The decade of the 1990s can be considered the essential era of movie history, as it paved the way for all modern cinematography. We all know Tarantino and Lynch’s masterpieces, however, there are lots of films which gained unfairly less attention.
Here are 7 movies of that decade, picked by Reddit, claimed to be must-watches for all.
1. Go (1999)
Directed by the Road House filmmaker Doug Liman, this comedy thriller was considered to be even a “junior” Pulp Fiction. It tells four captivating interlinked stories over the course of one night in LA, narrated non-linearly and from several different viewpoints.
2. Sleepers (1996)
Next comes the star-studded crime drama, following a group of men, who are given a chance to perform revenge on a guard brutalizing them at a detention center. It stars such movie giants as Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, Dustin Hoffman and Kevin Bacon.
3. Dark City (1998)

Danny Boyle’s new 28 Years Later movie is filming imminently, and Sony has confirmed a summer 2025 release date for the film too.
No messing around where the franchise-restarting 28 Years Later is concerned. This is the movie that will belatedly follow on from 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, reuniting the creative team behind the first of those films. That’d be director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland, and with 28 Years Later they’re looking to start a brand new trilogy of movies.
Let’s not be one of those cursed internet articles though where you have to read 17 paragraphs to get what you clicked on the piece to find out: the release date for the new film has now been set as June 20th 2025. Just over a year from now.

Oscar-nominated filmmaker Luca Guadagnino knows how to make a goddamn movie. That was clear to fans of his earlier works, like the sumptuous "I Am Love," more than a decade ago. It was clear to most other people about five years ago when the bold one-two punch of "Call Me By Your Name" and "Suspiria" made moviegoers sit up and pay attention. And it's more clear than ever now, with the release of the director's latest (and reportedly biggest-budgeted) effort, the endlessly thrilling Zendaya-led sports drama "Challengers." Film after film, Guadagnino manages to tap into some hidden corners of our hearts by telling stories that are evocative and colorful, musical and sensual, messy and true.
Though Guadagnino has gained more attention in recent years, the filmmaker has actually been working since the '90s and has by now made eight narrative (or meta-narrative) features, a TV show, and several documentaries and shorts.

Recently, I wrote an article about how Ron Howard’s Cocoon was hard to find in any format. It came out on DVD many years ago but went out of print and has never been issued on Blu-ray. You also can’t find it digitally on any platform. This is a perfect example of why you should always hang on to your physical media, as I’m lucky enough to own the now out-of-print DVD of that movie, and while it’s far from an ideal copy, it’s something.
But that got me thinking. What other movies are hard to find? I opened up the forum on Twitter, and I was shocked by how many prominent films aren’t available digitally and have gone out of print on disc, making them all the more precious for collectors. At the same time, there are some happy endings, such as Martin Campbell’s No Escape,...

Fans of 28 Days Later are eating well after the announcement that Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are reuniting to work on a continuation of their popular zombie film. We’ve been keeping track of what’s happening with the new movie in our 28 Years Later: Everything We Know article. The biggest revelation so far is the news that the upcoming sequel will actually be a trilogy of films. Both Garland and Boyle confirmed their collaboration. Garland said, “A few years ago an idea materialized in my head for what would be really 28 Years Later. Danny always liked the idea.“ Boyle added, “So we’re talking about it quite seriously, quite diligently. If he doesn’t want to direct it himself I’ll be well up for it if we can execute a similarly good idea.“
Deadline is now reporting that Jack O’Connell will be joining the cast of the trilogy.

Harry Potter author J.K. Rowling's initial concerns about the trans community divided opinions but seemed to at least come from a place of concern. However, in the years that have followed, her comments have become increasingly controversial and led to fans and peers alike washing their hands of the writer.
Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson are among the Harry Potter stars who have made a point of disagreeing with Rowling while sharing their support for trans people. Recently, the author was asked if she'd forgive the duo should they make a public apology and whether they're safe in the knowledge she'd do so.
"Not safe, I'm afraid," Rowling responded. "Celebs who cosied up to a movement intent on eroding women's hard-won rights and who used their platforms to cheer on the transitioning of minors can save their apologies for traumatised detransitioners and vulnerable women reliant on single sex spaces.

A lot has been recently said about Danny Boyle’s upcoming series of sequels for 2002’s post-apocalyptic horror 28 Days Later, but not much has been revealed about Cillian Murphy’s role in them — until now.
The actor who initially starred in the original movie, to many fans’ biggest delight, will be back not only as an executive producer, but also as an actor. The hitch here is that now his role will be pretty much different.
According to Hollywood’s insider Jeff Sneider, Murphy won’t be returning in the first movie, but will nonetheless have a big cameo in the second one and an even bigger role in the third one.
The news hasn’t been confirmed officially and so far neither Boyle himself nor the movies’ writer Alex Garland (who’s probably busy coping with all the raving success of his latest movie Civil War) have said...

