Think about the experience of sitting and watching a movie. What is it about that big, wonderful image that connects with you? The list of candidates for the 2020 Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences’ Board of Governors election is now out, with the winner in each branch being chosen directly from these entries rather than whittling it down to four finalists in each, as has been done previously. The list of candidates is made up of qualified AMPAS members who actually submit themselves.
Also new this year in the streamlined timetable, as Deadline exclusively reported May 16. The winners for the 17 open slots on the 54-member board will be chosen by preferential balloting, just like Best Picture race at the Oscars. Voting begins Monday and ballots are due back June 5.
The actors branch is the largest in the Academy and it also has drawn the biggest field of contenders for the one spot that is up. Incumbent governor Whoopi Goldberg is running for re-election against past governor Ed Begley Jr. vying to return to the board.

Coming off one of its most contentious years in history, the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences has sent out its list of candidates for its Board of Governors elections late this month.
The Board of Governors directs the Academy’s strategic vision, preserves the organization’s financial health, and assures the fulfillment of its mission.
Governors attend 6-8 board meetings annually (in person or by video conference when out of town). Each Governor also serves on one board oversight committee and their branch’s executive committee, and they are expected to represent their branch at numerous Academy events through the year.
Governors have fiduciary responsibilities imposed by state law to serve the Academy’s best interests, by acting with responsibility and care when approving annual goals presented by management, as well as major policies concerning governance.
CEO Dawn Hudson oversees a staff of more than 300 who conduct the Academy’s day-to-day business.

Welcome to Rumorville! Here you can learn about casting news that’s about to break in Hollywood. These speculations might be only rumors, but that doesn’t mean you can’t follow the trail all the way to the audition room. “Pitch Perfect 4”When something is perfect, why not try to hit another high note? In a recent appearance on “The Ellen Show,” Rebel Wilson hinted at a fourth “Pitch Perfect” movie in development and announced she will be shooting another musical within the next year. While the Australian star, who is currently on a press tour for her latest film “Isn’t It Romantic,” refused to confirm or deny if the musical was a “Pitch Perfect” project, she added, “Us Pitch Perfect girls, we love each other and we always wanna work together.” A recent Instagram photo of Wilson and costars Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, and Chrissie Fit all...

At this point, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ governors election looks more like a round-up than a race; more than 180 members have declared their interest in filling 17 contested spots on the 54-member Board of Governors.
Voting in the run-off round starts on Monday and ends May 18. That will narrow the present field to a maximum of four nominees per branch in the final round, which follows.
For now, there are on average about 11 candidates in the running for each slot. In the casting directors and costume design branches, only three members have declared for each slot. But not so in the actors branch, where 17 members — including Brie Larson, Jacki Weaver and Meg Ryan — are vying for the spot being vacated by termed-out Tom Hanks; or the producers, executives, and public relations branches, all of which have a bumper crop of candidates. Marvin Levy, currently a governor in the public relations branch,...

Kristen Stewart, is that you?
Anna Kendrick stopped by The Tonight Show on Tuesday, where she showed off her uncanny impression of a fellow Hollywood actress.
“I do one impression, and it’s the weirdest impression, too,” she told host Jimmy Fallon. “I should have like a Christopher Walken or something, and I have a Kristen Stewart. I don’t why.”
Kendrick said she’s been a longtime fan of Twilight — a franchise she’s appeared in — and has even showed Stewart her impersonation.
“She was like, ‘yeah, I do that with my mouth,'” Kendrick recalled of Stewart’s reaction.

“Pitch Perfect 3” leans into its nostalgia from the very first needle drop: Director Trish Sie’s debut entry into the unlikely franchise kicks off with the Bellas – no more “Barden” attached to that moniker, because college is but a distant, sparkling memory to these a capella nerds now – working their way through an energetic and increasingly desperate rendition of Britney Spears’ “Toxic.” This desperation happens to make sense in context, but it’s a feeling that will only spread throughout the rest this mostly limp, tone-deaf entry in this musical series.
As the Bellas amiably chirp through their routine, it becomes obvious that this is no regular performance – for starters, they’re on a yacht, and everyone looks slightly uneasy. Then Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson, game as ever) blows said yacht up, launching “Pitch Perfect 3” into the bizarre imitation of a spy movie, set to the dulcet tones...

