Prince Harry married a basic cable actress, Meghan Markle, and one royal expert thinks that he may be considering a foray onto the screen.
Acting isn’t as easy as it looks and Harry allegedly is looking into some classes to hone his craft. Last week the pair announced a new brand, American Riviera Orchard, but until something comes of it, Harry might want to keep his checkbook balanced. Living adjacent to Tinseltown he’ll have no trouble finding a thespian teacher.

Over 100 leading figures, led by members of The Elders and the Future of Life Institute, have issued an open letter calling on world leaders to take a bold new approach to address ‘catastrophic’ risks to humanity.
The letter states that ‘long-view leadership’ is needed to tackle the ongoing impact and escalating risks of the climate and nature crisis, pandemics, nuclear weapons, and ungoverned AI. It also illustrates that millions of lives and livelihoods are already impacted by these threats and world leaders’ inaction and failure to cooperate will drive humanity toward ‘greater catastrophe’.
The Elders, including Mary Robinson, Ban Ki-moon, Graça Machel, Juan Manuel Santos, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, together with the president of the Future of Life Institute, Max Tegmark, have been joined by former leaders (including Gordon Brown), Nobel Laureates, scientific experts, youth activists, business leaders (including Richard Branson), philanthropists and influential figures from across public life (including Annie Lennox...

Vladimir Putin apologist Oliver Stone is bemoaning the state of the world, and as evidence he cited the filmmaking choices of actors like Ryan Gosling and Keanu Reeves.
In a non-sequitur-filled interview with City Am, the longtime movie director and medium-time crank alleged that by agreeing to play Ken in Barbie, Gosling contributed to the “infantilization of Hollywood.”
“Ryan Gosling is wasting his time if he’s doing that shit for money. He should be doing more serious films. He shouldn’t be a part of this infantilization of Hollywood,” Stone said. The man whose film JFK to advanced conspiracy theories about the assassination of a US president then complained that because of people like Gosling, cinema today is “all fantasy, fantasy, fantasy, including all the war pictures: fantasy, fantasy.”
Stone later issued an apology for “speaking ignorantly” in his comments about Barbie in a social media statement posted on January 22nd.

Two scripts from the fourth season of Friends will be auctioned off in England after an unnamed studio employee found them in the trash at London’s now-defunct Fountain Studios. The hit NBC series filmed its two-part finale, “The One With Ross’s Wedding,” partly in London in 1998 and the scripts were apparently left behind.
Amanda Butler, who is handling the sale, said the scripts should have been destroyed. “Apparently, the cast and crew were ordered to destroy their copies so the ending wouldn’t be leaked,” she said in a press release.

San Francisco, July 16 (Ians) After the success of its first-ever commercial spaceflight, Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic has announced the second, aiming to launch it on August 10.
Galactic 02, which will be Virgin Galactic’s “seventh spaceflight and second commercial spaceflight”, will fly three private passengers, including the first Olympian and first Caribbean astronauts, to space, the company said, in a statement on Monday.
Vss Unity will carry Jon Goodwin, an 80-year-old, Olympian and early Virgin Galactic ticket holder, as well as Keisha Schahaff and Anastatia Mayers, a Caribbean mother-daughter duo who won their seats in a draw that raised funds for non-profit Space for Humanity.
The dynamic and multinational crew highlights the role the commercial space industry can play in removing barriers that once existed to becoming an astronaut, the company said.

Summer’s beginning was marked with lots of festivals, charity galas and Spider-Man’s return to blockbuster season, as stars of all sorts soaked up the sun, from Napa to Hollywood to the Caribbean Sea and beyond. Keanu Reeves returned to his old rock-star status at BottleRock Napa, strapping on his bass with Dogstar after 20+ years (and Lizzo knocked everyone out at that posh music/food/wine/brew fest); meanwhile, Kaley Cuoco’s “Based on a True Story” brought its mysterious fun to L.A.’s Pacific Design Center and Chateau Marmont and Sir Richard Branson set sail on the Summit at Sea in the Bahamas.

