Countdown number-wrangler Carol Vorderman will tell you that she appeared on the very first celebrity version of a British TV show in December 1998, but Carol Vorderman has been getting high on her own supply. 18 months before she gave her Cher in a 1998 episode of Celebrity Stars in Their Eyes, Wendy Richard and Todd Carty from EastEnders graced episode one of Celebrity Ready Steady Cook, and they’d appreciate Vorders giving it a bit less of all that, thank you.
The point being: celebrity versions of TV shows are mostly dross. Not being able to choose from the top drawer of fame, they generally feature the packing peanuts of the TV world. These shows use what might be described as a homeopathic definition of ‘celebrity’, in that this glass of water has a better chance of remembering who any of the cast are than I do.

Fearsome monsters, grasping hands, and a suggestive tree. Here are 10 fantasy movie moments that scarred us as kids...
This article comes from Den of Geek UK.
Sooner or later, you're going to see a scary movie. Whether you sneak down and watch a horror film on late night television, watch a Nightmare on Elm Street sequel at a friend's house or watch clips of slasher movies on YouTube, horror movies are always out there, waiting in the wings for the young and curious. But long before most of us graduate to the stage in our lives where we start seeking out R-rated movies of gore and terror, we reliably encounter scary moments in what might initially seem to be harmless family adventure films.
The 1980s was an unusually fertile period for dark fantasies where the seeming lightness of their subject matter--dragons, unicorns and other mythical beasts--was joined by odd jabs of darkness,...

Sean Bean watches a dead pig float down the Thames in new supernatural ITV drama, The Frankenstein Chronicles...
This review contains spoilers.
1.1 A World Without God
Frankenstein’s monster has never been quick on his feet, so, fittingly missing Halloween by a week, The Frankenstein Chronicles slowly shuffles its way onto ITV Encore. With parts harvested from history, fiction, and film, this Frankie follows in the footsteps of Sky’s Penny Dreadful and ITV’s recent Jekyll And Hyde – so far, so 'TV Execs are still mid-ransack over at the Waterstones’* Gothic fiction aisles' – but what has this show got in abundance that those others were lacking?

Former soap stars are making up to four times the amount of current cast-members for personal appearances. Todd Carty - who played Mark Fowler in 'EastEnders' from 1990 to 2003 - is charging up to £10,000 while the BBC One soap's longest serving star Adam Woodyatt (Ian Beale) only makes between £2,500 and £5,000 per appearance, The Sun newspaper reports. Other former stars of the east London-based soap including Tamzin Outhwaite and Ross Kemp - who played Melanie Owen and Grant Mitchell respectively - would cost in the region of £15,000. Zoe Lucker - who previously starred in both 'EastEnders' and 'Footballers'...

Charlie Brooker led a Q&A panel for the upcoming third series of A Touch of Cloth at London's BFI South Bank last night (July 29).
Joined by stars John Hannah, Suranne Jones and director Jim O'Hanlon, we and other lucky guests got to hear about the filming of Too Cloth for Comfort, to air on Sky1 on August 9. Here are just a few things we learnt from the spoof cop show screening:
1. Detective TV drama research involves hours of DVD compilations
Brooker revealed that he and his team of writers spent many hours watching DVDs of different cop show staples, including morgue scenes and interrogations. "The fun thing about this is that we write it as a team," he said.
"We sit there and we get compilation DVDs made of moments from detective dramas. So we're not watching the full shows, but shattered moments, so like an hour of morgue scenes.

Last week, the big wigs in TV land had their annual jaunt to Cannes for Miptv. It's an event where the great and good come to discuss changing trends in television and also pitch and try and sell their latest genius TV formats around the world.
Some of the ideas might become the next Deal or No Deal, Pop Idol or Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? and become a global phenomenon. Others, probably won't.
The weirdest idea to come out of Miptv this year was Dolphins with the Stars. The title pretty much tells you all you need to know. It will be celebs, working with dolphins and then performing tricks together on live TV.
For the first time on your TV screen, we put together the most admired celebrities and the most beloved animals with the aim of offering the TV event of the year: Dolphins With the Stars.

Zaraah Abrahams has become the latest celebrity to leave Dancing on Ice All-Stars.
The actress follows in the footsteps of Todd Carty, who exited the ITV competition at the end of last Sunday's (January 19) live show.
Abrahams and partner Andy Buchanan had to battle it out in the skate-off with Kyran Bracken and Nina Ulanova to decide who remained in the show when the two couples found themselves bottom after the public vote.
Bracken performed to 'Chasing Cars' by Snow Patrol in the skate-off, while Abrahams performed to 'Don't Cry For Me Argentina' in a bid to stay in the competition.
Judges Karen Barber and Ashley Roberts voted to save Bracken, while Jason Gardiner chose Abrahams. Head judge Robin Cousins, who had the deciding vote, opted to bring back Bracken to skate again next week.
Abrahams said on hearing the result: "It's been wonderful, I'm so sorry to say goodbye to everybody.

