At the beginning of Robert Wise's 1951 sci-fi classic "The Day the Earth Stood Still," a flaying saucer lands in Washington, D.C. and a stern, masked alien named Klaatu (Michael Rennie) emerges. He announces to the gathered military and curious humans that he comes in peace, and even has a gift for the people of Earth. He extracts a small, palm-sized tube and flicks it open, revealing multiple small antennae. The flicking device, however, spooks one of the nearby military men, and he fires off a shot, injuring Klaatu's hand. He falls in pain.
Almost instantly, as if sensing Klaatu's panic, an enormous eight-foot humanoid robot emerges from the flying saucer. It is silvery and featureless, sporting a mysterious visor across its face. This is Gort. Gort steps out onto the ground, and its visor lifts, revealing a glowing power source. A laser beam emerges from Gort's head, striking all the Army's weapons.

Michael Mann confirmed during his press tour for Ferrari that his next film project would be adapting his novel, Heat 2, which serves as both a sequel and a prequel to his popular 1995 film that famously pitted together legendary actors Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Not much is known about the film other than Mann being keen to work with Adam Driver again after Ferrari. However, speculation had grown that Elvis’ Austin Butler would be occupying the role of Chris Shiherlis, which had previously been played by Val Kilmer. Then, there would be fuel added to the fire of rumors thanks to a viral video that was making the rounds which shows Butler doing some gun training at Taran Tactical, which is the same facility where Keanu Reeves trains for the John Wick films.

The highest-paid actors in Hollywood — Tom Cruise, Robert Downey Jr., Keanu Reeves, and others — could easily command millions of dollars in upfront salary. For Avengers: Endgame, Downey Jr. earned a $20 million upfront salary and a $75 million total income. The precedent for these humongous salaries was Elizabeth Taylor’s upfront salary of $1 million for Cleopatra.

The British-American actress worked in the industry for nearly seven decades. A24 picks up the new film from Ruben Ostlund, the director of Triangle Of Sadness – and Kirsten Dunst and Keanu Reeves lead the cast.
We’d imagine that one of the most coveted projects to go to market at Cannes this week is Ruben Östlund’s follow-up to the critically celebrated 202 film, Triangle Of Sadness. It’s called The Entertainment System Is Down, it boasts a glorious premise, an admired director and a leading trio of Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl and Keanu Reeves. Oh, and let’s not forget the giant plane that the production bought before it even found a studio backer.
Whilst studio backing of some sort was never really in doubt given the star power that Östlund has attached to the project, Östlund will likely be particularly happy to have A24 as a partner for the US rights, given that this looks to be one of the...

Glen Powell is acing at his fame game of winning hearts over quite spectacularly, considering how he has not only won fans over from all around the globe but even has his co-stars enchanted by his charmingly alluring personality. A24 acquired the U.S. rights to Ruben Östlund’s The Entertainment System Is Down this weekend.
The eight-figure deal gives A24 U.S. distribution rights to what will be the Swedish film director’s second English-language movie, after 2022’s Triangle of Sadness. The latter won the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2022, which marked Östlund’s second time taking home the prize after 2017’s The Square.
Like his last movie, The Entertainment System Is Down is also a social satire, this time set on a long-haul flight in which the entertainment system fails and passengers must figure out how else to fill their time. Östlund and his producer, Erik Hemmendorff, purchased a real Boeing 747 for the film.
The movie’s cast includes Keanu Reeves, Kirsten Dunst, Daniel Brühl, Nicholas Braun and Samantha Morton, with Dunst and Brühl set to play a married couple.

10. The Good, the Bad and the Ugly (1967)
With the backdrop of the Civil War, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly is already pretty epic by default — but it only gets better. Three bounty hunters have to forge an uneasy alliance to find stolen gold before their competitor does, but they don’t trust each other and anyone else. High stakes, high tension, and pure adrenaline.
You can watch The Good, the Bad and the Ugly on Apple TV and Prime Video.
9. The Godfather (1972)
The first movie in Francis Ford Coppola’s iconic trilogy, The Godfather is often dubbed the best gangster movie in history, and that might just be right. Post-wwii America is still largely ruled by the mafia, and the wise and cunning Godfather leads one of them through tumultuous times as he prepares a transfer of power in the family.
You can watch The Godfather on Netflix and Prime Video.

