Ever since FIFA International Soccer launched back in 1993 fans have regularly heaped praise on EA for the realistic gameplay, belting soundtracks and inventive options like Fut that have set the standard in sports gaming.
Equally fans have criticised the developers EA Sports for the lack of depth and seemingly incremental tweaks, while needless changes to things like defending have frustrated even the most carefree players.

Relief. That is the only emotion on Tyneside right now. Jonas Gutierrez delivered the sweetest of moments in his final appearance in a Magpies shirt as he secured Newcastle United’s 2-0 victory over West Ham United at St James’ Park.
Newcastle United will be in the Premier League next season, but only just – and it took until the very final ball of the 2014-15 campaign had been kicked before that was confirmed.
There will be a post-mortem examination, because pride in Newcastle United is something the Toon Army are still struggling to find in their club right now – but they backed their team to the very hilt against West Ham United. Newcastle have finally won a match for the first time since February 28th – and oh how crucial that victory was.

Djamal Abdoun’s penalty, a second half Jamie Paterson hat-trick and an Andy Reid strike saw Championship promotion contenders Nottingham Forest slaughter a youthful West Ham team in the Fa Cup third round.
Reds boss Billy Davies made two changes from the draw at Reading on New Year’s Day. Nathaniel Chalobah was ineligible to play and Jamie Mackie dropped to the bench as Abdoun and Guy Moussi returned to the XI.
Hammers manager Sam Allardyce named a team with just two survivors from the defeat at Fulham last time out. Alou Diarra and Modibo Maiga kept their places whilst five academy graduates started. Adrian was in goal with Stewart Downing and Matt Jarvis operating as wingbacks. Ravel Morrison played despite a niggling groin problem.
Forest were gifted an early lead when George Moncur tripped Paterson in the box on 11 minutes after some fancy footwork.

Chelsea kept pace with Premier League top two Arsenal and Manchester City by beating European hopefuls Southampton on the South Coast thanks to an inspired substitution. Oscar set up Fernando Torres and Willian before scoring himself to sink the hosts.
Torres lashed across the face of the home goal with a minute played as the Saints defence were caught napping. Moments later the Blues striker was set away by Gaston Ramirez’s mistake, but Jose Fonte got his teammate out of trouble.
Chelsea continued their dominant start with Andre Schurrle fired narrowly wide. Kelvin Davis then had to come smartly off his line and snuff out the danger from Ramires when Torres played him in.
Southampton settled and threatened through skipper Adam Lallana, but Ashley Cole blocked his effort after tucking in from left back. Torres then lashed over for the visitors after popping up on the left and racing infield.

Sunderland Head Coach Gus Poyet said that he had no excuses for his sides 0-0 draw at home to Norwich, the Black Cats’ third goalless stalemate in four Premier League games. Poyet spoke after the game:
“We are losing time, we are losing games. I said in the beginning after winning a couple, we needed to win 11 to think ‘Can we get to 40 [points]?’ and we can’t win a football game, so who are you going to blame?
“This is where we are. The quality is what you see, there is no more. I was not expecting this. I have always said I hate excuses — until now, for some reason, we have always had an excuse and people can use it.
“Today, we have not. Today was a day to win and we didn’t, so we are responsible for where we are and it’s getting more and more difficult.

Sunderland will have to settle for just a single point this Christmas as they were left frustrated by a quiet Norwich side at the Stadium of Light.
The Black Cats failed to take advantage of almost a dozen decent chances but the sending off of Wes Brown at the end took away any chance of yet another stoppage time goal this season.
Head Coach Gus Poyet decided to field the XI that ended the midweek Capital One Cup clash with Chelsea, which ultimately seen Sunderland proceed to the final four. Ki Sung-Yeung and Fabio Borini, who both scored after coming off the bench on Tuesday, came in for Adam Johnson and Craig Gardner. Phil Bardsley replaced Andrea Dossena at left back.
There were no major talking points in the first half. Sunderland perhaps looked the most likely to score but any opportunity was left too late or taken too quick.

Manchester City put six past Arsenal in a high-octane encounter to continue their undefeated run at home and move to within three points of the Premier League leaders.
Theo Walcott scored twice to give the visitors a chance and Per Mertesacker headed a third, but goals from Sergio Aguero, Alvaro Negredo, David Silva, Yaya Toure and a brace from Fernandinho blew Arsene Wenger’s side away.
The Gunners could have opened an eight-point lead at the top of the table this evening but that never looked likely as it took Aguero just 14 minutes to break the deadlock, firing in from close range following Martin Demichelis’ headed flick-on.
Walcott levelled the scores when his shot into the ground deceived Demichelis and Costel Pantilimon 15 minutes later but Negredo ensured the home side went into half time in front after stabbing in Pablo Zabaleta’s cross.

Aston Villa’s poor run has stemmed from the dip in form of their front trio Gabriel Agbonlahor, Andreas Weimann, and Christian Benteke. They will be without Agbonlahor and Weimann for the Cardiff clash, which means a new look attacking pairing again for Lambert’s men. Left-back continues to be a problem area for the Midlands side, with Antonion Luna and Joe Bennett both ruled out with injury – leaving Lambert to stick with a makeshift left-side with Leandro Bacuna set to deputise.
Cardiff City are playing with confidence, but have had unwanted distractions from the club’s owner Vincent Tan. Nevertheless, they will still be on cloud nine following the Swansea victory and will regard this weekend’s match as winnable considering Aston Villa poor home form – with just one win at Villa Park this season.

