Morgan Freeman’s presence in movies usually attracts audience, but even his charisma and soothing voice could not save his 1998 action thriller film, Hard Rain. Directed by cinematographer-turned-director Mikael Salomon, the movie emerged as the biggest flop of that year.

On a more interesting note, fans who have seen the film were so angry they demanded to change the ending. They did not want the legendary icon’s character to die so the studio decided to do a reshoot.

Minnie Driver claims producers for 1998’s Hard Rain told her she couldn’t wear a wetsuit because “they wanted to see my nipples.”
The Good Will Hunting actress said on Mondays’ episode of the I Weigh With Jameela Jamil podcast that she was made to feel like “an idiot” when she pushed back on a costume decision for the disaster action thriller, despite filming in “20 million gallons of water.”
“It’s set during this massive storm,” she explained. “There were huge rain machines. We shot crazy hours. It was tough…. Everybody else could wear a wetsuit underneath their costume, and I was told by the producers that I couldn’t because they wanted to see my nipples, and that there was no point in having the wet T-shirt if you couldn’t have what was underneath it.”

Actors and actresses often come across projects whose filming ends up making them quite uncomfortable and Minnie Driver is no exception. Back in 1998, the actress starred in Mikael Salomon’s heist action-thriller, Hard Rain. While the film didn’t perform well at the box office, bringing in less than $20 million, this was far from what soured Minnie Driver’s memories of the film.
A still from Hard Rain (1998)
According to Minnie Driver, she was made to go through some serious uncomfortable working situations. Apparently, she was not allowed to wear a wet suit underneath her clothes, unlike other actors, despite the fact that they were filming with rain machines. And when Minnie Driver decided to push back, she felt as if she was being punished for speaking up.

Minnie Driver said during a recent interview on Jameela Jamil’s “I Weigh” podcast that producers on her 1998 disaster movie “Hard Rain” allegedly told her not to wear a wetsuit while filming with rain machines because “they wanted to see my nipples” (via Entertainment Weekly). The film, directed by Mikael Salomon, opened a year after Driver’s breakthrough in “Good Will Hunting,” which earned her an Oscar nomination. Morgan Freeman and Christian Slater headlined “Hard Rain.”

Executive producers Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg have reunited for a third historical mini-series, this time taking to the skies with Apple TV+’s “Masters of the Air.” The series follows the members of the 100th Bomb Group, a Boeing B-17 heavy bomber unit that operated in the Air Force during WWII. This isn’t Hanks and Spielberg’s first war-time series, however. They previously executive produced “The Pacific,” which charted the US Marine Corps’ actions in the Pacific Theater of Operations. Before that, they created “Band of Brothers,” which dramatized the story of the Easy Company of the US Army, who went on a mission in Europe during WWII.
“Masters of the Air” looks to be a major Emmys player this year, particularly as it stars popular actors Callum Turner, Austin Butler, and Barry Keoghan. However, before we look ahead at that series’ Emmy potential, lets look back at...

With The Mask of Zorro, Antonio Banderas truly marked himself as a genuine star and sex symbol across the globe. While he earned acclaim for his collaborations with Pedro Almodóvar in Spain and made his presence known in the States with Philadelphia and Interview with the Vampire, The Mask of Zorro was his first leading role to near $100 million at the domestic box office. But the iconic swordsman almost had another man behind the mask: Tom Cruise.
According to The Mask of Zorro‘s original director Mikael Salomon, executive producer Steven Spielberg wanted Tom Cruise to star. “Who else was [in the mix]? Some big — oh yeah, Tom Cruise. Early on, [Spielberg] wanted to offer it to him. Have you heard that? He wanted to offer it to Tom Cruise. And my friend and countryman Bille August had done The House of the Spirits with all non-Latinos, and he got in so much hot water because of that,...

The film gods are a fickle bunch. If the flip of the coin had landed on a different outcome at various points in Hollywood history, the entire landscape of cinema as we know it could be completely changed. In fact, movie star Tom Cruise is something of a cottage industry to himself when it comes to major roles that he could've signed on for, but ended up little more than fascinating notes of trivia -- in our universe, at least. There's the infamous "Iron Man" scenario that could've seen him suit up as Tony Stark instead of Robert Downey, Jr., of course, along with the near-miss of starring in the classic "Shawshank Redemption." But there's one other little-known factoid that completes this little trilogy of alternate-history Cruise projects: one where he could've been cast as the lead of "The Mask of Zorro," incredibly enough.

Martin Scorsese‘s “Killers of the Flower Moon” opens with a flurry of images and incidents that quickly establish the world and era of the film. Moving from an Osage pipe ceremony to a slow-motion shot of characters dancing in gushing oil and then a newsreel recreation that acclimates the viewer to the historical context, Scorsese and co-screenwriter Eric Roth create one of the most immediately involving openings in recent movies. Yet according to Scorsese, a completely different prologue was initially planned.
“Eric and I originally had the idea that we should do the Oklahoma land rush,” Scorsese told IndieWire. “He had written a five- or seven-page description with beautiful vignettes, and I was going to shoot it all in one take. We had it all worked out that it would take another month with a separate unit.” Shooting the sprawling action sequence would have allowed Scorsese to pay tribute...

It's been 22 years since "Band of Brothers" captivated television audiences with its gripping 10-episode tale of a United States paratrooper company's daring, civilization-saving exploits in the European Theater of World War II. And according to its placement on Netflix's top charts, it is as relevant and watchable as ever.
Whether the streamer's subscribers are revisiting the classic miniseries or discovering it for the first time, it's encouraging to know that people are still moved by the heroism of the young soldiers who put their lives on the line to turn back Adolf Hitler's genocidal grab for world domination -- especially as we watch the American Republican party and the country's law enforcement get overrun by the types of white supremacists who contributed to the rise of the Third Reich. Last year it was revealed that after teaming up to bring nightmares to life in The Conjuring cinematic universe, James Wan and Gary Dauberman are looking to bring one of Stephen King's classic stories to the big screen with a film adaptation of ’Salem's Lot, with Wan producing and Dauberman executive producing and writing the screenplay. Nearly one year later, it's now been reported that Dauberman will also direct the latest adaptation of King's beloved 1975 book.
The news comes from The Hollywood Reporter, who report that Dauberman "has closed a deal to direct the feature thriller" for New Line Cinema. This will mark Dauberman's second movie as director, as he made his directorial debut with last year's Annabelle Comes Home.
According to THR, Roy Lee and Mark Wolper will produce the new 'Salem's Lot adaptation alongside Wan. A release date has yet to be announced.

A director has been announced for New Line’s upcoming film version of Stephen King’s classic novel, ‘Salem’s Lot, and it seems the search did not have to go too far or wide: Gary Dauberman, who’s already writing the screenplay, will now get behind the camera as well for the James Wan-produced project, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Dauberman made his directorial debut last year on Annabelle Comes Home, easily the best of the three Annabelle movies and a genuinely creepy exercise in its own right. Dauberman has also written the Annabelle trilogy, as well as The Nun, and also co-wrote the King-based films It and It: Chapter 2 with director Andy Muschietti, all for Warner Bros. Pictures’ New Line division.

At this point, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ governors election looks more like a round-up than a race; more than 180 members have declared their interest in filling 17 contested spots on the 54-member Board of Governors.
Voting in the run-off round starts on Monday and ends May 18. That will narrow the present field to a maximum of four nominees per branch in the final round, which follows.
For now, there are on average about 11 candidates in the running for each slot. In the casting directors and costume design branches, only three members have declared for each slot. But not so in the actors branch, where 17 members — including Brie Larson, Jacki Weaver and Meg Ryan — are vying for the spot being vacated by termed-out Tom Hanks; or the producers, executives, and public relations branches, all of which have a bumper crop of candidates. This fall, Lifetime will take an uncharacteristic trip into horror lit with Big Driver, an adaptation of Stephen King’s same-named short story from his 2010 collection Full Dark, No Stars. Maria Bello stars in the grim and brutal pic, about an author who is brutally raped and assaulted by a truck driver, only to survive and return seeking vengeance.
The project is an unusual one for Lifetime, though the network has been branching out in recent years with increasingly dramatic original series like Witches of East End and The Lottery. Big Driver is also, like many of Lifetime’s programs, a tale of female empowerment led by a particularly steely protagonist.
Now, the suitably dark first trailer for the movie, which also stars Olympia Dukakis, Joan Gett, Ann Dowd and Will Harris, has arrived online. Check it out below, along with the official synopsis for the adaptation.

Not everything goes to plan in this week's eventful episode of Falling Skies. Here's Ron's review...
Review
This review contains spoilers.
4.3 Exodus
It's very rare that an episode of Falling Skies shows a lot of focus towards one pivotal event. This is a show that goes well out of its way to make sure that every possible plot thread gets noted every week, and Exodus is no exception. However, it's also a much more focused episode of television than was broadcast last week. We had check-ins with Matt and Anne and Lexi's cult, but most of the attention was put onto the most important piece of action, the escape from the Espheni ghetto.
Given the build-up to Tom's big escape plan, it's fitting that it actually comes off in the least Falling Skies way possible. Traditionally, this is a show where everything seems to go right for our heroes,...

Add Big Driver, a short story in Stephen King’s 2010 collection Full Dark, No Stars, to the huge list of works by the living literary legend that are in the midst of being adapted to the screen. Lifetime just green-lit a television movie based on the story and has set A History of Violence actress Maria Bello to star.
Big Driver will center on a successful mystery novelist (Bello) who takes an ostensible shortcut on her way home from an engagement at a Chicopee, Massachusetts, library and falls into a trap set by a sinister trucker, who proceeds to brutally rape her and leave her for dead. After recovering from her injuries, the novelist uses the detective skills she picked up from writing mystery novels to track down and take revenge on the trucker and his accomplices.

Rob's daily Band Of Brothers look-back continues with episode three, Carentan...
Read the previous entry in this series, here.
Carentan stands out as one of the most action-packed episodes of the series. The Battle of Carentan was fought in order to ensure that the allied forces had an unbroken defensive line to protect against German attacks. When the blistering assault on Carentan begins and the bullets are whizzing by and people start being picked off, you get a small taste of the chaos these soldiers walked into.
The assault itself was a tremendous piece of action with the men of Easy Company coming under heavy fire and taking several casualties. There is one gruesome moment where a soldier inadvertently walks into an exploding building and emerges with ghastly injuries to his face and body. Looking back on Freezer, a thriller about a car mechanic (Dylan McDermott) confined in a walk-in freezer by Russian mobsters who believe he stole $8 million from them, I can pinpoint the exact moment when my shoulders sagged and I groaned, “Oh, it’s one of those movies.” The revelation came when, after a tense confrontation between McDermott’s Robert Saunders and an icy femme fatale type (Yuliya Snigir), she walks out, the freezer door slams shut and… we’re left to stare at McDermott’s vacant mug for the next ten minutes.
Yep, Freezer is a single-location thriller (or a claustrocore flick, if you want to get fancy about it), following in the footsteps of movies like Buried (Ryan Reynolds in a coffin), Devil (assorted chumps in an elevator with Satan) and Frozen (not the awesome Disney musical, the less-awesome horror flick about three friends stuck on a ski-lift). Unfortunately,...

Freezer was filmed in Edmonton Alberta (shout out!) in the snowy wasteland of Canada, so I can relate to the concept of freezing slowly. It's a one-location thriller directed by Mikael Salomon of Hard Rain fame, so if you liked Buried but wished it was colder then you'll likely love Freezer.
Synopsis:
Dylan McDermott stars as Robert Saunders, a New York City mechanic who is knocked unconscious at his birthday dinner and wakes up to find himself locked inside the restaurant's walk-in freezer. But why he's there - and how he'll survive - will reveal a chilling nightmare of mistaken identity, the Russian mob, a missing $8 million, and a wounded cop (Peter Facinelli) who may hold the key it all. It doesn't get much more lazy than this. Sure, we've dealt with isolated, small area films like Buried, but this is getting ridiculous. The first trailer for a film called Freezer just debuted starring Derbal McDillet Dylan McDermott. And unless you're in a coma, you probably already guessed that the film is about a guy, who is stuck in a freezer. But this isn't just any freezer. It's a restaurant walk-in freezer. Of course, he has know idea why he's there at first, but then learns some stuff about the Russian mob, and blah, blah, blah. This seems like the perfect time to announce my own new film Desk, which features me stuck at work for eight hours. I'm writing it as we speak. Should be done any day now. Watch the trailer below for a good laugh. Here's the first trailer for Mikael Salomon's Freezer, originally from Yahoo:...