The John Wick franchise has, in addition to Keanu Reeves’ titular character, given fans multiple stellar characters to be nostalgic about. While the latest iteration ended with Wick seemingly dying at the steps of the Basilica of Sacré Coeur, Donnie Yen’s character has recently received a spinoff, which is set to continue the story of Caine.
Keanu Reeves in John Wick: Chapter 4. | Lionsgate
Yen played a blind assassin in John Wick: Chapter 4, with the spinoff expected to delve into his story following the events of the movie. Regardless, the actor also played an equally memorable role in the 206-released Rogue One, the first installment of the Star Wars anthology series. The movie saw Yen play another badass blind character in the form of Chirrut Imwe, a warrior who believes in the force, and arguably deserves his own spinoff, just like John Wick’s Caine.

The John Wick franchise became a cultural phenomenon after the release of the first film in 2014. There’s hardly a fan of action out there that doesn’t know the name of Keannu Revees’ famous assassin. The franchise is getting bigger as the years go by, and while the main series seems to be over, spin-off movies are planned, and we have just received information that a solo spin-off focusing on Donnie Yen’s character Caine is in the works and will start filming relatively soon!
In case you don’t remember, Yen’s character Caine is a blind assassin who was introduced to the fans in Chapter 4 of the series and was described as an old ally of John’s in the movie.

John Wick is undeniably one of the most successful franchises by director Chad Stahelski, and a major milestone for Keanu Reeves as well who is so loved in the role that fans can’t imagine anyone else as the titular character besides him. However, even before the first movie’s launch, someone had brutally negative thoughts and predictions on how it would turn out to be.
John Wick.
Surprisingly enough, this someone was none other than the mastermind Stahelski himself, who even predicted that the film would be such a massive failure that it would go “straight to video.” But what’s even more stunning than the filmmaker’s own predictions on his blockbuster saga was the fact that Reeves was never supposed to lead the franchise the way he ended up doing!

At long last, Kathryn Bigelow is returning to filmmaking. After 2017’s Detroit, she was developing the David Koepp-scripted thriller Aurora for Netflix but has now moved on to another project for the company. The untitled thriller will unfold in real-time at the White House as a missile attack threatens the United States. THR reports former NBC News president Noah Oppenheim, who also wrote Jackie, scripted the project based on Bigelow’s idea. No additional details were revealed but with Netflix now greenlighting the project, here’s hoping it kicks off before the end of the year.

All eyes at this year’s Cannes Film Festival will be on the hotly anticipated premiere of Francis Ford Coppola’s self-funded epic Megalopolis. Laurence Fishburne is part of the ensemble cast and is no stranger to debuting a pricey, high-profile project at Cannes.
In 2003, Fishburne hit the Croisette for the Wachowskis’ action sequel The Matrix Reloaded, in which he reprised his role as Morpheus after originating the character in the 1999 sci-fi smash. Also in attendance was Fishburne’s then-wife Gina Torres, who played Cas in the sequels.
After The Matrix introduced viewers to Neo (Keanu Reeves), a computer hacker who discovers that humans have been enslaved in a simulation engineered by AI machines, Reloaded catches up six months later with Neo’s journey alongside Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss) and Morpheus as they battle the Machine Army. THR’s review was lukewarm but noted that Fishburne “handles well the transition to...

Could the John Wick universe be poised to introduce an assassin even more formidable than the legendary Baba Yaga (Keanu Reeves) himself? Well, it seems the possibility is high since the acclaimed action franchise is expanding again with Donnie Yen’s enigmatic character, Caine, the blind master of lethality. For the unversed, he was introduced to us in John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).

The John Wick universe continues to grow, with Donnie Yen to get his own spin-off. The film will continue the adventures of his character, Caine.
Keanu Reeves and Chad Stahelski, star and director of the popular John Wick series, may be taking a well-earned break from the franchise, but that isn’t stopping Lionsgate from finding ways to keep the good ship Wick on its journey to box office dollars.
There’s the TV prequel spin-off, The Continental, which has already released, not to mention Ballerina, the recently-delayed spin-off movie that will feature Ana de Armas as an assassin who looks to have graduated from the same killing school that taught John Wick himself.
Gird yourself for more stories from the John Wick universe, though, as it’s been announced by Lionsgate (thanks Dark Horizons) that Donnie Yen’s Caine character will also be getting a spin-off film. It will...

