RavenGlamDVDCollector's DVD Inventory (3) Mini-Series
My list of TV mini-series that I own on DVD. Admittedly, this entry is minuscule, as there aren't that many of them on my list of priorities.

- StarsPoppy MontgomeryPatricia RichardsonPatrick DempseyA fictional biography of Marilyn Monroe mixed with series of real events in her life.Very, very disappointing. If only Poppy Montgomery had been half as good as the little girl... Got a BAFTA award? Well, so much for BAFTA awards, then.
I originally thought, gee, the book was fantastic. Here, the book is filmed! Wow, gotta get this! Bah...
It's not only as if it doesn't live up to my high expectations, the whole thing is an absolute letdown.
Dump this and read the book! - StarsAnna FalchiFranco NeroSophie von KesselDesideria is the eldest daughter of the Dragon King and Queen and heir to the throne and the Dragon Ring. If she marries a prince that is. When she finds her prince however it turns out to be a rebel prince. When her father finds out she tries to help the prince escape he decides to let all the princes in his conquered kingdoms fight in a tournament for her hand in marriage. Meanwhile her jealous adopted sister tries to get rid of her.Italian, DESIDERIA E L'ANELLO DEL DRAGO. Fortunately, there was a dubbed version out there, which I got to see. Which led to (ahem) my love affair with Anna Falchi. Sigh...
Here listed as a TV movie? I knew it, in South Africa, as a mini-series, and it is presented that way on the German set* I obtained, DER RING DES DRACHEN, or something like that, give or take an umlaut.
*looks exactly like the image here
I only have a vague understanding of basic German, and trying to recapture my original enjoyment of it during the mid-90s on South African pay channel M-Net, is just not possible without that much needed (dubbed) English soundtrack, DESIDERIA AND THE DRAGON RING.
But Anna Falchi is just about one of the prettiest chicks ever committed to film, and the story is a wonderful kaleidoscope of color. Elsewhere, it is described as a story that is too childish for adults, but too mature for children, and, yes, of course that is true. Let's just call it a fairytale for adults who are still in touch with their inner child. Be warned that there are talking puppets and a mechanical dragon that really fail to convey authenticity, and that is putting it mildly. It is the spirit of the thing, however, that is beautiful. That, and Anna Falchi. Of course, I'd get delirious commentating on a potato sack race if Anna Falchi was part of it... - StarsJoely RichardsonSean BeanJames WilbyA young woman's husband returns wounded after the First World War. Facing a life with a husband now incapable of sexual activity she begins an affair with the groundskeeper.Watching NIP/TUCK, I decided to do some research on Joely Richardson, and came up with the info of this, so I got me the set. Much better fun than NIP/TUCK.
- StarsBruce BoxleitnerHunter TyloKabir BediPatrick O'Reilly is a handsome police officer living in Montreal where he is engaged to a pretty young doctor. Messua has a secret. She has led Patrick to believe she is the daughter of a poor farmer. Little does he know she is the Maharaja's daughter! Messua returns to India to visit her father, the Maharaja of Lahore. Upon her stay, an evil prince asks for her hand in marriage as he sees it as an opportunity to take the throne. When she refuses he kidnaps her, and when her plane back to Canada crashes everyone assumes that she is dead ... everyone except Patrick! Patrick and his friend decide to search for the woman of his dreams in an oriental world full of secrets.A Dutch set, with English soundtrack available.
Unwatched as yet. I loved it back in the day, and plan to watch during the South African early summer months of 2016. It took me some effort to locate, because at that time, I didn't have Internet access, and ordered by landline phone, and I gave the spelling as “The Maharadjah's Daughter” so “Sorry, Sir, we don't have it” was all I got.
By the way, IMDb, the stars are Hunter Tylo, Bruce Boxleitner and Kabir Bedi. The way it appears here is very, very confusing. - StarsPeter O'ToolePeter StraussBarbara CarreraAfter the destruction of the Second Temple, nine hundred Jewish zealots hold out against a five thousand man Roman legion on the mountaintop fortress of Masada.MASADA. Why change the name?
It doesn't really belong in my collection, I only had a vague recollection of Barbara Carrera in it, and the relationship between the captive and her master, so I refreshed my memory. I will admit that this is really powerful drama, of course, no question about that, it's kinda hectic there in the climax, but I am RavenGlamDVDCollector, I want the actresses to be the focal point. This is Peter O'Toole and Peter Strauss's show, and Barbara is relegated to a bit part, nothing more than set dressing (by comparison), and worst of all, a disappointing performance by her, while everything else is just top notch. Duck your heads for those catapults!
