Fill the cannons with stuffed animals and watch the fluff fly as Eli Roth’s Borderlands takes the Lionsgate stage at CinemaCon! The annual entertainment event is in full swing after yesterday’s Warner Bros. panel and reveal of Todd Phillips’s Joker: Folie à Deux trailer. With film and television fans fired up about upcoming releases, Lionsgate is ready to take them to a wasteland where kooky characters try to kill each other, and a fabled vault of riches awaits.
The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin wrote the initial screenplay for Borderlands but removed his name from the project after the script was rewritten by Roth, Juel Taylor, Tony Rettenmaier, Joe Crombie, Chris Bremner, and Sam Levinson. Zak Olkewicz wrote scenes for Miller during the reshoots. Elements from drafts Aaron Berg and Oren Uziel wrote before Mazin have reportedly made their way into the film as well. So...

Cate Blanchett will play the lead, Lilith, in the film adaptation of the Western-themed looter-shooter game, Borderlands. The trailer for the film dropped on Wednesday and fans couldn’t help but notice the similarity to James Gunn’s films. While the cast appears to be promising, there were several behind-the-scene issues with the film which fans doubt will affect the film’s quality. One particular promotion in the trailer for the producer of the film also irked the fans.

Filming wrapped on director Eli Roth‘s adaptation of the Borderlands video game series from Gearbox and 2K way back in June of 2021. A year and a half later, Deadpool director Tim Miller had to step in to handle the project’s two weeks of reshoots because Roth had the chance to finally – after sixteen years – make a feature based on the Thanksgiving faux trailer he put together for the Quentin Tarantino / Robert Rodriguez collaboration Grindhouse. The Borderlands reshoots have been completed, Thanksgiving has come and gone, and Lionsgate is now gearing up to finally release Borderlands into the world on August 9th. With just over five months to go until that date arrives, Lionsgate has unveiled a trailer for the film, and you can check that out in the embed above.

Six years passed without a new film from director Uwe Boll, a filmmaker some would describe as infamous, while others would say he’s legendary. Then last year he made Hanau (Deutschland im Winter – Part 1), about a real-life mass murderer. Now he’s back with the police drama First Shift, and while the movie isn’t expected to be released until sometime in 2024, a trailer has already arrived online. You can check it out in the embed above.
Boll wrote, directed, and produced First Shift, which is described as being a gripping police drama with the spirit of a classic road movie, taking us on a soul-stirring journey through the vibrant streets of New York City into the depths of our own reality and the innermost corners of our souls. Immersing viewers in a high-octane adventure delving into the lives of dedicated law enforcement officers.

Avengers: Endgame directors Joe and Anthony Russo have made a deal with MGM to oversee a slate of new film projects the studio is developing, and it looks like many of them will be remakes.
Through their production company Agbo, they will co-develop, co-produce, and co-finance these upcoming projects. The first project that they will tackle is a reimagining of The Thomas Crown Affair with Michael B. Jordan. According to Deadline, the Russo Bros. could actually end up directing this movie, which would be cool. Matthew Michael Carnahan has been haired to write a new draft of the script.
Agbo will also be developing a hybrid live action/animation version of The Rats of Nimh, which is based on the wonderful book series by author Robert C. O’Brien. Don Bluth made an animated film adaption of this story back 1982. This new version will be directed by James Madigan, a...

They’ve made a multi-film non-exclusive creative partnership to co-develop, co-produce and co-finance a slate of projects.
The deal can extend to projects originated by Agbo, but the driving force behind this is that they will creatively steer the refurbishment of the classic library titles. The first film projects to be produced through the partnership includes a re-imagining of The Thomas Crown Affair, which long has had Michael B. The Last Man on Earth returned from its winter hiatus with a dramatic and satisfying end to the Karl storyline.
On The Last Man on Earth Season 4 Episode 11, Tandy and Todd tell the gang what they discovered about Karl in the graveyard.
The gang refuses to believe them at first, but when Karl confesses to being a cannibal and escapes the prison once again, they decide they must kill him. Melissa also tells the group that she knows where Jasper is, which infuriates everyone.
I was happy to officially say goodbye to Karl by the end of the episode. I enjoyed Fred Armisen on the show, but his shtick was growing old quickly.
By killing him off when they did, we were allowed to enjoy his time on the show before he became too stale and annoying.

At Comic-Con this year, Legendary stunned panel attendees by revealing that it was planning a new King Kong feature, titled Skull Island. The reveal wasn’t accompanied by much information, just a tantalizing teaser, but today brings a pretty major update about the project – one which also serves as a reassurance (as if we needed it) that Legendary isn’t wasting any time with this one.
According to Deadline, Legendary wants to give the directing gig to Attack the Block director Joe Cornish, who co-wrote Edgar Wright’s version of Ant-Man before both decamped in the face of script changes. He’d be working from a script by Godzilla scribe Max Borenstein “based on the mythic origins of King Kong, where mutant giant creatures rule.”

For up-and-coming screenwriter Aaron Berg his first screenplay sale couldn't have gone any better. His script, titled "Section 6," sparked a bidding war, with Universal nabbing the rights and paying a cool $1.2 million for his thriller that "follows the World War I-era formation of British intelligence agency MI6 and its first director, Sir George Mansfield Cummings, who served as the inspiration for M in the 'James Bond' series." With a logline like that, it's no wonder that Hugh Jackman has taken a look at the material, while Justin Lin and Brett Ratner have also shown an interest as directors. No one is formally attached yet, but it's safe to say this one is going to get some major talent. [The Wrap] Angelina Jolie's "Unbroken," the true story of Louis Zamperini, a former Olympian who endured medical experiments, slave labor, and brutal beatings as a Japanese Pow during WWII, continues to cast up.

Exclusive: Media Rights Capital has just bought a spec package for a grounded action thriller that will be a directing vehicle for Joseph Kosinski. Kosinski followed his 2010 directing debut Tron: Legacy with the Tom Cruise-starrer Oblivion. Dylan Clark will produce. I’m told that it was a potential high six figure deal and that Kosinski hatched the idea. The script was written by Chris Cantwell & Chris Rogers. If you recall, while Kosinski was busy for years on Tron: Legacy, he hatched the idea for Oblivion and had it done as a graphic novel by Radical Publishing to serve as a template for the movie. Cantwell & Rodgers previously scripted Halt & Catch Fire, which has been picked up for series by AMC, and they have features with Bad Robot and Indian Paintbrush. Universal has reportedly paid $1.2 million for a spec script from first-timer Aaron Berg without a director or star attached to the project even though the likes of Justin Lin (Fast & Furious 6) and Hugh Jackman have apparently been made aware of the feature. Titled Section 6, the film is about the formation of the British intelligence agency MI6 and it not only attracted the attention of Universal, but Sony, Warner Bros. and DreamWorks were among the four studios battling for rights over the weekend. Deadline has the story and relays the script details as follows: The script tells a compelling story that isn't at all dry and dusty. The focus is Sir Mansfield Cummings, the storied Brit spymaster who was the inspiration for James Bond's boss M. In 1919, his intelligence section, called Section 1C, was going to be folded into MI5, which is similar to our FBI in that it focuses on domestic threats.

It’s not only an exceptional deal for a new writer; I’m hard pressed to come up with the last clean seven-figure deal for a script with no attachments. Four studios bid on the project: Sony, Warner Bros, DreamWorks and Universal. The deal was either seven-figures or very close to it, as some of the bids exceeded that amount, and there was talk that Fast & Furious 6‘s Justin Lin and Hugh Jackman were interested in the subject matter.
