachariah) and writer Damon Lindelof (Prometheus) follows a a group of rich, "Liberal elites" who hunt down "Deplorables" for fun.
Word on the street is, the film does a fine job at skewering all sides of the aisle, which we always expected it would. With films like Compliance, Zoebel has proven himself to be a master cultural observer and smart enough to see the macro problems facing modern political discourse.

Days after 32 people were killed in mass shootings in Ohio and Texas last August, banners for “The Hunt” were dismantled on the Universal lot as conservative media and President Donald Trump took aim at the film. It was bad timing for the satiric thriller, centered around a group of liberal elites who hunt conservatives for sport, which was set to be released the following month. It appeared the studio had pulled the movie.
But now, months later and a comfortable distance away from those tragedies, Universal is leaning into the controversy: The studio announced Tuesday “The Hunt” will be get a wide release on March 13 and unveiled a trailer and poster referring to the hoopla: “the most talked about movie of the year is one that no one’s actually seen.”
The most talked about movie of the year is one nobody’s seen yet. #TheHuntMovie opens in theaters Friday the 13th of March.

The Most Dangerous Game is the original man-hunting-man film that's influenced everything that came afterward.
On a sleepy island in a desolate swath of the Pacific, the comforts of modernity remain strangely cold. Four people, three men and one lonely woman, are sharing cocktails by a grand piano. Yet even in this candlelit reverie, there is something amiss outside—a howl. Does that noise emanate from what the host of the evening, dear Count Zaroff, alludes to as “The Most Dangerous Game” known to man? No, the count insists, it is merely the baying of his hounds. Little can the three guests know, however, that the hounds’ cries trumpet each’s potential doom, and that this noise will still be ringing in our collective ears 87 years after the premiere of The Most Dangerous Game.
Despite what some shortsighted, historically ignorant politicians and Fox News personalities might say,...

The decision by Universal to remove Blumhouse Prods.’ “The Hunt” from its planned September 27 release had the earmarks for a knee-jerk reaction to the controversy provoked by Fox Cable News and Donald Trump. However, sources tell IndieWire that although the announcement came after the strategically executed uproar, the choice to cancel the date had already been made.
By the morning of August 5 — just after the El Paso and Dayton massacres, and four days before the film’s official cancellation — banners for “The Hunt” were dismantled on the Universal lot in Los Angeles. This is different than pulling TV spots; in terms of studio protocol, it is almost always a sign of a film will be dropped from release.
The complications of scrapping a release date involves both internal and external niceties as well as financial issues. Like most studios, Universal isn’t imperious about its creative partners, and needed a period for consultation.

When Richard Connell wrote the short story “The Most Dangerous Game” (first published in 1924) the idea of men driven to hunt other humans was the stuff of fantasies. After a surge of mass shootings in the United States and, specifically, extremely violent and fatal massacres in Texas and Ohio, a modern reimagining of the […]

Universal Pictures has canceled the release of director Craig Zobel’s upcoming Blumhouse thriller “The Hunt.” The writing was on the walls when President Donald Trump alluded to the film in one of his latest tweetstorms, in which he fired off at “liberal Hollywood.”

On Aug. 20, 1993, Hard Target premiered in U.S. theaters. The film — based loosely on Richard Connell's 1924 short story The Most Dangerous Game and set in New Orleans — stars Jean-Claude Van Damme as Chance Boudreaux, a merchant seaman hired by a woman searching for her father, a homeless veteran who, it turns out, has been literally hunted down and killed. The villain, Emil Fouchon — played by a perpetually glistening, characteristically intense Lance Henriksen — makes his living arranging recreational manhunts for wealthy sportsmen in world cities of note. Dwayne Johnson released a new photo of himself riding on a motorcycle while killing "evil shit" with a flame thrower in the new Jumanji. The photo came with an interesting note that offers a hint that the story for the movie was at least inspired by Richard Connell's 1924 short story, "The Most Dangerous Game." The actor said:
"Check out this bad ass custom made flame thrower that's secured with metal grips under my forearm giving me more leverage to drive my motorcycle with one arm - and kill evil shit with my other. Apparently it's also a good night to burn the hell outta my arm. Again. #OnLocation #HawaiianJungles #TheMostDangeeousGameOfAll #Jumanji Dope shot taken by "the eye" himself.. @masistills"
Why would he use the #TheMostDangeeousGameOfAll if it didn't mean anything? For those of you that aren't familiar with the story, it's about humans hunting and killing humans for sport.