The Bellas returns for their third and final film. Here's our review of Pitch Perfect 3...
After two college set Pitch Perfect movies, we return to the musical world of the Barden Bellas for their swansong, as they grapple with the realities of life after university: unsatisfying jobs, broken relationships, pregnancy, Amy Winehouse tribute acts... it's a mixed bag for the former acapella superstars. When the opportunity comes for them to join the Uso tour for one last hurrah (and maybe win the opportunity to open for DJ Khaled’s show) they jump at the chance to sing together again and relive their former glory.
But of course nothing comes easily for the Bellas and they are up against other music acts who are aca-sceptics and aca-doubters who use real instruments (gasp) and don’t appreciate their aca-talents. There's also the added complication of the surprise appearance of John Lithgow...

We've finally come to the end of 2017, which means: lots of under-the-wire Oscar hopefuls! The return of the Bellas! A brand spankin' new Star Wars! Along with the final push of awards contenders (Steven Spielberg! Paul Thomas Anderson! Guillermo del Toro!), viewers can look forward to a pair of biopics about ethically compromised women, two vastly different musicals and the Rock taking on motorcycle-riding warriors and a safari's worth of jungle creatures. Oh, and James Franco giving what may arguably be the single greatest performance of the year. Yes, you read that sentence correctly.

You never know where you’ll find an opportunity to land an audition! “This is Jane”Laura Kaplan’s nonfiction book, “The Story of Jane: The Legendary Underground Feminist Abortion Service,” is getting a timely screen treatment from Amazon, and Kimberly Peirce will direct it. The story follows the Chicago woman who founded a safe abortion service before Roe v. Wade was passed in 1973. No talent is attached, but that seems to be the next step now that a director, writer, and producer are all on board. No casting director has been announced either, but Peirce has worked with Avy Kaufman in the past. “Bad Boys II” SpinoffThe “Bad Boys II” spinoff TV series starring Gabrielle Union was trying to find a home in October, and NBC has claimed it.

Hailee Steinfeld‘s first kiss wasn’t exactly butterflies and fireworks.
The “Love Myself” singer, 20, graces the cover of Cosmopolitan‘s December issue, where she recalled locking lips for the first time during the summer before sixth grade.
Unfortunately, like many before her, she found the experience disappointing.
“I set my expectations waaay too high,” Steinfeld revealed.
The Pitch Perfect 3 star said that nowadays she doesn’t need a man to feel good — in fact, she feels sexiest when she’s “onstage performing for my fans.”
Steinfeld said last year that she isn’t putting too much thought into finding a boyfriend.

Of all the dysfunctional relationships on How to Get Away With Murder — and there are many — it might be Annalise and Bonnie’s that tops the Most Messed-Up list.
As we are reminded in a series of flashbacks in Thursday’s episode, we’ve watched Annalise and her former colleague go through all sorts of emotional dynamics in the last three years: Bonnie begging Annalise not to fire her after it was revealed she had kissed Annalise’s husband; Annalise fiercely reassuring Bonnie that she does love her; Bonnie and Annalise sharing a lip-lock of their own when Annalise was particularly drunk one night.

No, this project wasn’t plucked directly from your dreams, but it may as well have been. Jane Fonda, Diane Keaton, and Candace Bergen are all attached to star in “Book Club,” a comedic feature set in and around California. Barden/Schnee is handling casting duties for the film, which depicts four lifelong friends whose lives are forever changed after they read “50 Shades of Grey” in their monthly book club. Chris here. Are you ready for another acapella round of pop mashups and "pitch" puns? Anna Kendrick and the rest of the Barden Bellas will be back for a third trip to the stage for this Christmas's Pitch Perfect 3. And we just got out first glimpse of what fun is in store with a first teaser trailer.
Except this trailer looks very little like what we've loved in the past. Instead of musical numbers, we get hints of action sequences and icky jokes at timeliness like Rebel Wilson in a "Make American Eat Again" hat - looks like we might be headed for the pitfalls of "a sequel means we must go bigger" syndrome.
