The season 1 finale of Marvel Studios' acclaimed animated series, X-Men '97, hit Disney+ this past Wednesday, and it's fair to say the events of "Tolerance is Extinction - Part 3" left us with a lot to discuss.
If you haven't watched yet, beware of major spoilers from this point on.
In the closing moments of the drama-filled finale, the team managed to defeat Bastion and prevent Asteroid M from destroying the planet, but the heroes somehow ended up being transported through time in the process.
Xavier (Ross Marquand), Magneto (Matthew Waterson), Rogue (Lenore Zann), Nightcrawler (Adrian Hough), and Beast (George Buza) find themselves in Egypt in the year 3,000 B.C., where they encounter a younger En Sabah Nur (Adetokumboh M'Cormack). Wanda Maximoff’s assault on the Illuminati citadel left the premiere superhero team of Earth 838 dismantled and massacred. The Illuminati was survived by Baron Mordo and the missing member of the team who was expected to be seated in the empty chair (heavily rumored to be Daniel Craig’s Baldur the Brave).

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
The first nine episodes of X-Men ‘97 teased a suitably epic finale to the X-Men: The Animated Series revival, and it’s safe to say that “Tolerance Is Extinction, Pt. 3” catapulted us into the already confirmed season 2 in style. Magneto and Professor Xavier put their differences aside, Bastion was bested, and a smorgasbord of cameos squeezed in everyone from Black Panther to Daredevil.
More than just teasing a potential Spider-Man: The Animated Series reboot, X-Men ‘97’s cliffhanger ending set up what’s next for Charles Xavier’s Gifted Youngsters. The team was divided across time, with Magneto, Xavier, Rogue, Nightcrawler, and Beast trapped in the year 3000 B.C., while Jean and Cyclops are marooned in 3960 A.D. But the ending doesn’t account for all of our spandex-clad heroes, and for those questioning where a certain de-clawed Canadian is, you aren’t alone.

The X-Men '97 finale sees the team of mutants separated on different timelines: some in the past, some in the future. As the unresolved stories build up for season 2, here's how Logan's ominous warning lines up with the X-Men '97 finale.
As Bishop said, "Luckily, this ain't our first time at 'the X-Men are dead' rodeo." The finale may have sparked hope for the mutants in returning to their original time, but it also poses a darkness looming in their future.

Finale Sees the X-Men 'Yanked' Through Time
Beast failed to stop the catastrophic impact of the Asteroid M on Earth, leaving the X-Men to prepare to sacrifice themselves. Instead of meeting their demise, however, they were sent to a different timeline.

Spoilers for "X-Men '97" follow.
Rejoice, my X-Fans, for your theories have prevailed.
The "X-Men '97" season 1 finale, the three-part epic "Tolerance is Extinction," ended in shocking fashion. The big bad Bastion sent Asteroid M on a collision course with Earth, deciding to force humanity into extinction rather than evolution. Professor X, unable to not see the good in Magneto, even after his frenemy's torturous attack on Wolverine, pulls Erik back to the light with a telepathic therapy session. The X-Men, once more including Magneto, save the world. But then they vanish, pulled through time to the past, future (Cyclops and Jean), and parts unrevealed. The past X-Men, stranded in Egypt, circa 3000 BC, meet a grey-skinned mutant that fans will certainly recognize.
As is Marvel tradition, there's also post-credits scene revealing that, while the X-Men are scattered across time, an old foe is rearing his head. In the present, En Sabah Nur's future self,...

Following the shocking events of last week's episode, the X-Men '97 finale - "Tolerance Is Extinction - Part 3" - begins with a visit to the past and the moment Charles Xavier told his friend, Magnus, that he was a mutant.
We soon learn this is all in Magneto's head, with Professor X using his immense psychic abilities to force his friend-turned-foe to undo the damage he's inflicted upon the Earth. He succeeds, but Bastion is far from done and still has an army of Prime Sentinels on hand.
Just as the villain is about to kill Cable, Jean Grey returns as the Phoenix (briefly) to deal with him and leaves Mister Sinister a husk of his normal self. However, Bastion takes advantage of the distraction to take the Techno-Organic Virus...

‘X-Men ’97’ was an unexpected hit for Marvel Studios. Following a series of flops in 2023 the studio really needed something to restore at least some of the faith that the franchise could be salvaged from a series of bad stories.
In comes ‘X-Men ’97’ a revival of the old ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’ Fans were wonderfully surprised when the showrunners managed to keep faithful to the old show with new and modern twists.
Despite being fired from the studio just days before the season 1 premiere, Beau DeMayo continued comments on the show and guided fans across the episodes through some of the most devastating moments in the franchise’s history.
DeMayo frequently recommended both comics to read through to better understand the context of the episodes, as well as episodes of the original ‘X-Men: The Animated Series.’

