Nearly four years have gone by since it was announced that Treehouse Pictures was developing a remake of the 1991 Christina Applegate cult classic Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead (watch it Here) that would be directed by Bille Woodruff (Beauty Shop and the Honey quadrilogy) from a screenplay by Chuck Hayward (Dear White People). All that was revealed about the project at the time was that it would be “a present-day retelling centered on a black family.” Then that’s the last we heard about it. Apparently it made its way through production while flying under the radar, though, because Film Ratings has revealed that the remake has already received its rating from the Motion Picture Association ratings board… and it’s a surprising one. While the original film was rated PG-13, the remake has earned an R rating for “teen drug use, language and some sexual references.”

More than 400 prominent female writers and showrunners sent a letter today to the heads of the major studios expressing their “grave concerns” about the companies’ “lack of specific production protocols” to protect their workers in anti-abortion states.
The letters, which state that “it is unacceptable to ask any person to choose between their human rights and their employment,” also demanded that the companies “pledge to discontinue all political donations to anti-abortion candidates and political action committees immediately.”
Deadline has obtained a copy of the letter to Netflix, which organizers say was sent to top executives at Amazon Studios, AMC Networks, Apple, Disney, Lionsgate, NBCUniversal, Netflix, Paramount Global, , and Warner Bros. Discovery.
The letters, whose signers include Ava DuVernay, Shonda Rhimes, Amy Schumer, Marta Kauffman, Callie Khouri, WGA West vice president Michele Mulroney and WGA West secretary-treasurer Betsy Thomas, said that “this situation raises basic matters of equality, health, and safety in the workplace.

Lost in Space made its big Netflix comeback count by going back to basics.
Editor's note: This story appears in our latest Den of Geek special edition magazine presented in parternship with Netflix. You can find more infomation on the issue here.
Before the Netflix reimagining premiered in April 2018, the idea that any new version of Lost in Space would be decent—much less excellent—seemed unlikely, if not outright impossible. Prior to the Netflix version, there were two reboots: one you’ve forgotten and another you’ve likely never seen—the underwhelming 1998 Lost in Space film from New Line Cinema and an unaired 2004 series directed by John Woo called The Robinsons. Like some of the Alpha Centauri colonists who failed to dodge the death-ray from a robot, both failed spectacularly. So, the challenge facing a new version of the Robinsons’ epic adventure was clear: How could...

Will “Star Trek: Discovery” win Emmys this year? It would be a major breakthrough for CBS All Access, a new streaming service that earned its first nomination in 2017 when “The Good Fight” contended for its main title theme music. And it would be a major comeback for the “Star Trek” franchise: “Discovery” is the first “Trek” series since “Enterprise” ended in 2005. But the “Trek” shows have a strong track record with the television academy. Scroll down to find out what actors and episodes were submitted by the show across all Emmy categories save music composition (those races follow different procedures and don’t release public ballots).
The original “Star Trek” series ran from 1966-1969 and didn’t win any Emmys, but it was nominated 13 times, including twice for Best Drama Series (1967-1968). “Star Trek: The Next Generation” followed two decades later and aired for seven seasons from 1987 to 1994, during which...

Now that the Discovery is back from the Mirrorverse I’m sure I’m not the only one that wanted to see the return of Lorca (Jason Isaacs). It seems if that is going to happen we’ll have to wait, as this week’s Star Trek: Discovery decides to focus on the small issue of taking on the Klingon Empire.
The Discovery is back in their own universe back to their own universe, and Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Saru (Doug Jones) find themselves face-to-face with Admiral Cornwell (Jayne Brook), Sarek (James Frain) and a boarding party demanding Lorca be turned over. With the revelation of his apparent death, the focus soon turns on taking on the Klingon Empire.
With the pace that Star Trek: Discovery has been on in the last few episodes, it almost feels strange that this week things are slowed down. In reality though, this makes...

