In Theaters: The Black Balloon

Opening in limited release this week is The Black Balloon, one boy's discovery that fitting in and family don't always go hand in hand. When 16-year-old Thomas (Rhys Wakefield) and his family move, the timeless plight of every teenager in the same situation begins: trying to blend in with everyone in a new place. Fitting in becomes even harder than usual, however, when Thomas's father (Erik Thomson) asks him to look after his autistic brother Charlie (Luke Ford). Not wanting to let down his pregnant mother (Toni Collette), who is confined to bed rest, Thomas reluctantly accepts the responsibility. What follows is an exploration of Thomas's efforts to reconcile the frustrating and sometimes embarrassing demands of caring for his brother while still making friends and falling in love with a beautiful girl (Gemma Ward), balancing the growing pains of youth with an abiding dedication to his family.

More Short Films On IMDb Theaters -- Movie and TV-Themed Edition
IMDb Theaters is creating an online global showcase for studio and independent film, by putting a play button on every page. Fans are now able to watch works from the world's most exciting new filmmakers right on IMDb title pages. Take a look at just a handful of the many independent films available to watch right now, in their entirety:
Nohasfrontwo: This is the story of Dracula Jr., who must make a kill, despite having lost his fangs in a childhood golfing accident; a stylistic and thematic parody of Nosferatu and silent film in general, with respect.
Good Night Valentino: The true story of a dinner between silent movie idol Rudolph Valentino and famed journalist H.L. Mencken one week before Valentino's tragic death at age 31, it is also a tribute to silent film itself.
The Audition: A down and out actor gets the audition of a lifetime where every word counts.
The TV Broke: When the TV breaks, a couple discovers something unexpected.
Trailer of My Life: Join the adventure, live the fantasy, and experience life in a whole new way as one man's life is transformed into a movie preview.
