Dubai, Sep 1 (Ians) 2018 Asia Cup runners-up Bangladesh find themselves in a do-or-die scenario as the Shakib Al Hasan-led side aim to get the better of five-time champions Sri Lanka in a Group B Asia Cup 2022 match at the Dubai International Stadium on Thursday.
Both Bangladesh and Sri Lanka suffered defeats against Afghanistan, who are already into Super Four stage and are now left to see who progresses between them to the last four stage from Group B after Thursday’s match, dubbed as the virtual knockout clash.
While both teams need to sort out their batting issues, former India cricket-turned-commentator Sanjay Manjrekar believes Bangladesh would need left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman to bring his A-game against Sri Lanka.
Rahman, also known as ‘The Fizz’ due to his ability to bamboozle batters with his slowers and cutters, was far from his best in the match against Afghanistan. He conceded 30 runs in his three overs,...

With the remake of the 1980s soap opera arriving today, what better time to take a nostalgia-filled lookback at Dynasty?
Cast your mind back, if you can, to the year of 1981. Bucks Fizz, Adam and the Ants and Soft Cell were storming the charts, Only Fools And Horses aired its first series on BBC One and Gregory’s Girl was playing in a cinema near you. Meanwhile, stateside, ABC had cooked up a suitably glamorous and scandalous competitor to Dallas, the CBS drama packed full of Stetsons and suspense. The world may have recently discovered who shot J.R., but there was still plenty of room for the Carringtons.
Enter Dynasty, a show based around the business and family of oil tycoon Blake Carrington (John Forsythe) whose recent marriage to his former secretary Krystle (Linda Evans) was making waves within the family mansion. With the Colby family...

The bodies of the three women found in the shed on an Idaho man’s farmhouse have been identified as his wife, his alleged mistress and her teenage daughter.
Michael Bullinger, 60, is wanted for the triple homicide of wife Cheryl Baker, 56, Nadja Medley, 48, and 14-year-old Payton Medley. The women’s bodies were found decomposing in a storage shed on Bullinger’s Caldwell, Idaho property in June after Baker’s family asked deputies to make a welfare check on the couple, a Canyon County Sheriff’s Office press release states.
A manhunt has been underway for Bullinger since the discovery of the victims’ bodies.

Officials have launched a national search for the homeowner of an Idaho property where the dead bodies of three unidentified women — all gunshot victims — were found decomposing in a storage shed earlier this week.
The owner of the shed, 60-year-old Gerald Michael Bullinger, is a person of interest in their alleged murders, officials with the Canyon County, Idaho, Sheriff’s Office announced at a news conference on Wednesday.
The women were believed to have been killed nearly two weeks ago. They were each shot once.

With an anniversary reunion in the pipeline, we celebrate macabre, inventive, brilliant comedy series The League Of Gentlemen...
“Would you describe yourself as an egregious person?” I asked Reece Shearsmith at a recent Q&A. I was nervous. Everyone else had asked questions about his writing, complimented his performances and asked about the upcoming series of Inside No 9. I just wanted to see how he’d respond. “Piss off,” he said. Actually, I shouldn’t put that in quotation marks because that’s not really what he said. What he really said was much more blue but very jovial and the audience all laughed. Phew. I was initially apprehensive that no one would get the reference but I needn’t have been. It turns out The League Of Gentlemen has a timelessness to it and a special place in the hearts of comedy fans that no other show,...

Alex Kingston will reprise the role of River Song alongside Peter Capaldi’s Doctor in the 2015 Christmas special…
The last time we saw River Song, she was uttering her catchphrase ‘spoilers’ towards the end of The Name Of The Doctor – the finale of Matt Smith’s last full series. Clearly, there was a chance that she might one day be back.
Now – she is. Alex Kingston will reprise her sassy space-faring role in this year’s Christmas special, written by Steven Moffat and directed by Douglas Mackinnon (Flatline, Listen, Cold War).
“To be honest, I did not know whether River would ever return to the show, but here she is, back with the Doctor for the Christmas special,” said Alex Kingston in the official press bumf.

Pointless hosts Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman unleash their inner euro-pop stars in a musical performance on this week's Eurovision Pointless special.
The duo's electronic Pet Shop Boys-esque track 'Nul Points' isn't actually too bad. It's definitely better than some United Kingdom entries of recent years, mentioning no names.
Watch Alexander and Richard perform 'Nul Points':
The Pointless Eurovision special airs on Saturday at 6.20pm on BBC One.
The special guests are Bucks Fizz singers and 1981 winners Cheryl Baker and Mike Nolan; Johnny Logan and Dana, who both won the title for Ireland; Brotherhood of Man's Martin Lee and Sonia; and Jemini duo Chris Cromby and Gemma Abbey, who famously scored nul points in 2003.
At least if Jemini repeat their Eurovision score on Pointless, this time it will actually be good news.

