Actor Hugh Laurie, who played Mr. Little in both Stuart Little installments, has joined the cast of 20th Century Fox's remake of The Flight of the Phoenix. The John Moore-directed action thriller, a redo of the 1965 film, revolves around a plane crash in the Mongolian desert. Laurie will play a corporate type who goes hysterical once the plane crashes. Dennis Quaid, Giovanni Ribisi, Tyrese, Miranda Otto, Tony Curran, Scott Michael Campbell and Jared Padalecki star. John Davis, Bill Aldrich and Alex Blum are producing Phoenix, with Fox's Emma Watts is overseeing at the studio for TCF division topper Hutch Parker. Laurie is repped by the Gersh Agency, the Gilbert Group and attorney Fred Toczek at the law firm Nelson Felker. His other credits include Life With Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows, Spooks, Maybe Baby and The Man in the Iron Mask.

Lord of the Rings veteran Miranda Otto is in negotiations to star opposite Dennis Quaid in the 20th Century Fox remake of The Flight of the Phoenix. Otto will play a geologist in the action thriller, which is being directed by John Moore. The original 1965 Phoenix revolved around a plane crash in a North African sandstorm and the efforts of the crew to build a plane from the wreckage. The updated version represents a reinvention of the original, with contemporary circumstances set in the Mongolian desert. John Davis, Bill Aldrich and Alex Blum are producing Phoenix, while Fox's Emma Watts is overseeing the project for division topper Hutch Parker. Otto, who most recently appeared in The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers, returns to the big screen Dec. 17 in the final installment of the Rings trilogy, The Return of the King. She also appears in the upcoming comedy Danny Deckchair. Otto is repped by UTA, Management 360 and Sydney-based Shanahan Management.

After playing the Invisible Man in 20th Century Fox's The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, Tony Curran has signed on for another Fox feature, taking a supporting role in the studio's upcoming remake of The Flight of the Phoenix. John Moore is directing the action thriller, which stars Dennis Quaid and is being produced by John Davis, Bill Aldrich and Alex Blum. The original 1965 Flight revolved around a plane crash in a North African sandstorm and the efforts of the crew to build a plane from the wreckage.