Dancing on Ice star Jason Gardiner has hit out at fellow judge Karen Barber in yet another extension of their feud.
The duo were at loggerheads again on last night's live show, and Gardiner has now taken to his Facebook page to complain about Barber.
"Yet again Karen as head coach proves she can't be impartial as a judge and misses many of the valid points I make," said Gardiner.
"To accuse me of not knowing what I'm talking about only discredits the producers for hiring me to do my job. Let's be real... I wouldn't have got this gig or been asked back if I didn't know my s**t!"
Gardiner also defended his low score of 4.5 for Gareth Gates, saying: "Personally I don't see how Gareth will be able to catch up with his stronger competitors, because this is as good as it's going to get.

Todd Carty has been voted off 'Dancing on Ice All-Stars'. The former 'EastEnders' actor and professional partner Alexandra Schauman exited the competition last night (19.01.14) following a skate-off against Zaraah Abrahams and Andy Buchanan which saw the entire ice panel vote to send him home. Todd famously tripped and skated off the ice during his first stint on the show, in series four, and he and Alexandra poked fun at the mishap as she skated off during their Save Me Skate performance to McFly's 'Please Please'. Phillip Schofield has hinted that the final series of Dancing on Ice will contain some twists to test the nerve of the skating celebrities.
The presenter took to Twitter today (January 3) to tease the "cruel" and "brutal" surprises that await the 14 returning competitors in this weekend's launch show.

The ninth series of the reality competition features an all-star cast of six former champions - including Beth Tweddle (2013), Suzanne Shaw (2008) and Ray Quinn (2009) - as well as popular contestants such as David Seaman, Gareth Gates, Jorgie Porter and Todd Carty.
Judges Karen Barber, Ashley Roberts, Robin Cousins and Jason Gardiner are also all scheduled to return.
"We never know what he's going to say next," said Barber of working with acid-tongued Gardiner for one final series.

We're excited about Dancing on Ice returning on Sunday, but it's a little bittersweet given that this will be the final series. Still, the show is definitely going out with a bang with an All-Star cast - including six winners.
We caught up with all the stars at the show's launch this week - with the exception of Joe Pasquale, who genuinely had to rush off to panto - so read on to find out how training is going, what Jorgie really thinks of being paired with Sylvain, and whose secret weapon is... farting?
Suzanne Shaw
Original series and position: Winner in series three (2008)
Professional partner: Matt Evers
"Oh, wouldn't it be lovely to replicate my perfect score? Whether I will or not, I don't know. I've been away in Bristol for quite a while so I haven't seen anyone compete or skate, so I don't know what level I'm at.

No more reject soap stars snapping their ankles and elbows on the ice. No more Pip Schofield shouting about "The Dangers Of The Ice". No more Z-listers in unforgiving pink Lycra. Dancing on Ice has announced that it is bowing out in 2014 with a ninth and final series.
Torvill and Dean's ice dancing format has never been the most glamorous of reality shows. It's never pulled in the biggest names (Tamara Beckwith, Elen Rivas, Bobby Davro) and it's always been in the shadow of its slicker, more stylish cousin over on BBC One, Strictly.
However, across its eight years the show has created many memorable TV moments and even if some of them are for the totally wrong reasons, Digital Spy is raising a toast to the series today by remembering them.

Grange Hill. The only school kids ever seemed to be interested in. Us included…
At your school, did anyone die in the swimming pool? Did you have to contend with vicious bullies (and we’re talking about the teachers!)? Did everyone have London accents coarse enough to strip the paint off the classroom doors? Yes? Flippin’ ’eck, you must have gone to Grange Hill!
If you grew up in the 1980s but don’t have a fondness for Grange Hill, there’s probably only one explanation: you were banned from watching it. Yep, for those of us who could get away with it, this rites-of-passage drama series about the pupils of a north-London comprehensive was must-see television, but by parents and teachers it was generally despised. It all started in 1978, and continues to this day (just about), but its golden age was undoubtedly the 1980s.