It's been over a decade since The League of Gentlemen came to an end on the BBC after three incredibly dark and incredibly funny series. It's been eight years since we finally bid farewell to the show's characters in the bonkers movie spin-off Apocalypse.
However, one of the show's creators Reece Shearsmith gave hope to the show's fans yesterday that there might be a reunion on the cards, tweeting a picture of three of the show's writers (or is it possibly four?) posing together.

We know it's "a cross between Hoover and 8 Men Down", but we're still a little in the dark as to rules on the wildcards.

Veteran crooner Englebert Humperdinck is set to represent the UK in the 2012 Eurovision song contest which will be held in Azerbaijan during May. Humperdinck will sing Love Will Set You Free which was co-written by Grammy Award-winning Martin Terefe and Sacha Skarbek. Guitarist James Bryan who has previously worked with Nelly Furtado will accompany the singer on stage.
Humperdinck will be hoping to emulate British acts such as Bucks Fizz and Sandie Shaw who won the continental singing contest in the past but voters from Europe have been less than kind to British acts in recent years. Performers from East European nations have dominated the event for the last decade although Norway and Germany temporarily bucked that trend with a surprise wins in 2009 and 2010 respectively. The London Super Comic Convention happened this weekend at the Excel Centre in East London. Stan Lee was there. As was one ‘Jack Kirby’ (that’s me!) and my companion for the day, Mat Barnett. Neither of us had been to a comic convention before, but there was much of what you might have expected to see on display: lots of stalls selling vintage comics, a Forbidden Planet merchandise stand, signing sessions and discussion panels. Oh and cosplay people. Quite a lot of those.
So far, so much what you might reasonably expect from film and television. But where’s the story there? In the name of investigative journalism, Barnett and I took it upon ourselves to find out what really makes a comic convention tick, to see behind the metaphorical curtain, to peek through the Perspex window on the security door of reality; in short to seek the truth,...

Everyone loves karaoke. Even those people who vehemently deny the fact – ply them with enough Babycham and they’ll be up doing their finest Tom Jones in double quick time, crooning like it’s noone’s business. And in the same way that the hugely successful Guitar Hero franchise channelled that inherent need we have to strum an air guitar in appreciation of a song, there have been a raft of games, lead by We Sing and Lips that succeed because of how infectious music is.
The track list is very much geared towards melding some fine karaoke classics, like Bananarama’s “Venus” and the frankly brilliant “Never Gunna Give You Up” by Rick Astley, with modern favourites from the likes of Adele and Coldplay and some additions from the Unspoken Classics Songbook like Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” and Madness’ “It Must Be Love”. Popstar to Operastar victor Joe McElderry has lost his voice after celebrating his win with a party and a karaoke session.
20 year old Joe – and his fellow finalist Cheryl Baker – had been on a booze ban in the lead up to the show’s final, so Joe made the most of the end of that embargo.
The Sun states, “But after clinching the title on Sunday he spent the night belting out karaoke hits with judge Katherine Jenkins and steps singer Claire Richards, who reached the semi-finals.”
Joe said, “We ended up singing lots of Steps songs.
“I didn’t get home until 5am, and had to be on ITV’s Daybreak at six.
“It’s not like me, I’d never normally stay out that late but it was the last time we would see each other properly and we were all celebrating the end of the show.
“We’ve grown very close.

The X Factor star topped the public vote ahead of rival finalist Cheryl Baker to emerge victorious from the second series of the ITV singing contest. Popstar to Operastar finalist Cheryl Baker has revealed that she’s “terrified” that she might forget the lyrics to her songs in tomorrow night’s final.
Cheryl is of course competing against Joe McElderry to be crowned this year’s winner, but her fear was prompted when last week, during a duet with Joe, she forgot the words.
Cheryl told The Sun’s TV Biz, “In last week’s duet, I had to come in first but the audience were chatting so loudly I couldn’t hear.
“So I came in with the wrong words and an octave out. I ended up making up loads of words in Cherylese and I was just singing random sounds that meant nothing.
“Then I was lip-reading off Joe, who saved me.”
But Popstar To Operastar has given Cheryl a taste for more reality TV it would seem…

