The Most Complex Films Ever Made
Intelligence has sometimes been defined as "the ability to handle complexity". This is a list for people who love complexity in the arts. It is also useful for those who want to test their intelligence by seeing how much complexity they can handle before getting confused. All of these films are structurally complex, intellectually complex, or both. The top ten contain scenes that many would find nothing short of Byzantine. Number one is sometimes considered to be incomprehensible.
Note: complexity and ambiguousness are not the same thing. If a film is enigmatic but is not particularly complex (in its structure, themes, characterization, etc.), that film will likely not appear here. THE GREAT GATSBY, for example, has ambiguous scenes but is not necessarily as complex as the works you will find here.
