When Peter Billingsley's comedy "Couples Retreat" was released in 2009, some critics argued that the title should serve as a warning. It only garnered a 10% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with Peter Bradshaw from the Guardian saying that former Prime Minister of Cambodia, Pol Pot, could have written a warmer, funnier film.
The film follows four middle-aged couples on a retreat to a tropical resort called Eden where they mean to rekindle their respective flagging relationships. The couples are played by Vince Vaughn and Malin Åkerman, Jon Favreau and Kristin Davis, Jason Bateman and Kristen Bell, and Faizon Love and Kali Hawk. The cast was stacked, and the story interspersed run-of-the-mill midlife crises with limp attempts at slapstick. The film cost $60 million to make and netted $171 million worldwide, so it wasn't a bomb, but it also was dismissed and forgotten by the culture at large.

Swiss performer Nemo has won the 68th Eurovision Song Contest, beating Croatian artist Baby Lasagna, who finished second, in what was perhaps the most divisive competition in its history.
The nonbinary singer, representing Switzerland, won with their track “The Code” collecting 591 points from a combination of music industry juries in each participating country and the global public. Croatia placed second with 547 points at the event in Malmö, Sweden and Ukraine third with 453 points. Rounding out the top five were France and Israel with 445 and 375 points, respectively.
Eurovision was back and supplied everything fans are used to seeing on Europe’s most eccentric music night of the year: corset-clad dancers in knee-high leather boots puckering up for the Spanish “Kylie Minogue,” Ireland‘s horned goth gremlin scream-singing a dark tale of witchcraft and some crafty camerawork masking the genitals of Finnish entrant Windows95Man (his denim shorts were swiftly delivered onstage by...

Switzerland has won the Eurovision Song Contest.
Swiss entry Nemo stormed the contest with the song “The Code,” walking away with 591 points — a combination of a jury vote and public vote.
But during Nemo’s victory performance at the end of the four-hour show the singer accidentally dropped the microphone-shaped glass trophy, injuring their thumb in the process.
“I didn’t just break ‘The Code’ I also broke the trophy,” said Nemo during the press conference after the show, where their hand was wrapped in a bandage. “I broke my thumb as well. But I got a new [trophy] so I technically have two now.”
The non-binary singer — who is the first Swiss Eurovision winner since Celine Dion won in 1988 — was presented with the trophy by last year’s winner, Swedish singer Loreen.

It’s that time of year again, when Europe and pop music collide in a riotous (and sometimes downright bonkers) display of color, rhythm and fun. This year, the Eurovision Song Contest is being held in Malmo, Sweden, after Swedish singer Loreen won the 2023 competition.
Ahead of the grand final on Saturday evening, the contest’s executive supervisor Martin Österdahl sat down with Variety to talk about how the show has been inspired by the Oscars, is one of the few platforms left that offers “overnight success” and hopes to be a “beacon of light” during times of geopolitical instability.
With this year being the fiftieth anniversary of Abba performing “Waterloo” at Eurovision – a moment that paved the way for the band to conquer the world – and the competition taking place in the band’s hometown of Sweden, there is a lot of anticipation building for some kind of Abba reunion.

“Initially I did say no,” admits Golden Globe nominated actress Chrissy Metz while discussing her participation as Poodle Moth on the Fox reality TV series “The Masked Singer.” “I didn’t think I could do it. I was like, ‘I don’t know if I’m the girl for the job.’ Also, I run hot, especially in my face. How am I going to have a mask on and sing in the way that I’m supposed to sound good? It took some convincing. Ultimately, I realized it was really fun, challenging and liberating.” Watch her exclusive video interview with Gold Derby senior editor Denton Davidson above.
Metz was unmasked as Poodle Moth on Wednesday night’s quarter-finals episode of Season 11. She went home in fourth place as Clock, Goldfish and Gumball advanced to next week’s semi-finals. Panelist Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg was the only one who guessed her identity.

Few modern blockbuster filmmakers draw as sharply divided reactions from critics and general audiences as Zack Snyder. For every review that praises Snyder’s remarkable ability to create grand, fantastical visual imagery on film, there will be another review criticizing the filmmaker’s overreliance on slow motion and weak plot points. Let us take a look at Snyder’s filmography, and the critical reaction to his works as determined by Rotten Tomatoes.
Dawn of the Dead (2004), Tomatometer: 76% Zombies attack in Dawn of the Dead
Zack Snyder‘s maiden effort as a director remains his most critically successful venture. In 2004, Zack Snyder presented the world with his dramatic reimagining of George Romero’s classic horror tale of a zombie invasion. The slick, visually compelling action scenes coupled with a strong screenplay by James Gunn help elevate the film above your run-of-the-mill horror remakes.
Dawn of the Dead is now available for streaming on Starz.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan played Edward Blake aka The Comedian in Zack Snyder’s 2009 film Watchmen. It was this lesser-known DC property that launched Snyder’s career into one of the fan-favorite Cbm directors. Morgan only had great things to say about the film, which he shared was ahead of its time. Morgan was sure that the series created by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons would be loved forever by fans.

Zack Snyder is all set to release the second part of his space opera magnum opus Rebel Moon. The Netflix film is the follow-up to last year’s Chapter 1 – A Child of Fire. The filmmaker has had a busy few years after helming large-scale blockbusters such as Army of the Dead and Justice League.
While Snyder has worked with many A-listers, he reportedly got a call from the legendary star Tom Cruise early in his career while he had just finished 300. The actor reportedly gave him a surprise call after the film opened big at the box office. Cruise was also reportedly Snyder’s first choice to play Ozymandias in his divisive Watchmen adaptation.