In the first episode of Star Trek: Discovery, one thing that the Klingons made clear is the fact the Federation may say they come in peace, but many times they don’t. This week that peacefulness is put to the test on a new planet.
When U.S.S. Discovery takes a high priority mission to a planet called Pahvo they encounter a new lifeform. When the lifeform offer Saru (Doug Jones) a way to calm the unrest in his mind, it once again pits him against Michael Burnham (Sonequa Martin-Green) who fights to keep them on mission.
One thing that I’m starting to notice with Star Trek: Discovery is that there is a cycle of episodes. We have the ship based ones, ones that feature more of the Klingons, then ones that question the Prime Directive and how the crew of Discovery can manage to bend the rules around it.

Now that we are six episodes into Star Trek: Discovery it is easy to pick out the interesting and fan favourite characters. With this week’s episode of Discovery, it we start to get into moments that shape these characters for what is to come.
With Ash Tyler (Shazad Latif) now a part of the crew, people are intrigued to find out more about him. For Michael (Sonequa Martin-Green) though, her thoughts are off the ship as Sarek (James Frain) calls out for help. While she is allowed to go search for him, Captain Lorca (Jason Isaacs) is visited by Admiral Cornwell (Jayne Brook) who is worried about his tactics.
While fan favourites Michael, Tilly (Mary Wiseman), and Stamets (Anthony Rapp) get a lot of focus on Star Trek: Discovery, it seems now that Ash Tyler is going to be another to have a connection with Michael. The fact that...

1.4 The Butcher's Knife Cares Not For The Lamb's Cry
What a title this episode has. If Discovery has done nothing else, it’s brought back the spirit of the original series’ episode titles, which were essentially “how grandiose and Shakespearean can we be in fewer than 10 words”. Turns out: very.
Of course, it’s not completely without meaning. There are lots of butcher’s knives in this episode, and lots of lambs crying. Metaphorically, of course. The most Star Trek thing about this episode was Burnham’s insistence that science and compassion prevail over, like, randomly shooting stuff in the face.

CBS All Access’s newest iteration of “Star Trek” continues to spark with imagination: In “The Butcher’s Knife Cares Not for the Lamb’s Cry,” Burnham makes a big discovery, the Klingons fight both Starfleet and each other, and a character we barely met last week meets a tragic end.

Soul Windows: Burton Returns to the Biopic with Flagging Interest
Long judged as a director clearly intent on recycling the same motif, themes, and styles, generally with the same few cast members, Tim Burton throws an interesting curveball with his latest film, Big Eyes, a reenactment of the art world Keane scandal of the 1960s. Scripted by Burton’s Ed Wood (1994) scribes, the title that remains the sole point of comparison with which his latest will be compared, many will be disappointed to find a rather basic film, devoid of Burton’s customary flourish or that earlier, celebrated title’s ingenuity. And though the film’s greatest challenge will be to breathe under the weight of its creators’ own reputations, it’s a likeable recapitulation of 1950s era America and the strange mutations that occur involving those humans attempting to buck the wrongly conditioned trappings of gender based social mores.

He'll be playing a local widower named Jack Hennison who main character Olive Kitteridge, who is played by Frances McDormand.
Also in the mini-series are Richard Jenkins, Rosemarie DeWitt, John Gallagher Jr., Jesse Plemons, Zoe Kazan and Cory Michael Smith. The project will be directed by "The Kids Are All Right's" Lisa Cholodenko, and was adapted by Jane Anderson.

For a while there, seeing Bill Murray in a movie was like spotting a rare animal. Tales of his being difficult to reach and non-committal even when taking film roles were the stuff of legend, but it seems these days he just really wants to work. With roles already in three 2014 films — "Monuments Men," "The Grand Budapest Hotel" and "St. Vincent De Van Nuys" — and currently shooting Cameron Crowe's next effort, Murray has already signed up for his next gig. He'll be joining Frances McDormand, Richard Jenkins, John Gallagher Jr, Zoe Kazan, Jesse Plemons, Brady Corbet, Cory Michael Smith and the also recently added Rosemarie DeWitt in Lisa Cholodenko's HBO miniseries "Olive Kitteridge." Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book by Elizabeth Strout, and adapted by playwright Jane Anderson, the series will chronicle the dirty laundry of one, small New England town as seen through the eyes of the...