San Francisco, May 26 (Ians) Richard Branson’s Virgin Galactic had successfully completed its final test flight to suborbital space ahead of its commercial service in June.
Unity 25 marks the company’s fifth spaceflight and the company’s first flight in nearly two years.
“Successful boost, We Have Reached Space!” Virgin Galactic said in tweet.
The Unity 25 carried two pilots and four Virgin Galactic employees — Beth Moses, Luke Mays, Jamila Gilbert, and Christopher Huie — to the edge of space.
After reaching around 13,563 metres of altitude, the mothership dropped Unity before the spaceplane blasted its way to suborbital space, allowing passengers to experience a few moments of weightlessness.
The flight reached an altitude of 87 kilometres, the company said.
Earlier the company said that the Unity 25 will be the company’s “final assessment of the full spaceflight system and astronaut experience,” before its first commercial flight ‘Galactic 01’ scheduled in “late June”.

San Francisco, May 24 (Ians) Virgin Orbit, the bankrupt rocket company founded by British billionaire Sir Richard Branson, has shut down operations after selling its business to three aerospace companies for about $36 million in a bankruptcy auction.
Rocket Lab bid $16.1 million for the company’s headquarters in Long Beach, California. Stratolaunch was awarded its $17 million “stalking horse” bid for Virgin Orbit’s 747 jet.
Launcher, a subsidiary of Vast Space, bought the company’s facility in Mojave, California for $2.7 million, reports CNBC.
“As Virgin Orbit embarks on this path, the management and employees would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all stakeholders,” the company said in a statement.
In April, Virgin Orbit laid off nearly 85 per cent of its workforce — about 675 employees — after it failed to secure key funding.
Rocket Lab said the Virgin Orbit assets will improve its production, manufacturing, and test capabilities, especially in developing its larger Neutron rocket.

Word on the cobblestone street is that Tom Waits is writing again, according to his longtime Irish music agent Paul Charles.
The news comes by way of Charles’ new memoir — though mentioned in the Irish Examiner — in which he reflects on his time spent working with Waits, as well as Van Morrison, and Richard Branson. In particular, Charles shared the news while reminiscing on the last performance Waits did in 2008 in Dublin, in a tent venue called the Rat Cellar.
“We all hope he will tour again. After he did the three nights in the Rat Cellar, he went home,” Charles writes. “He enjoyed the tour a lot, and the idea was to start writing. He did a bit of recording, and then he basically got distracted by the movie world for a while. The news is that he’s started writing again. We’ve all got our fingers crossed for another return visit.

Peter Gabriel first learned about former U.S. President Jimmy Carter in Rolling Stone. He doesn’t remember the exact date, but a 1975 article about Georgia’s Allman Brothers Band and their support for Carter’s presidential campaign is likely what caught his eye.
“I’ve always been interested in American politics, and I was fascinated to read that the Allman Brothers had played a critical role in getting some early funding for this ‘peanut farmer with principles,’” Gabriel reminisces on a recent Zoom call from his Real World Studios in Southwest England.

Free The Children is a children’s charity organization founded in 1995 by children’s rights advocate Craig Kielburger, who was only 12-years-old at the time. The organization builds schools in developing countries. It also provides alternative income projects as well as school and health kits to people in developing rural areas. Free The Children was inspired by the death of Iqbal Masih, a twelve year old carpet factory laborer who spoke out against his working conditions and received help from the Bonded Labour Liberation Front of Pakistan. Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield took the internet by storm (as they should!) after presenting together at the Oscars ceremony this year. Tweets were exchanged and a lot of feelings were felt. And now it's been announced (via Deadline) that the pair will co-star in a new project together a romantic comedy film titled "We Live In Time."
It's a pleasant change from their recent filmography. Pugh appeared in a multitude of different genre-bending roles — Ari Aster's horror film "Midsommar," Olivia Wilde's "Don't Worry Darling," along with her superhero responsibilities in Marvel Studios' "Black Widow" and "Hawkeye." Garfield was recently seen in Lin-Manuel Miranda's "Tick, Tick... Boom!," Michael Showalter's "The Eyes of Tammy Faye," and his terrific television outing in Hulu's "Under the Banner of Heaven." The performers haven't appeared in a romantic comedy in a very long while, and this one's certainly shaping up to be an exciting project.

It turns out that a “friendly neighborhood Spider-man,” Andrew Garfield, is particularly neighborly when it comes to board games. The actor, best known for playing comic book hero Spider-Man, recently gave an interview detailing his 10 essential items, including two popular board games.
Garfield then told a funny story about surprising a stranger with an impromptu game.