Netflix has teamed up with Oscar-winning director Kathryn Bigelow for a harrowing ticking-clock thriller.
The streamer has greenlit a film centered on a group of White House officials scrambling to deal with an incoming missile attack on the U.S.
Sources say the story will be told in real time and that its tone harkens back to Bigelow’s foreboding 2012 hit Zero Dark Thirty, which chronicled the hunt for Osama bin Laden and the Navy Seal mission to kill the terror leader.
Netflix wouldn’t confirm any details about the project, merely announcing an untitled Bigalow movie at their upfront presentation to advertisers in New York City on Wednesday.
The film — along with a Happy Gilmore sequel announced today — is the first movie greenlit by the streamer’s new film division head Dan Lin. However, the film’s development began during the division’s previous regime led by Scott Stuber,...

The "John Wick" universe is continuing to expand, with or without Keanu Reeves. Lionsgate has announced that a new spin-off set within the world of the beloved action franchise is on the way. This one will focus on Donnie Yen's blind assassin character Caine, who was introduced in last year's "John Wick: Chapter 4." While much about the film remains under wraps for the time being, it will pay off a subplot that was previously teased by director Chad Stahelski.
According to Variety, Yen will star in the currently untitled spin-off film, with Robert Askins ("The Umbrella Academy") set to pen the screenplay. Production is due to begin next year in Hong Kong. The new spin-off is said to "continue Yen's story arc following the events of 'John Wick: Chapter 4,' as Caine has been freed from his obligations to the High Table." Yen had this to...

The project is being developed under Lionsgate’s deal with Chad Stahelski, co-director of the original John Wick film and director of its three follow-ups, to oversee the expansion of the franchise. Robert Askins is writing the screenplay.

Ruben Östlund is checking in two new actors for his next feature. Kirsten Dunst and Daniel Brühl are the latest to join the Swedish filmmaker’s The Entertainment System Is Down.
The feature takes place on a long flight in which the onboard entertainment system fails, leaving the passengers to deal with their own boredom — to darkly comedic results. Östlund is shopping the package at Cannes, with Keanu Reeves already attached to star. The production has purchased a retired Boeing 747 for the shoot.
The filmmaker has stated he aspires for Entertainment System to cause the biggest walkout in Cannes history when it inevitably plays at the fest. Östlund famously included a lengthy vomiting scene in Triangle of Sadness, the 2022 Palm d’Or winner that skewered 1 percent culture amid the backdrop of yachting for the ultra wealthy. Twenty years ago, Troy and its cast made its mark on epic filmmaking. Director Wolfgang Petersen’s take on Homer’s Iliad featured an ensemble cast led by Brad Pitt and created a wildly entertaining, if not entirely accurate, movie.
Working from a script by future Games of Thrones showrunner David Benioff, the Troy cast brought to life legends like Achilles, Helen of Troy, and Hector. Eric Bana, Orlando Bloom, and Diane Kruger were among those who joined Pitt in the impressive cast. While many of the actors haven’t made another film on Troy‘s scale, they continue to perform in blockbuster movies 20 years later.

Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves are among the most iconic pairings of all time. Having starred together in 1994’s Speed, the two have been a fan favorite casting, with many wanting to see more of them on-screen. Hugo Weaving’s iconic way of speaking has become synonymous with villainous roles, but the actor is no stranger to playing positive characters, with one notable example being Elron Half-elven. Appearing in all three The Lord of the Rings entries, Weaving played the character to perfection and was lauded by fans and critics for bringing the character’s archaic style of speech to life.
But despite garnering critical acclaim for his portrayal of the noble ruler, Weaving had no interest in stepping into Elrond’s shoes ever again, as he isn’t particularly a fan of the character.

What the Wachowskis did for Reevesʼ career in 1999 slowly led to his intro into kung-fu in the John Wick franchise which in turn helped the Wachowskisʼ return in the fourth Matrix sequel, bringing the director and actorʼs Hollywood stories full circle.

Lucy Liu was honored with the Legend award at the third annual Gold House Gold Gala on Saturday in Los Angeles.
Liu delivered a passionate speech after accepting the award from Regina King. “What I love about Regina is that she always makes choices that are for her,” Liu told the audience. “When I started over 30 years ago, there weren’t a lot of choices that I could make for myself.”
Liu — whose credits include “Ally McBeal,” “Elementary,” “Kill Bill Vol. 1,” “Charlie’s Angels” and Steven Soderbergh’s “Presence” — talked about having to make casting decisions “because of limitations.” She said, “I love that we are all here tonight because there is no ceiling, and I’ve never seen that for myself.
