Billed as a vampire comedy, Don’t Suck is the story of Pete, a burnt-out comedian who’s spent too much time chasing fame on the standup circuit. He’s finally managed to go viral, but it’s from using the C word on a cashier while trying to be funny. However, he and comedy club owner Danny dismiss it as her fault for being too easily offended.
That’s followed by Pete approvingly referring to Danny “Weinstiening” the students in his comedy class and boasting about being part of the mob that stormed the Capitol. That should give you an idea of where Don’t Suck is coming from, what kind of jokes to expect and whether or not to cut your losses and bail now.

Indisputably the best female-centric werewolf movie shot in Canada since Ginger Snaps (2000) — admittedly not the most competitive of fields — sensual queer horror story My Animal marks an impressive, confident feature debut for several key talents. First and foremost, debutante director Jacqueline Castel, already an experienced short film and music video helmer who has collaborated with David Lynch and John Carpenter, imbues this first-feature script by Jae Matthews with a woozy, dreamy, retro sensibility. (Matthews is also half of the electronic band Boy Harsher along with Augustus Muller, who contribute a very John Carpenter-esque soundtrack of sustained drones and bass-heavy humming.)
Altogether, the team creates a richly hued setting for the young but in some ways more seasoned leads. Bobbi Salvor Menuez (I Love Dick) stars as a lovelorn teen-wolf living in the sticks who looks at Amandla Stenberg’s (Bodies Bodies Bodies) figure skater with the kind of longing you...

The idea that monsters are an allegory for the human condition is just about as old as the ideas of monsters themselves. But we keep coming back to it because the human condition is full of monstrousness. And also movies where people bite each other are nifty.
Fantastical creatures like werewolves hold up a mirror to our own inner natures, revealing uncomfortable truths about our lusts, our shames, our hidden strengths, our hidden weaknesses. And when the makeup department has a decent budget, they look pretty cool, too.
And so it goes that Jacqueline Castel’s debut feature “My Animal” utilizes the werewolf mythology as our entryway for a queer coming-of-age tale. Bobbi Salvör Menuez (“Under My Skin”) stars as Heather, a young woman still living with her parents and two younger, twin brothers in a snowy town in Canada. Her surrogate son is Kyle (Billy Brick), a 17-year-old who has checked into the domestic abuse halfway house with his mother, where Evelyn is director. As Evelyn drifts from Ziggy, she latches too close onto Kyle, and the result becomes a messy relationship for each boy. Chicago – Lists are very arbitrary, but the exercise in determining a personal 10 Best Films list of any year is a celebration of what I love, and there ain’t nothing wrong with that. The filtering of experiences that form our opinions is a great gift, and the journey I’ve had with film criticism and reporting has been the greatest of my life.
So begins my* list of the 10 Best Films Of 2022, in a reflective time I guess. There were more films seen this year on the big screen since the pandemic era began, with a shout out to Avatar: The Way Of Water, Top Gun: Maverick and the Superhero genre for really bringing movie fans back to the theaters.
*The Über Critic, Patrick McDonald of HollywoodChicago.com, Wbgr-fm & Wssr-fm.
For the second year in a row, I’m formatting this 10 Best to reflect the on-air reviews I do weekly on Wbgr-fm and Wssr-fm.

Rating: 4.0/5.0
The film is about Downey Senior’s film career and contributions, as well as the final days of his life, as he passed due to Parkinson’s Disease in 2021, with his son by his side. What is interesting about this document, of course, is that it’s both a son doing a story about his father and both the father and son are famous for being involved in film. Thus their lives are totally chronicled, including Downey Junior’s first appearance in his Dad’s film Pound, about a group of dogs portrayed by humans in captivity.