Popstar to Operastar finalist Cheryl Baker has been telling the Daily Mirror what her “dream weekend” would be like.
Here’s the interview in full…
What’s the perfect way to spend a Saturday?
“Shopping, shopping and more shopping! I live in Kent and I like going to the markets nearby. In the summer, the Pantiles market in Tunbridge Wells is brilliant.
“I also really love stopping for a cappuccino – just the one shot, mind you, as I don’t like it too strong.
“But I won’t be tempted by any cakes as I’m dieting, so it’s just the coffee for me.”
Night in or night out on Saturday?
“I much prefer staying in with my husband, Steve, and just chilling with my teenage daughters. We never have takeaways as we cook for ourselves. I also like to treat myself to a glass of fizz if I’m feeling particularly extravagant!

Popstar to Operastar hopeful Joe McElderry has revealed that he’s hoping to triumph in tomorrow night’s final in order to prove his music career “isn’t over.”
Joe, who of course won the X Factor in 2009 but parted ways with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco earlier this year, will compete against Bucks Fizz star Cheryl Baker in tomorrow night’s showdown.
Speaking to The Sun, Joe said, “I just hope Simon Cowell is watching. Maybe he can tune in on Sunday and see what he’s missed!”
Joe went on to say that being on Popstar To Operastar has proved “technically tougher” than being on X Factor, but he reckons the judges aren’t as harsh!
He added, “These judges are nicer. They’re certainly nicer than Simon. Nobody can top Simon Cowell…

Popstar to Operastar contestants Claire Richards and Joe Washbourn believe they’ll leave the contest this week.
Claire, former Steps star, and Joe, Toploader’s front man, have been paired together for the semi-final duet this coming Sunday, and Joe revealed that the choice of song – ‘Con Te Partiro’, Italian for “time to say goodbye” – intimates that their time may be up.
Speaking to the Daily Star, Joe said, “It means “time to say goodbye” in Italian. So it sounds like we are going”.
Former X Factor winner Joe McElderry – who’s still firm favourite to win the show – will duet with Bucks Fizz singer Cheryl Baker, and he’s claimed that if he wins, it’ll be because he won on the “popular vote”.
Classical opera singer Katherine Jenkins has previously suggested that 20-year-old Joe could have a great career in opera if he’s prepared to put in the tough training.

Popstar to Operastar hopeful Cheryl Baker has been banned from boozing for as long as she’s in the competition.
The former Bucks Fizz singer has been told by her vocal coaches – including judge Katherine Jenkins – to lay off alcohol so that she can “protect her vocal chords” and give herself the best chance of winning Popstar to Operastar 2011.
Cheryl told the Daily Star, “We’ve all been warned to protect our voices. You’re not meant to drink alcohol but have lots of water.
“So everyone is saying, ‘No Bucks Fizz.’ Ha!
“I’m not meant to drink milk or eat cheese or chocolate. Dairy products clog up your chords…
“But you are meant to get lots of sleep. Some chance!”
57 year old Cheryl added that if she makes it through to the final, she hopes to be able to sing one of Buck Fizz’s greatest hits opera-style.

Things weren’t looking great for Cheryl Baker when she started on Popstar To Operastar this evening.
The former Bucks Fizz singer admitted that she has never been a fan if classical singing or music in the past, she confessed:
“I have always thought that opera is snobby and for toffs. Why does it always have to sung in French, German and Italian?”
However, as we watched her Vt we realised that as she received more and more training, the 57 year old star actually became more comfortable with the genre and when she took to the stage on the ITV live show, we were pleasantly surprised by her voice.
Surprisingly, her vocals were very strong, much more steady than those of her fellow female contestant Melody Thornton and we can see why bosses saved Cheryl’s performance for last….it really was the highlight of the show.

Joe McElderry has claimed that appearing on Popstar To Operastar will be made easier by the fact that he has reality TV experience.
The 19 year old singer won ‘The X Factor’ in 2009 and was recently dropped by Simon Cowell’s record label 18 months later. Since being announced as a contestant on the channel’s opera based show, Joe explained he isn’t scared about appearing in front of judges Katherine Jenkins and Rolando Villazon because he is an old hand at TV talent shows.

Cheryl Baker has admitted that she is backing Jedward to win the Eurovision Song Contest tonight.
The 57 year old singer won the contest in 1981 with her band Bucks Fizz and their song “Making Your Mind Up” and while she admits that Britain’s entrants Blue have a ‘good chance,’ she thinks the X Factor stars may emerge as tonight’s champions.
Cheryl told The Sun:
