Dozens of top Hollywood creatives and activists have signed an open letter in response to the shuttering of production company Participant — imploring the industry to continue to effect change through film and television as the defunct company once did.
George Clooney, Aflonso Cuarón, Ava DuVernay, Jane Fonda, Regina King, Viola Davis, #MeToo founder Tarana Burke, civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson, Color of Change president Rashad Robinson and more are signators, in addition to groups like GLAAD and Human Rights Watch. The letter was coordinated by the National Domestic Workers Alliance (Ndwa), which collaborated with Participant and director Cuarón on a visibility campaign for his 2018 Oscar winner “Roma.”
“As we say goodbye to Participant, we must underscore that values-based storytelling is needed now more than ever,” the letter states. “There is a whole ecosystem of people, connected by the work of the last 20 years of Participant, ready to work with you.

All the Yellowstone drama has turned Kevin Costner into some sort of anti-hero figure among fans. Costner’s issues have caused some serious damage to the reputation of the TV series that saw its biggest overnight launch for the fifth-season premiere in November 2022. The second part of the fifth season will start filming soon, probably without Costner to lead the show. Yellowstone co-stars have revealed his gentler side over the years which tells a different story from the current drama.
Kevin Costner’s exit may have caused some hatred against him among the Yellowstone cast & crew
Costner plays John Dutton, the patriarch of the Dutton family and the owner of the Yellowstone ranch. Kelly Reilly, Wes Bentley, and Luke Grimes play his three children, while Cole Hauser plays his ranch hand in the Paramount series.

Christopher Nolan’s The Prestige tends to fall between the stage boards when it comes to the director’s oeuvre. It’s not as blockbuster as his Batman trilogy or as critically acclaimed as Oppenheimer (which sold so well on Blu-ray it led to a major studio shortage) but it no doubt stands as one of his finest achievements: narratively, technically and, yes, magically. And it took years to get to the screen. Distracted and delayed off and on since the days of Memento, The Prestige would end up a feat that stands alone–ironically enough when you think about it…–in Christopher Nolan’s filmography.
But this is just the Pledge. So how did Christopher Nolan turn The Prestige into a minor masterpiece? How did he pull the rabbit out of the hat? Let’s find out: Wtf Happened to this movie?!
Christopher Nolan first got wind of The Prestige – Christopher Priest’s 1995 novel,...

Some movies build their premise around a true story and make it the central focus of their marketing. Ripped-from-the-headlines cinema is a genre all its own, and it has a dedicated fan base waiting for a more dramatic telling of real-life events. Other stories, however, aren’t so clearly connected to reality, leaving viewers wondering if what they watched was mined from the depths of the writer’s mind or taken from a true-to-life inspiration. In the case of 2003’s Cheaper by the Dozen, there’s a bit of both.
‘Cheaper by the Dozen’ was a remake
In 2003, Cheaper by the Dozen hit theaters. The film’s starring cast included comedy dynamo Steve Martin, Bonnie Hunt, Hilary Duff, and Piper Perabo.

Amid a heavy dose of machismo and the constant barrage of male characters full of braggadocio, a character like Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) could have easily gotten lost in the background of "Yellowstone." Showrunner and co-creator Taylor Sheridan has become a prolific writer that's relied on actors that can sell his particular brand of badass, and surprisingly, Beth has become the most feared woman in television after five seasons on the ranch.
Sheridan's lone-wolf style of writing and brash confidence has managed to pay off in a big way now that the shows he's responsible for are almost single-handedly holding up an entire streaming service over at Paramount+. The Paramount Network has also enjoyed a huge cable ratings boost thanks to the massive appeal of "Yellowstone" and its generational spin-offs "1883" and "1923."

With gun violence becoming a near-daily occurrence in America, Hollywood is hoping to use its influence to create more authentic and sensible depictions of gun ownership. In collaboration with Brady, an organization empowering the creative community in the movement to end gun violence, over 200 writers, directors and producers, including J.J. Abrams, Judd Apatow and Damon Lindelof signed an open letter to “lead positive cultur[al] change by modeling firearm safety on-set.”
And in collaboration with that several creatives of the film and television, including actors Adam Brody and Piper Perabo, are traveling to Washington D.C. to discuss the #ShowYourSafety initiative. Before heading to the White House, Brody and Perabo sat down with TheWrap for the panel “Addressing Gun Violence in TV & Film” to discuss their association with the organization and why they hope their allyship can help create actionable change with regards to gun safety on-screen.

Yellowstone has a lot of storylines to wrap up in the second half of season 5. With John (Kevin Costner) facing impeachment and a disease ravaging the family’s livestock, it’s unclear how the season will ultimately conclude for the Duttons.
As viewers eagerly tune in for the final episodes, the second half of season 5 has been plagued by filming delays. Despite all the setbacks, creator Taylor Sheridan is currently “in Texas spinning hay into gold” for the popular neo-western.

The first half of season 5 of Yellowstone aired at the start of this year. The season only has a handful of episodes remaining and was originally expected to resume this summer. But with filming still being delayed, a return date hasn’t been set.
There is certainly a lot up in the air with half a season to go.

“Truth won’t win the battle… menace will,” tough-as-nails “Yellowstone” patriarch John Dutton utters coldly and indignantly in the lead-up to the devastating conclusion of a rip-roaring first half of the Paramount Network blockbuster’s fifth season. The first eight episodes of the show’s fifth season concluded in January, so fans of TV’s top-rated show are now clamoring for the series’ return. The second half of the season is due later this year, promising even more bloodshed and tears, political in-fighting, back-stabbing, fist-fights and corporate scheming set against the breathtaking backdrop of the unforgiving Montana wilderness.

With just six episodes left in Yellowstone Season 5, there’s a lot of ground to cover.
Between plenty of infighting among the Duttons, John (Kevin Costner) facing impeachment, and an illness threatening the family’s cattle, it’s difficult to say where audiences will find these characters by the end of the season. During Deadline’s Contenders Television panel Sunday, director/executive producer Stephen Kay said he hopes the team will be able to tie up those loose ends soon enough.
“Taylor [Sheridan] is in Texas spinning hay into gold and we’re hoping we’re hoping we’ll do it soon. Everybody’s excited,” he said.
As for everyone’s fate, stars Wes Bentley, Piper Perabo and Gil Birmingham joined the panel to ponder what Sheridan might be planning for their characters. However, Bentley said he has learned not to theorize too much. He just knows, whatever is in store for his Jamie Dutton,...

“Yellowstone” star Josh Lucas says “bring it on” to news of Matthew McConaughey’s now-confirmed franchise spinoff. The once-rumored series was confirmed to “The Hollywood Reporter” by Paramount executive Chris McCarthy last week.
“I’m always so fascinated to see what Taylor [Sheridan] is doing as he tells the story,” Lucas told Et’s Will Marfuggi of the franchise’s writer. “The thing that moves me or surprises me most is that every time I think something is too crazy or too fantastical, it turns out it’s based on a true story from Taylor’s life or from something that is very close to the cowboys that all of this story is about.”

Taylor Sheridan's remarkable "Yellowstone" series continues to delight audiences with its gritty western tropes, fearless characters, and delectable storytelling. What started as a reasonably straightforward saga about a man struggling to keep his vast Montana property has morphed into a full-fledged universe shared by spinoffs "1883" and "1923," respectively, with more on the way. Each entry deepens the Dutton family lore and forms a remarkable portrait of an imperfect family forever bound to a magnificent piece of land by blood.
Still, for all of its ambition, "Yellowstone" is an incredibly bumpy ride filled with magnificent highs and head-scratching lows. Sheridan occasionally leans too hard into cartoonish violence and contrived plot points to settle pivotal character arcs. In his quest to deliver binge-worthy entertainment, he sometimes loses sight of the bigger picture. No iteration of "Yellowstone" is terrible, but some seasons/shows are significantly better than others. Read on to view every...

Kevin Costner has landed a new series amid uncertainty surrounding his “Yellowstone” future. The actor will host and executive produce “Kevin Costner’s The West” (working title) for History Channel, the network announced Wednesday. Historian Doris Kearns Goodwin will also executive produce.
The eight-episode documentary series explores the clichés and myths of the “Wild West” and features various perspectives that “capture the spirit of opportunity, adventure and peril through the diverse, complex characters and untold stories that defined the era and continue to shape our country today.”
“I am in love with history. I love the rich, heroic and harrowing stories of the West. The people and their stories have always held a fascination for me, but there’s an urgency today to put those times and the men and women who we think we know in perspective, in the context of their times, without judgement,” said Costner in a statement.

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “Yellowstone” Season 5.
One of the biggest surprises on this season of “Yellowstone” is the introduction of Clara, played by Lilli Kay. The trusted assistant to now-Governor John Dutton (Kevin Costner), who fired everyone but her once he took control, has a firm push and pull with her boss, giving him pro tips about government even when he doesn’t want to hear them. Kay, who also appeared in series such as “Your Honor” and “Chambers,” has fit in quickly on the show, as comfortable in the halls of the state capitol as she is on horseback.
In the wake of the show’s mid-season finale, Variety spoke with Kay about the joys of working alongside a Hollywood legend, how “Yellowstone” is a unique family affair and how she ended up in the series’ first LGBTQ kissing scene.

Kelly Reilly may be the fan favorite of the popular Paramount Network drama “Yellowstone,” but even she can’t tell you what’s happening when the show returns this summer for the second half of its fifth season. Not because she doesn’t want to, but because like much of the cast she doesn’t know herself. “I haven’t read a word yet,” Reilly admitted to IndieWire via Zoom. But Reilly actually prefers not knowing where the shocking Western drama is going from season to season. “I don’t know and I don’t want to know. When the scripts arrive the work begins,” she said.
The work itself is yielding results, with “Yellowstone” one of the most popular series currently on television. Thank Reilly’s complex antihero. This season gave us a Beth that, while still problematic, was at least trying to find some semblance of humanity, and maybe even…...