Hull City left Tyneside with all three points on Saturday after a pulsating 3-2 victory over Newcastle.
The visitors trailed at the break thanks to a brace from Magpies forward Loic Remy, but Steve Bruce’s side produced a stunning comeback to move them into the top-half the Premier League table.
Goals from Robbie Brady, Ahmed Elmohamady and Sone Aluko were enough to earn City their first away win of the campaign in front of over 51,000 at St. James’ Park.
It was a bright start from the home side, with Remy looking a constant threat down the left and Vurnon Anita, Yohan Cabaye and Moussa Sissoko all linking up well in midfield.
And it was Remy who broke the deadlock after ten minutes when he grabbed his first goal for the club since his loan move from Queens Park Rangers.

Paul Lambert was given his toughest pre-season test when his Villa side took on a Malaga team already full of confidence
after some inspiring pre-season results themselves, including a 3-3 draw away to Galatasary, but the Villains emerged the victors after Christian Benteke fired another double to beat last year’s 6th place finishers in La Liga.
A headed goal from defender Ron Vlaar rounded out the scoring for Villa between Benteke’s double, and an own goal from new boy Jores Okore, and an impressive strike from Darder made it two for the Spanish visitors.
Villa’s line up probably reflected, or would be very close to the side that will start against Arsenal next week, and that victory against a side who progressed well in the Champions League last year can be cause for confidence.

To be fair to Fellaini last night, he took advantage of a situation that wasn’t helped by the performance of the referee, Martin Atkinson, who missed some big calls during the game, and was consistently inconsistent in his punishments, awarding yellow cards when he shouldn’t, and none where he should. Today’s early kick-off in the Premier League sees Manchester United making the short trip across the city to the Etihad stadium to face Mancini’s Man City, and the news is that Carlos Tevez starts on the bench against his former club.
City also start without Maicon, who starts on the bench, as well as the injured quartet of Rodwell, Milner (both hamstring), Richards (knee), and Kolarov (thigh). Menawhile both Clichy (ankle), Silva (hamstring) are ruled fit to play.
United are without Anderson (hamstring), Nani (hamstring), Kagawa, and Vidic (both knee), so Jonny Evans starts in the centre of defence alongside Rio Ferdinand, but there is good news on Valencia and Cleverley who both start despite early doubts.
Though the Premier League title won’t be decided today, if United win and pull 6 points ahead of their nearest, fiercest rivals, the pressure will be on Roberto Mancini to close the gap quickly.

Coming into this game, it was being highlighted as a ‘must win’ game for Chelsea. This game wasn’t just any race for Champions League football; the game was one of the most anticipated derbies this season. With Spurs’ dip in form in recent games could the away side become closer to Champions league football or could Chelsea relieve the pressure from 6th place Newcastle and keep their Champions league dreams alive.
The game started with both teams playing the ball in the middle of the pitch, Chelsea’s 5th minute chance ended in confusion after Drogba and Lampard chased the same ball. John Terry looked on top of his game, denying several chances by clearing any attempt made by Tottenham. By the 20th minute, both defences were remaining strong which was due to the fact no team had any urgency in attacking. The 25th minute ticked by and still no attempts on goal.

Billed by some as the “Axe Factor”, this battle between the Premier League’s two most under-fire managers ended in a result that may well be the final nail in Steve Kean‘s coffin, as Blackburn were defeated 2-1 by Owen Coyle‘s Bolton.
Bolton’s utter domination of the first-half and goals from Mark Davies and Nigel Reo-Coker were enough to see off a spirited second-half display from Rovers who grabbed one back through Yakubu.
It was Bolton who looked the more up for the game from the off and landed the first blow after just five minutes when Davies struck the ball low past Paul Robinson after some woeful Rovers defending.
The Bolton fans were in high voice before the goal, drowning out the home fans with ease, and met Davies’ strike with even more raucous chanting. If the Blackburn fans were heard at all it was their chants of “Kean out!

After proving that Manchester City are in fact beatable, Andre Villas-Boas’s Blues turn their attention to slightly easier opposition in the form of Wigan Athletic. Perhaps not quite as easy as the Latics would have been a month or two ago though, Roberto Martinez’s side have recorded two wins in their last three games – away to Sunderland and West Brom. Saying that though, Chelsea have won 6 of their 7 visits to Lancashire, and have recorded both 6-0 and 8-0 victories in their last three games there. It should be an interesting one at the Dw Stadium, and it’s very likely you’ll be seeing some awkward forced celebrations with the Chelsea squad and their Portuguese maestro.

Finally, after waiting all summer for summer to arrive, it does. In October. If someone can explain this ‘Indian Summer’ term that’s bandied about, I’d gladly listen. There’s a time and a place for warm weather, and that place is called ‘on holiday’. Whoever claims that sunshine and heat make for ‘glorious’ conditions in which to enjoy football, is sorely mistaken.
Looking across the terraces, a sea of shaven heads red and dripping with sweat while trains and buses across the land are packed full of humanity at it’s clammiest, all accompanied with a scent that suggests antiperspirant has gone out of fashion.
In short, hot weather isn’t nice, it’s bloody horrible may it soon piss off so we can welcome back big jumpers, naked trees and rainy afternoons. Lunging tackles and match postponements, much more my cup of tea.

Wolves spent the second 45 minutes of this game clinging on for dear life as Aston Villa threw everything they had at Mick McCarthy’s men, to no avail. In a game with relatively few on chances on target, it was the Villans who took the game by the scruff of the neck, testing Wayne Hennessey in the Wolves goal a few times, but nowhere near as much as Alex McLeish would have liked. Wanderers held on for a good point however, moving up to the top of the table in the process for the second time in two weeks.
It is testament to the erratic nature of the opening weeks of the Premier League that this derby, usually a mid table affair, was contested by two teams in the top four; Wolves and Aston Villa starting the game in 3rd and 4th place respectively.