2022 has been an extraordinary year for television. The pandemic forced many shows down to shorter schedules or Zoom-based episodes in 2020, which had lasting effects well into 2021, but this year feels almost like a roaring television comeback. There were so many great shows this year that I genuinely had a difficult time narrowing the list down to just 20 entries. We have been blessed with a wealth of excellent entertainment from regular networks, cable, and streaming, and now it's time to celebrate (and rank) the best of the best.
This has been an especially great year for genre TV, with an abundance of extraordinary new science fiction, fantasy, and horror shows, plus terrific new seasons from returning favorites like "What We Do in the Shadows" and "The Boys." Created by Bryan Fuller, "Pushing Daisies"followed Ned the Pie-Maker (Lee Pace), who had the seemingly magical power to resurrect the dead with a touch. His ability came with rules. One, Ned couldn't touch anyone he brought back to life or they would die again, permanently. Second, if Ned doesn't "re-dead" someone within 60 seconds, then someone else's life will be taken in an equivalent exchange.
Ned uses his ability to assist sardonic private investigator Emerson Cod (Chi McBride) in solving murder cases. Thanks to Ned, Emerson is able to interview the victims. The pilot's ("Pie-Lette") case of the week features Ned's childhood crush Charlotte "Chuck" Charles (Anna Friel) as the murdered party. Ned can't bear to "re-dead" her, but now the two have to make their relationship work even though they can't touch each other.
During its brief life from 2007 to 2009, "Pushing Daisies" was one of the most unique television shows on the air.

It was another double elimination on “The Masked Singer” Wednesday night, and insults flew about. Of course, that’s just because the theme of the night was “Comedy Roast Night,” not because of any real animosity. But in the end, the journey came to a close for Bride and Avocado.
Leading up to the reveals, the judges had a wide range of guesses. Thanks to an exclusive clip provided to TheWrap ahead of the episode, we knew going into things that Robin Thicke suspected Avocado might be “The Santa Clauses” and “Home Improvement” star Tim Allen. But, that’s mostly because he wasn’t sure who else could even fit the clue package.
As the other judges made their guesses, Thicke admitted that he was “having a little trouble” formulating a guess, “because I’m not as…” – but before he could finish his sentence, Ken Jeong supplied the word “smart,...

And in her clue package, the week’s winner, Snowstorm, referred to judge Nicole Scherzinger as someone “who has had more famous exes than Nick has had baby mamas.” After performing, she added to Cannon, “I...

“Vegas Night” opened with guest judge Donny Osmond, who appeared on Season 1, singing “The Greatest Show.

You don’t serve as head of state for almost three-quarters of a century without getting lampooned now and then. As a cultural constant, Queen Elizabeth II inspired everything from affectionate caricature to sneering punk anthems. She also excelled at playing herself alongside fellow British figures like Paddington Bear and James Bond. Here, 18 times the monarch’s outsized influence helped shape pop culture.

There will be some changes when Season 8 of Fox’s The Masked Singer premieres later this month.
Under the new format announced today by the network, each episode of the celebrity singing contest will feature the usual knock-out performances by elaborately disguised celebrities, but for the first time, only one contestant will move on from each episode. The studio audience will vote for their favorite, and the singer with the least amount of votes will unmask mid-show. That celebrity will get a front row seat in the Masked Singer VIP section to watch the rest of the competition and the second unmasking, and for the first time, won’t have to to wait to find out what celebrity they were competing against.
The Top Two singers then will face off in a Battle Royale performance of the same song. The winner will be crowned the King or Queen of The...

R.L. Stine fans, rejoice! We seem to be the middle of a renaissance for projects based on the writing of "The Stephen King of Kids Horror." Thanks to the popularity of Leigh Janiak's terrific "Fear Street" film trilogy, Netflix is reported to be cooking up even more movies based on Stine's slasher-mystery property. There's also a new live-action "Goosebumps" TV show in development at Disney+, which is already home to the lesser-known but genuinely sturdy "Just Beyond" anthology inspired by Stine's genre-blending graphic novel series of the same name.
Elsewhere, shooting is now underway on "Zombie Town," a film based on yet another one of Stine's horror books for younger readers. Published in 2012, the novel follows 12-year-old friends Mike and Karen as they head out to see the titular zombie flick in a theater, only for movie's brain-hungry monsters to lurch off the screen and begin wreaking havoc on their unsuspecting town.