Arthur's Round Table has never looked so square. Spamalot, the 2005 musical adapted by Eric Idle and John Du Prez from Monty Python and the Holy Grail, is back in the West End in what is claimed to be a new and improved version directed by Christopher Luscombe. What this means is that it is served with effortful, topical garnish: Boris Johnson, Jedward and Susan Boyle are briefly impersonated, and there are frequent nods to the Olympics. At one point, Arthur cries: "Can you get me Kenneth Branagh, 600 dancing nurses and Danny Boyle's phone number?"
Monty Python's genius is not easy to reproduce (and though Idle puts in an appearance as a foul-mouthed God, it's via a big video screen on stage), and this dangerously safe show reveals that resting on old laurels does not work. The shabby, cardboard-cut-out set and knights in tawdry red-and-yellow shifts...

As part of our Enchanted 80s week, we look back at the action family epic, Krull…
How can you remain objective about a film you enjoyed so much as a youngster? The answer, of course, is that you can't. And it's true that, when viewed in 2011, the influences of 80s fantasy film, Krull, are more apparent than ever. It borrows freely from Greek and Arthurian myths, Tolkien, and most noticeably, a certain sci-fi blockbuster directed by George Lucas.
And yet, at the same time, it's impossible for me to view Krull without a sense of genuine affection. This is made easier by the fact that, while it's showing its age in places, Krull is a well-made film, and an entire galaxy away from other cheap, quickly made knock-offs that showed up in the wake of Star Wars. This is probably thanks in large part to the experience of Peter Yates,...

Former EastEnders star Todd Carty has hinted that he enjoys theatre roles more than screen parts. The actor, best known for playing Walford's Mark Fowler for 13 years, is currently appearing as servant Patsy in a touring production of Monty Python comedy Spamalot. Speaking to the Surrey Herald about his new role, Carty explained: "I love being on tour and I love doing a show like this. I can get up anywhere in the country and it can be a rainy day but I know I'm going to get up on stage and mess about with my chums. What more could (more)...

Todd Carty wants to play a ''young cockney wide boy'' in 'Coronation Street'. The former 'EastEnders' star - who played HIV positive Mark Fowler in the show from 1985 until 2003 - would consider moving to the rival soap if the right part came up. He said: ''You never say never in this business. ''Maybe some young cockney wide boy who comes up, you've had a few of them in the past - maybe a new generation of London lad that comes in. Anyway, give them my number just in case.'' Since he left 'EastEnders', Todd worked as PC Gabriel Kent on 'The Bill', before ..

GMTV presenter Ben Shephard enjoyed an ice skating lesson this week, as he filmed for his ITV show Dancing On Ice Friday.
Led onto the ice by Torville and Dean, Ben had to rehearse for a routine with his co-star and previous Dancing On Ice contestant Coleen Nolan. He was so bad that he ended up crawling off the ice rink.
He later told The Sun:
“I managed to make Todd Carty look good!
“Luckily I escaped without serious injury apart from knocks to my pride.”

Somehow, in a bid to make the Sunday-evening-eating monster that is Dancing On Ice even more unpalatable, ITV have chosen to hire Michael Ball to replace Robin Cousins. The five-person judging team was overloaded anyway – I’d have been happy to have a four-person panel and more of Jason Gardiner’s classic spiteful comments!
Anyway, we’re covering Dancing On Ice live tonight – this post will have judge’s comments, a scoreboard and some of my own commentary on each act. Enjoy! And leave loads of comments!
Scoreboard
Judges scores for tonight’s show are as follows:
Hayley Tamaddon and Daniel Whiston – 26.0 Gary Lucy and Maria Filippov – 21.0 Daniella Westbrook and Matthew Gonzalez – 20.0 Kieron Richardson and Brianne Delcourt – 19.5 Mikey Graham and Melanie Lambert – 18.5 Danny Young and Frankie Poultney – 17.0 Sharron Davies and Pavel Aubrecht – 15.0 Emily Atack and Fred Palascak – 13.5 Hilary Jones and Alexandra Schauman – 12.0 Commentary
Torvill and Dean do a fantastic opening...

Dancing On Ice returns to our screens tonight and this time it’s the mens turn to skate!
Last week we saw Sinitta being (we thought unfairly) voted off and we can’t wait to see if it’s Dr Hilary’s turn tonight.
We’ll be here the whole way through tonight’s show, giving our opinions and views on each performance and on the judges comments. We’d love to hear what you think too so make sure to leave your comments below or drop us a line on our Twitter page, the best tweets will make it onto our liveblog post!
The testosterone-fuelled evening begins with Christopher Dean taking the male professional skaters through a manly routine. Well, as manly as one can look in a Dancing On Ice costume. Jayne Torvill spends her time being thrown from man to man, and she looks quite tiny as...
