- Worked under the pseudonym of Don Arr.
- Sketch artist for Disney Studios from 1937 until 1941 and drawing for such animated features as Pinocchio (1940) and Dumbo (1941).
- Briefly worked as an animator at Warner Bros as part of Robert Clampett's animation unit in the early 1940s. Here he wrote scripts for "Looney Tunes" cartoon shorts.
- Became a writer and illustrator at Western Publishing, where he worked on numerous Dell and Gold Key comic books.
