- DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsHarvey KeitelZina BethuneAnne ColletteA young man can't accept the girl he likes because of her bitter past.Scorsese's debut (and Harvey Keitel's too) doesn't really have much of a story, but when its viewed now it really shows the directors roots and well.
B+ - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroHarvey KeitelDavid ProvalIn New York City's Little Italy, a devoutly Catholic mobster must reconcile his desire for power, his feelings for his epileptic lover, and his devotion to his troublesome friend.Still not much of a story here, but it's special for Robert DeNiro's performance and because it kicked off the film partnership between them.
A- - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsEllen BurstynKris KristoffersonMia BendixsenA recently widowed woman is on the road with her precocious young son, determined to make a new life for herself as a singer.I think this is far from a great movie, but it is certainly memorable due to Burstyn's performance.
B+ - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroJodie FosterCybill ShepherdA mentally unstable veteran works as a nighttime taxi driver in New York City, where the perceived decadence and sleaze fuels his urge for violent action. This was the one that grabbed our attention and deserved it. Though he recieved no credit for it, this was nominated for a few deserved awards and is really one of the most wild and original films ever to be delivered to a cinema.
A+ - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroCathy MoriartyJoe PesciThe life of boxer Jake LaMotta, whose violence and temper that led him to the top in the ring destroyed his life outside of it.Robert Deniro's best work by far, and, if I may say so myself, better than Taxi Driver.
A+ - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroJerry LewisDiahnne AbbottA passionate yet unsuccessful comedian stalks and kidnaps his idol to take the spotlight for himself. An unlikely Scorsese movie, a bizarre Scorsese movie, and a damn good Scorsese movie.
A- - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsGriffin DunneRosanna ArquetteVerna BloomAn ordinary word processor has the worst night of his life after he agrees to visit a girl in Soho he met that evening at a coffee shop. What I love about Scorsese is how he is always experimenting with genres, and After Hours is the perfect example. It's a comedy, and yet it's quite mysterious and thrilling. This is one of those that nobody thinks of, and it's a pity. I had a blast with this one.
A- - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsPaul NewmanTom CruiseMary Elizabeth MastrantonioFast Eddie Felson teaches a cocky but immensely talented protégé the ropes of pool hustling, which in turn inspires him to make an unlikely comeback. The worst of the bunch. Paul Newman finally won a long overdue Oscar here. But I thought the movie was a bit dull, and Tom Cruise's performance (and I can't believe I'm saying this) is way too over-the-top.
C+ - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsWillem DafoeHarvey KeitelBarbara HersheyThe life of Jesus Christ, his journey through life as he faces the struggles all humans do, and his final temptation on the cross. What was all the fuss about? Some moments left me questioning but really I thought that this was an excellent film which pretty much stayed true to the bible stories. Despite the last scene.
A - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroRay LiottaJoe PesciThe story of Henry Hill and his life in the mafia, covering his relationship with his wife Karen and his mob partners Jimmy Conway and Tommy DeVito. How in the hell did he not win an Oscar for this? Easily one of his best and more than worthy of best picture, director, and screenplay. The only person who went home happy was Joe Pesci, and he deserved it too. This is one of the best mob movies.
A+ - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroNick NolteJessica LangeA convicted rapist, released from prison after serving a fourteen-year sentence, stalks the family of the lawyer who originally defended him. This is one of the most thrilling remakes, thanks to Robert DeNiro.
A- - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsDaniel Day-LewisMichelle PfeifferWinona RyderA tale of nineteenth-century New York high society in which a young lawyer falls in love with a woman separated from her husband, while he is engaged to the woman's cousin. This is a heart-wrenching tale of love and regret that is romance done right. Everything about it is gorgeous. But it's too long.
A- - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsRobert De NiroSharon StoneJoe PesciIn Las Vegas, two best friends - a casino executive and a mafia enforcer - compete for a gambling empire and a fast-living, fast-loving socialite.Another great mob movie, it also does a great job of telling a story of betrayl. Some of the best three hours ever spent.
A - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsNicolas CagePatricia ArquetteJohn GoodmanHaunted by the patients he failed to save, a monumentally burned-out Manhattan ambulance paramedic fights to maintain his sanity over three increasingly turbulent nights.Good performances from Nicolas Cage and Patricia Arquette, but not a whole lot happens.
B- - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioCameron DiazDaniel Day-LewisIn 1862, Amsterdam Vallon returns to the Five Points area of New York City seeking revenge against Bill the Butcher; his father's killer.A perfect movie, but flawed still. At the end of the day, the story, cast, and everything about it are overshadowed by Daniel Day Lewis's extraordinary performance.
A+ - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioCate BlanchettKate BeckinsaleA biopic depicting the early years of legendary director and aviator Howard Hughes' career from the late 1920s to the mid 1940s.A way too long but fascinating biopic on Howard Hughes that lets DiCaprio spread his wings and fly. And perfectly I might add.
A - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioMatt DamonJack NicholsonAn undercover cop and a mole in the police attempt to identify each other while infiltrating an Irish gang in South Boston. This is quite a bold statement, but I think that this is Scorsese's masterpiece. He finally won his long overdue Oscar for this film, and once you see it, you'll know why.
A+ - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioEmily MortimerMark RuffaloTeddy Daniels and Chuck Aule, two US marshals, are sent to an asylum on a remote island in order to investigate the disappearance of a patient, where Teddy uncovers a shocking truth about the place.A nail biting thriller that doesn't quite match the book but comes pretty close.
A- - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsAsa ButterfieldChloë Grace MoretzChristopher LeeIn 1931 Paris, an orphan living in the walls of a train station gets wrapped up in a mystery involving his late father and an automaton.Hugo is another example of Scorsese trying different genres. This is one of his best movies. Gorgeous, lovely, and flat out fascinating, this is the first movie in which Scorsese gets to make a movie about what he loves: Movies.
A+ - DirectorMartin ScorseseStarsLeonardo DiCaprioJonah HillMargot RobbieBased on the true story of Jordan Belfort, from his rise to a wealthy stock-broker living the high life to his fall involving crime, corruption and the federal government.Possibly Scorsese's most misunderstood film in over a decade, The Wolf of Wall Street is a masterpiece. Leonardo DiCaprio gives what might be the best performance of his career.
