- The Deep Ellum Film Festival was founded by lovers of cinema and the arts, who saw an opportunity to create an atmosphere where American and Latin American filmmakers could find their new ideas nurtured, their creativity rewarded and their original voices heard. We wanted to create a place where pushing the art form would be recognized as well as a festival that would be very filmmaker, film buff and film critic friendly. (from the festival's web site, 2000)