My So Called Life alumna A.J. Langer is joining Private Practice in a recurring role, TVLine has learned exclusively.
There’s just one problem: It’s anyone’s guess who she’s playing.
Her character, Erica. “will be someone from one of the Oceanside doctor’s pasts,” is all an ABC rep would say.
Perhaps Shonda Rhimes is staging an onscreen reunion between Langer and her former Eyes costar Tim Daly? It’s doubtful considering A) Pete is a widower and B) we already met a woman from his past in Season 2: Meg Porter (played by Jayne Brook).

Castle (Nathan Fillion) has to sign waivers to work with Beckett (Stana Katic) , so that no one; including "My lifeless body, can sue the city." Beckett just wants to shoot him now. That's another comment about wanting to shoot him, last episode she said she has a gun. Must be trigger happy. She has a case and he's got paperwork. Now did she seriously think she could elude him, it's like Castle's got eyes and ears everywhere. A nanny is found in the dryer and Beckett notices the bleach bottle and blood on the floor. He's already there, as Castle says she thought she'd given him the slip. Never. And refers to the Db as 'Nanny Mcdead'. Beckett is his inspiration and he doesn't know when inspiration will strike (usually at the end of the episode when he actually gets to write.) Well inspiration is a slow process and...

Benjamin Bratt is looking forward to do some 'cleaning up' tonight when the second season of "The Cleaner" premieres on A&E. From sweeping the streets from any kind of addicts to assisting high profile individuals to do a recovery, Bratt's character William Banks will face one of his toughest challenges in the season opener.
In "Hello America", an old friend Michelle Durham seeks William's help to get her high-profile national news anchor husband Davis, clean. But the news anchor is a national spokesperson for recovery, so William has to be especially discrete in his methods. And the news anchor's wife has an illness that forces William to confront his own personal problems.
Michelle is portrayed by Jayne Brook while Davis is played by Gary Cole. But they are not the sole attractions for this season. The show brings back Whoopi Goldberg as William's sponsor for three episodes and lines up other prominent actors.

The second season of "The Cleaner" is coming around the corner and we've got a hold of its first ten minutes. The A&E series starring Benjamin Bratt will go on air again on Tuesday, June 23 with the episode "Hello America".
William faces his old sponsor (guest star Whoopi Goldberg) when an old friend and fellow program member (guest star Jayne Brook) seeks William's help to get her husband (guest star Gary Cole) a high-profile national news anchor, clean.
But there are a couple of twists to the case. The news anchor is a national spokesperson for recovery, so William has to be especially discrete in his methods. And the news anchor's wife has an illness that forces William to confront his own personal problems.
"The Cleaner" is a series based on a true story about an "extreme interventionist" who, after hitting rock-bottom from his own addictions, strikes a tentative deal with God.

Benjamin Bratt is back this month as “The Cleaner,” William Boyd – an extreme interventionist brought in when family members have done everything they can do to get a loved one off drugs and/or booze. He’ll get you clean, or kill you. It’s that simple. Okay, maybe it isn’t – but it sure seems that way sometimes. Bratt’s interpretation of Boyd is a man with unflinching dedication to his craft, approaching every case with purpose – a purpose that is, perhaps, reinforced by the shrieking of his own demons from the past. It’s a drive that is intense, sometimes exruciating to watch, occasionally life altering, and always entertaining.
Here’s the lowdown on the first episode of The Cleaner season 2:

Rumor has it that a major character dies on the upcoming season of Brothers & Sisters’ which debuts this Sunday night on ABC. I’m sitting in the Burbank offices of Monica Owusu-Breen and Alison Schapker, conducting an exclusive interview with the two showrunners charged with shepherding the hit drama through its third season.
I’ve just asked Breen and Schapker if the unfortunate soul who kicks the bucket is either Kevin Walker (Matthew Rhys) or Scotty Wandell (Luke MacFarlane).
If they actually tell me, I’m hoping for their sake the answer is that neither man perishes. Because if one of them does, I picture an army of gay fans laying siege to their ABC offices, enraged over the death of one of the most beloved couples to ever grace American televisions.
The two exchange glances and then Schapker says, “Yes, I think we can...