Bursting onto the scene in 2010, Garfield played Tommy in Never Let Me Go and Eduardo Saverin in The Social Network. That same year, he was also cast as everyone’s favorite web-slinger in The Amazing Spider-Man, which premiered in 2012. Garfield followed up with the sequel in 2014.

London/New Delhi, Jan 10 (Ians) The UK rocket carrying satellites into space suffered an “anomaly” on Tuesday, abruptly ending the first foray into orbital launch from the UK territory.
Virgin Orbit, founded by Sir Richard Branson, said it was evaluating the information and would share more information when it could, reports the BBC.
A Virgin Orbit Boeing 747 carrying the 21 metre rocket took off from a spaceport in Cornwall, southwest England.
However, as the rocket was due to enter orbit and discharge its nine satellites, scientists found an “anomaly” that prevented the spacecraft from reaching the orbit.
The mission saw a repurposed 747 jumbo jet release the ‘LauncherOne’ rocket over the Atlantic to take nine satellites high above the Earth.
Matt Archer, the UK space agency launch programme director, said he was disappointed.
“The second stage engine had a technical anomaly and didn’t reach the required orbit,” he was quoted as saying.

Updated with statement from The Bail Project: A bail reform group, backed by celebrities including Danny Glover, John Legend and Richard Branson, has shut down its Las Vegas chapter after helping to release a man who went on to shoot and nearly kill a Las Vegas waiter.
Rashawn Gaston-Anderson, who had been arrested in November 2021 for burglary and theft, had been released by The Bail Project after it paid his 3,000 bail. Six days later, Gaston-Anderson allegedly opened fire in a Las Vegas restaurant, shooting waiter Chengyan Wang eleven times, nearly killing him. Wang is now suing The Bail Project, which denies that the closure was related to the lawsuit.
“The Bail Project closed its Vegas branch earlier this month but it had nothing to do with the litigation,” a spokesperson for the organization said in a statement to Deadline. “As an advocacy organization that is also a service provider, The...

Chris Smith, director of the new HBO docuseries, “Branson,” says Richard Branson didn’t want the opening scene, which shows him recording an after-death farewell video, included in the docuseries.
“We had that footage because we shot it, but it was never intended for us to be able to use,” Smith told TheWrap.
“Branson” is a four-part docuseries that delves into the life, achievements and career obstacles of Virgin Group co-founder Richard Branson. Each episode focuses on pivotal moments in the businessman’s life, starting with his early beginnings dropping out of high school at age 16 to and starting Student magazine to the controversy around him asking the U.K. government for a bailout loan in order to help keep his Virgin Atlantic airline business afloat while carrying a multibillion dollar net worth.
The series also highlights his challenges being dyslexic, how his often outrageous stunts boosted his business while negatively...

It took a long, long time for Richard Branson to achieve his goal of blasting off into space, but it finally occurred last year after more than a billion dollars invested through his company Virgin Galactic.
“Nothing could prepare you for the view of Earth from space,” he said upon landing. But in a new interview with Deadline, he says the experience did not imbue him that a transcendent “overview effect,” the sense of awe about our place in universe or the perspective of a planet without natural political boundaries, unlike what other astronauts have reported feeling.
“I don’t think there was like a lightning bolt moment in the space flight,” he tells Deadline. “It was extraordinary. It was everything I’d dreamt it would be… But I’ll let you know when I get the thunderbolt.”

Chris Smith’s HBO docuseries about Richard Branson doesn’t shy away from controversies involving his spaceflight company Virgin Galactic, bid for U.K. government support of Virgin Atlantic during the pandemic or the paradoxes around the airline’s eco-messaging. But for the most part, “Branson” concentrates on all that the tycoon has accomplished in his 72 years.
Shortly before Branson became the first passenger to reach space in his own spacecraft last year, the business magnate sat down with Smith to reflect on the benefits and drawbacks of being a lifelong daredevil.
“It’s important if you lead a full life to share,” says Branson, founder of the Virgin Group. “It’s important for your children, your grandchildren, and your great-grandchildren. And it’s important for other people who may want to get inspired.”