The MCU seems to have hit a rough patch lately with its movies. But things have been more positive on the TV side, with WandaVision, Loki, and Moon Knight garnering universal acclaim. The latest win for the franchise takes the form of X-Men ’97, a continuation of the classic animated X-Men series from 1997.
The show has been praised by fans and critics for staying true to the spirit of the original series while also feeling modern and fresh. In a recent episode, X-Men ’97 pulled off an important scene that could have major repercussions, not just for its characters but the MCU as a whole. In fact, a recent interview with one of the cast members of the show hinted at how the scene could lead to a showdown between the X-Men and the Avengers.

Former X-Men '97 showrunner Beau DeMayo has taken to social media to share a "homework assignment" for fans that may want a better idea of what to expect from the middle chapter in the three-part season finale, which airs on Disney+ next Wednesday.
DeMayo posted the cover to 1993's Uncanny X-Men #304, which marked the 30th anniversary celebration of the iconic mutant heroes, and the third chapter in the "Fatal Attractions" storyline.
Spoilers for Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1 and (possibly) Part 2 follow.
Though a few significant events occur in this issue that could inform the episode, we'd say it will most likely draw influence from Magneto's arc. Towards the end of Tolerance is Extinction - Part 1, Dr. Valerie Cooper frees Magnus from Bastion's prison, and the Master of Magnetism flies to one of the northern magnetic pole to manipulate Earth's magnetic field, using his powers to wipe...

Disney’s 2017 Beauty and the Beast live-action remake is one of the most critical and commercial hits by the House of the Mouse. The Emma Watson film holds the record of being the second-highest-grossing Disney live-action remake. These characters are set to be incorporated into the MCU. In October 2020, the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ films were labeled as “Marvel Legacy films” on Disney+. Notably, Patrick Stewart reprised his role as an alternate Professor X in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ and Kelsey Grammer returned as Beast in ‘The Marvels.’ ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ will bring Deadpool and Wolverine, played by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, respectively, into the MCU continuity. A few weeks ago, X-Men '97 delivered its most devastating episode to date when the master Mold Sentinel was unleashed on Genosha and killed countless mutants.
Tragically, Gambit was among them. However, following Cable's arrival in the present day, the prevailing theory among fans has been that time travel will ultimately be used to undo Bastion's attack and likely bring the fan-favourite Cajun mutant back from the dead.
Today's episode of X-Men '97, titled "Tolerance Is Extinction - Part 1," appears to dispel that notion once and for all. We learn that Cable has travelled back in time to the attack on Genosha countless times, only to be temporally pulled away from the event before he can stop it.
To that, Beast says, "Strange, the mystics of Kamar-Taj speak of absolute points.

Airbnb is doing a new thing called “Icons” where they offer special locations or events. One of their offerings is a recreation of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning from ‘X-Men ’97.’ They are also doing one of the house from “Up” complete with crane lifting!
Let’s take a look at both offerings! X-Men ’97 House.
The home is in New York, overlooking New York City. It has been transformed into the “cartoon” by using a hand-painting technique to mimic 2-D art.
The experience includes:
“• I’ll lead you through new student orientation (don’t worry we’ll get to the fun stuff fast).
• Enter Beast’s totally gnarly lab! It’s like a science playground where you’ll be able to power-up with mutant energy elixirs.
• Take a class in the Danger Room, where some of our combat professors will teach you how to improve your fighting skills...

X-Men '97's three-part "Tolerance Is Extinction" finale kicked off today and it saw the team set out to stop Bastion's plan to destroy mutantkind.
Cable explains that, in his timeline, Bastion has created a world where the few remaining mutants are subservient to his technologically advanced humans (who have all been infected by a new strain of the techno-organic virus that led to Nathan being sent into the future as a baby).
With Rogue still comatose, the X-Men see if they can learn more about Bastion; it turns out that, after his father was infected by future technology, Bastion was conceived and mutated into a being comprised of Nimrod, the Sentinel Master Mold, and a human.

The mansion, sitting atop a hill in Westchester County, New York, could be mistaken for any number of homes in the area, save for one little, er, big, thing.
In the driveway, feet from the front door, there is the battered severed head of a giant Sentinel, one of the antagonists to the X-Men.
The house, overlooking rolling hills north of New York City, was until recently a residential home. For a few months however, Airbnb is taking it over, turning the home into a recreation of the Xavier Institute for Higher Learning, as featured specifically in the Marvel Animation series X-Men ’97.
That includes an interior that has been meticulously hand-painted so as to appear two-dimensional, as in the cartoon, with the bedrooms, Professor X’s office, Beast’s lab, and even a “danger room” available for guests to explore.