Cillian Murphy will be returning for the new 28 Years Later trilogy of films – but, and look away if you don’t want to know, his involvement isn’t straightforward.
Ever since it was revealed back in February that we’d be getting another film in the 28 Days Later series, the good news tap hasn’t turned off.
Danny Boyle and Alex Garland are back to reprise their creative partnership of director and writer. Cillian Murphy – the star of the original film – publicly declared that he was making himself ‘available’ and if all of that wasn’t good enough, we then heard that no less than Jodie Comer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Ralph Fiennes would lead the cast for the new film.
Now, thanks to a report from Jeff Sneider (via World Of Reel), we’ve got an insight regarding Cillian Murphy’s involvement.

Uberto Pasolini, who wrote and directed the James Norton-starring Nowhere Special that opened this weekend, says, rightfully, the film’s power emanates from the tangible bond you feel between father and son. Norton – the BAFTA-nominated British actor (Bob Marley: One Love, Little Women, Happy Valley) – is John a 35-year old window washer and single father to four-year old Michael (BIFA-nominated Daniel Lamot). John has been diagnosed with a terminal illness and is on a quest to place his son in a loving home.
Norton “understood that the film lived or died — would have lived or died — on the relationship and on the connection between the two. And so he came over to Belfast before we started shooting and spent an enormous amount of time with the family, with the boy himself. Aaron Taylor-Johnson has just been confirmed for another major role, but it’s not the one that you may think of.
The actor has signed up to star in 28 Years Later, an upcoming post-apocalyptic movie directed by Danny Boyle and written by Alex Garland, whose most recent hit Civil War is now blowing all the theaters up.
Killing Eve’s Jodie Comer and Harry Potter’s Ralph Fiennes are also in. The plot details are still under wraps, but the film will surely have connections with the 2002 original horror 28 Days Later that starred Cillian Murphy and Naomie Harris.
The original storyline revolves around bicycle courier Jim, portrayed by Murphy, who wakes up from coma amid a global pandemic caused by some aggression-inducing virus. In an attempt to survive, Jim will have to team up with a few lucky ones who haven’t turned into furious zombies yet.

Danny Boyle's lo-fi 2002 zombie apocalypse film "28 Days Later" caused a stir in the horror community for its grainy digital photography (shot by Anthony Dod Mantle) and for its introduction of "fast zombies" into the pop vernacular. The zombies in "28 Days Later" were, unlike most movie zombies seen up to that point, fast-moving and vicious rather than mindless and shambling. It is credited for breathing new life into the zombie genre, followed as it was by other zombie hits like the "Dawn of the Dead" remake, George Romero's "Land of the Dead," and the hit 2010 series "The Walking Dead." "28 Days Later" also tapped into a lot of America's post-9/11 ennui, presenting hard-edged images of urban desolation. Everyone felt like the world had ended, and Boyle aesthetically agreed.

Robert Downey Jr. in “Oppenheimer” had it easy this year.

And despite landing in a powerhouse lineup that included Sterling K. J.K. Rowling is an author who has made several generations happy with her Harry Potter series, which was later adapted into a successful movie series. A TV series adaptation is on the way, but while the series itself is still one of the most beloved ones, the author has been a topic of debate for several years now due to her views on the transgender community and their issues. Recently, the feud deepened as Rowling attacked Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson, the two stars of the movie series because they had criticized her in their comments.
In short, Rowling has been quite open about her opposition to the transgender movement, criticizing some of its postulates as degrading toward actual women. While the author has been criticized for her opinions, she remains firm in stating that she is simply defending basic women’s rights from potential abuse. This resulted in many...

His new company is based in New York City and it was named after 65 Bleecker Street, the street address of Karpen's other company Focus Features. This brand new studio was established with the goal to distribute "smart house" films that combine the entertainment of studio blockbusters with the artistic indie allure. Even if you don't know them by name, you definitely know some of the films they've released over the last 10 years: I'll See You In My Dreams, Arctic, The Art of Self-Defense, Logan Lucky, Eye in the Sky, Leave No Trace,...

Fiennes is known for starring in films with heavy subject matter and complex storytelling. Edward Berger’s last film, “All Quiet on the Western Front,” won four Academy Awards — including Best International Feature Film — for Netflix. The director’s new epic, “Conclave,” which is set up at Focus Features, may just best that tally.
Attendees at the 2024 CinemaCon convention in Las Vegas got a look at first footage from the film during the Universal Pictures and Focus Features presentation on Wednesday, April 10. A papal thriller starring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini, “Conclave” is no doubt an Oscar hopeful for Focus given its November 2024 release date. Having seen the trailer only reinforces the awards play. Give the devil its due: “Conclave” looks good.
When the pope dies, “Conclave” scrambles to find God’s new messenger on Earth. The search turns into a holy war that is anything but holy. Focus Features chairman Peter Kujawski described the film as a “Machiavellian thriller.