Spoiler Alert: This post contains spoilers for “Yellowstone” Season 5.
“Yellowstone” is filled with characters who have strong convictions, and no character has challenged their worldviews quite like Summer Higgins. Played by Golden Globe-nominated actor Piper Perabo, Summer first arrived as a foil to John Dutton (Kevin Costner) in Season 4, an environmental activist whose frequent protests were an annoyance to the then-livestock commissioner. [This story contains spoilers from Yellowstone‘s season five midseason finale, “A Knife and No Coin.”]
Before Summer Higgins got sentenced to 15 years in prison for civil disobedience and assault on Yellowstone, Piper Perabo had her own experience with a protest arrest.
The actress — who plays the environmental activist turned adviser to Gov. Before Summer Higgins got sentenced to 15 years in prison for civil disobedience and assault on Yellowstone, Piper Perabo had her own experience with a protest arrest.

“Yellowstone” Season 5 has been slow, to say the least. So slow, in fact, that this season is actually being cut into two halves with the latter debuting this summer. The midseason finale tried to inject some necessary action into a rather lackluster season, mainly with Jamie (Wes Bentley) and Beth (Kelly Reilly) duking it out, but overall it was more a spinoff for the upcoming Taylor Sheridan spinoff “6666,” starring long-time cast member Jefferson White as cowboy Jimmy, than it was wrapping up any significant threads.
That being said, we were left with a few burning questions about what the second half of Season 5 could, and should, answer.
1. Beth’s killing Jamie, right?
Earlier in December I conjectured that Jamie was contemplating another murder—you know, to go with the previous two he already committed—but assumed he would attempt to take out his father, John (Kevin Costner). Instead, the...

Back in 2000, the film Coyote Ugly did for dive bars what Showgirls had done for strip clubs five years earlier: It basically made a mockery of them on the big screen. While both films were critically panned, the combination of pretty faces and leering customers has helped propel both films to new lives as cult classics over the years. Piper Perabo’s first starring role came in Coyote Ugly, as she played one of the dancing bartenders at the namesake bar; when the film was released, she talked about how she and her co-stars were trained as bartenders before the cameras started rolling. (Click on the media bar below to hear Piper Perabo) https://www.hollywoodoutbreak.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/01/Piper_-Perabo_Coyote_Ugly_.mp3 Coyote Ugly is available on DVD, Blu-Ray, and most digital platforms.

Paramount Network’s Yellowstone wraps up the first half of season five with episode eight, “A Knife and No Coin.” Episode seven ended with Jamie on the verge of going to war with John and Beth. However, episode eight makes us wait a while to get back to that storyline and instead slips into a flashback of young Rip making his first trip with a dead body to the train station.
John (Josh Lucas) asks what Rowdy said that caused Rip to stand up for Beth. John knows without Rip explaining exactly what was said, and he informs Rip that the only fighting he’ll do in the future is to protect the ranch or someone who works there.
Rip is offered the Yellowstone’s brand and told if he accepts, he’s committed his life to the ranch. In exchange,...

Happy New Year! The last time we checked in with the Duttons, it was before Christmas and Jamie was plotting how to impeach his father. On this week’s mid-season finale — the last episode until summer! — we catch up with some old friends, plan assassinations and say goodbye to some Texas-bound cowboys. Dry your tears and chug some whiskey as you catch up with this week’s recap:
Young Rip (Kyle Red Silverstein) seems pretty confident throwing his first person into the Dutton murder pit. I’d be sweating more! Young John (Josh Lucas) discussing the branding with Young Rip, and the latter’s subsequent acceptance with his fellow cowboys, was heartwarming. After a youth spent wandering, Rip finally has a home and a family!

‘Yellowstone’ Actress Lilli Kay Talks About Playing Dutton’s Confidante And A “Lesbian On The Range”
The only Yellowstone character who managed to survive John Dutton’s decision to clean house in the governor’s office was Clara Brewer (Lilli Kay), a green behind the ears assistant who becomes an important ally to the family. It’s a dream role for Kay, whose dad Stephen Kay is a director/EP on the drama while her stepmom Piper Perabo plays Summer, Dutton’s current lover.
“My dad would brag to me about how he was spending every single day with horses and amazing actors,” says Kay, whose credits include Your Honor and Madam Secretary. “I was like, ‘hey, I’m a horse person! I want to come hang out!'”

For its super-sized fifth season, Yellowstone will be ending the first half with “something like” a major cliffhanger, Piper Perabo (activist and environmental advisor Summer Higgins) teases. Hesitating to reveal anything specific, all she could say was, “there’s a lot coming. Things are on the move. I can’t wait to get back to the back half just because I want to know what happens. I personally only know what happens up to the midseason finale up to that last second, and I don’t know what happens when we come back.” Perabo is a fan of Yellowstone, and as one admits, “I’m nervous.” In fact, she recalled the Season 3 finale, which ended with John Dutton (Kevin Costner) getting shot, Beth’s (Kelly Reilly) office exploding, and Kayce (Luke Grimes) under fire. “I wasn’t on the show ...