Why Did DeWanda Wise Leave Captain Marvel? Actress Breaks Silence - Main Image
Marvel found its Maria Rambeau in Lashana Lynch, but before the British actress took the role, DeWanda Wise was supposed to play Carol Denver’s best friend in the 2019 Captain Marvel. Wise was cast as Maria Rambeau in January 2018 but was forced to part ways with the project in March of the same year before the filming started that Spring.
At the time, it was revealed that her departure was due to scheduling conflicts with the production of She’s Gotta Have It Season 2.
However, some couldn’t help but notice Wise’s words when she said making a Marvel movie was her “own personal nightmare.” So, what’s the truth about her exit?

“The mutants are coming. The bell has been rung.” – Yes, that famous dialogue from Batman V Superman has been modified, but it perfectly fits with what Deadpool & Wolverine is about to bring to the theatres. The Deadpool threequel will officially introduce mutants in the MCU’s continuity, and the X-Men fans can’t be more hyped!

As soon as it was confirmed that the mutants were coming to the main timeline, fans began looking up at the possible casting choices for their favorite X-Men. And one of the most popular X-Men characters is Storm aka Ororo Munroe, who happens to be one of their strongest heroes.
Deadpool 3 will be bringing back a number of mutants from the Fox movies, and it is more than likely that Marvel will reboot the older continuity and introduce younger actors as the quintessential X-Men after that. And we have...

Marvel Studios has been taking pitch meetings with writers for the X-Men reboot since late last year, and recent reports indicate that we are very close to finding out who will pen the script for the project.
Once a scribe is in place, the studio will turn its attention to a director - but there's a good chance Kevin Feige and co. already have a list of filmmakers in mind that they feel could be the right person to bring the iconic mutant heroes back to the big screen.
In the latest edition of his newsletter, Jeff Sneider mentions Moonlight and Mufasa: The Lion King director Barry Jenkins as one filmmaker who could be on Marvel's radar to helm the movie. Sneider doesn't say Jenkins is actually in talks, but he seems to feel that if the upcoming Lion King prequel is a success, he might be a strong contender.

After altering his voice to play the king of rock and roll in "Elvis," Austin Butler made a dramatic shift by portraying the heartless Harkonnen warrior Feyd-Rautha in "Dune: Part Two." It's a choice that worked out well, as even though the star's latest performance also came with an on-screen voice that demands further examination, Butler proved he was just as adept at playing cruel and cunning as he was at transforming into iconic musical figures of the 20th century.
The nephew of Baron Vladimir Harkonnen, Feyd-Rautha was a big part of Frank Herbert's 1965 novel on which the "Dune" films are based. In the book, protagonist Paul Atreides (played by Timothée Chalamet in the modern films) returns to the capital of Arrakis and faces off against Feyd-Rautha in a final battle — one which was brought to life for the big screen by director Denis Villeneuve and his production team for "Dune: Part Two.

Halle Berry became a big name after a string of supporting roles in the 90s with the superhero film X-Men in 2000. Berry played the iconic X-Men character Storm and it is arguably her most popular role. However, she would also be remembered for playing one of the most iconic Bond girls in 2002’s Die Another Day.

Berry starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in the film, and her role as Jinx was different from others in the past as she helped move the plot instead of being reduced to a damsel in distress. However, Berry faced an embarrassing moment during an intimate scene with Brosnan in the film.

Marvel has been through a lot of ups and downs post-Endgame. After a series of bombs at the box office, things are finally looking hopeful for the comic book giant after taking a back-to-basics approach. Bringing back the beloved X-Men cartoon from the 1990s was a slick move, as it brought back a lot of fans who had lost faith after consecutive failures like The Marvels and She-Hulk.

This article contains spoilers for "X-Men '97."
I'm the precise age to have been introduced to the Marvel Universe by animation and film. Back then in the bygone 2000s, superhero movies never crossed over and the best that us wee fans could hope for was, say, the X-Men playing guest star on "Spider-Man" for an episode or two. I've now evolved into a curmudgeon who thinks superhero cinema could use more individuality and less interconnectivity, but I digress.
All this is to say that "X-Men '97" episode 7, "Bright Eyes," featured the sort of brief guest appearance that would've made 10-year-old me super-excited: Rogue meets Captain America (Josh Keaton). You might recall that Cap appeared back in the original "X-Men" cartoon; the season 5 episode, "Old Soldiers," showed him and Wolverine on a mission together in World War II. Two weeks ago, "X-Men '97" delivered quite a heartbreaking development with the death of Gambit during a shocking Sentinel attack on the peaceful mutant colony of Genosha. The Ragin' Cajun went out in a blaze of tragic glory but left Rogue and the rest of the X-Men team shattered.
This week, the episode "Bright Eyes" begins with Gambit's funeral. Nightcrawler gives a lovely eulogy with a combination of just the right amount of card-playing puns and a wonderful tribute to Gambit's character, both as a man and a superhero. Though Rogue isn't in attendance, dealing with her grief in a vengeful way across the country, Cyclops, Jean Grey, Wolverine, Beast, Jubilee, Sunspot, and more are all there to lay Gambit to rest.
Also among the crowd are a few faces that you're meant to notice, but you might not remember them if you haven't refreshed yourself on "X-Men: The Animated Series" in a while.

The big trailer drop this week finally showed some of Hugh Jackman in action as Logan in the much-anticipated superhero film of the summer, Deadpool & Wolverine. Fans marveled (pun intended) at finally seeing Jackman don the iconic yellow suit from the comics that has been put aside for every movie adaptation in favor of black leather. Eagle-eyed viewers also caught some surprising appearances of additional characters from the X-Men film universe in a quick shot from the trailer. This just adds fuel to the fire of fan speculation on who might make cameos in the fourth-wall-breaking sequel.
As Marvel Studios continues to explore multiverses and even work in some actors from past roles, such as Kelsey Grammer’s return as Beast in a post-credits scene from The Marvels, fans are curious if any of the fan favorites of established franchises are also willing to return. Deadline reports that Famke Janssen recently addressed this question.

This X-Men ’97 article contains spoilers.
As a revival of X-Men: The Animated Series from the ’90s, X-Men ’97 has really killed it with its first season. Not only does it capture the magic of the original show but it’s also successfully broken away from the original show’s limitations. For example, animators in the ’90s had to be strategic about how they portrayed violence on a kids show — Wolverine couldn’t use his claws on human or mutant enemies, so he spent a lot of his time unloading on Sentinels instead. But in 2024, we have Jubilee graphically splitting a monster’s head open with her firework powers and Gambit impaled by the Mother Mold. It probably helps that this revival of the series is as much for nostalgic adults who want a more grown-up take on these stories as it is for kids.
But it isn’t just...

Hugh Jackman broke all our hearts when he revealed that Logan (2017) was going to be his Wolverine’s swan song. But we can’t really blame him, can we? The man had been playing the character since 2000! Perhaps his desire to leave Wolverine and the rest of the X-Men behind stemmed from his time on X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Hugh Jackman in X-Men: Days of Future Past
While filming Days of Future Past, Hugh Jackman collaborated with actors like Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult, who were much younger than him. Given their age difference, Hugh Jackman felt much older than he actually was and the co-stars’ shenanigans made him come to the conclusion that he was the old man on the set.

It’s been less than 12 years since Dan Stevens raised a middle finger to the British aristocracy, quitting “Downton Abbey” as the show neared its Emmy-amassing zenith and setting sail for America with his family. As he admits, he had “absolutely no idea” what was going to happen to him.
“There was no roadmap,” the 41-year-old actor explains with frank honestly about a decision that, at the time, was considered by many to be sheer lunacy. “I left ‘Downton’ with a blank slate. It was just, ‘I think I want to do other things.’ But I didn’t know what that looked like.”
To have an idea of what that currently looks like, anyone need just head to their nearest cinema, where Stevens is going head-to-head against himself in two of the biggest studio releases of the season. In what has become something of a calling card for the Brit...

Created by Akira Toriyama, The Dragon Ball manga and anime series has overarched in its popularity, thanks to its well-written characters, gripping storylines, and a long list of antagonists that keeps the series interesting. The saga is now in its Superhero Arc, which focuses on Piccolo and our beloved Gohan-san, as Kakarot and Vegeta are off-planet focusing on getting stronger.

Toriyama-Sensei focused on presenting a more intrinsic, closed-loop story than the usual dynamic, and typical storyline that the franchise is usually known for. However, it looks like the mangaka artist’s vision had failed as larger-than-life visuals and a longer screen time of their favorite characters, that is Son-Goku and Vegeta were something they needed. To make things worse for Akira Toriyama, he noticed a grave slip-up in the title of the film which went unnoticed by everyone on the team.

In March 2019, Marvel Studios regained the film rights to X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Deadpool after Disney’s acquisition of Fox for $71.3 billion.
These characters are planned to be integrated into the MCU. In October 2020, the ‘X-Men’ and ‘Fantastic Four’ films were rebranded as “Marvel Legacy films” on Disney+. Notably, Patrick Stewart already reprised his role as an alternate Professor X in ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ and Kelsey Grammer returned as Beast in ‘The Marvels’. ‘Deadpool & Wolverine’ a sequel to ‘Deadpool 2,’ will bring Deadpool and Wolverine, portrayed by Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, respectively, into the MCU continuity.
MCU already has at least six mutants that we know of starting with Kamala Khan, who was also made mutant in the comics retconning her Inhuman origins, and with the most recent inclusion of Beast in the ‘The Marvels’ post-credit scenes. There’s also the fact that ‘X-Men ’97’ is widely popular,...
