- This romantic story turns on a stirring infatuation that takes hold of three young people under the influence of Simon, a Prague student. After the study year, 18 year-old Julio returns to his parental home, a little chateau on the Otava river. There he converges with his childhood friend Petr and the young boatman's daughter Klárka. Sharing her beguilement with Simon, who has quickly turned a tranquil summer atmosphere into a relationship drama, is Julio's cousin Rosa.
- Young and stunningly beautiful Hana is thrown into the street after her mother catches her stepfather sexually harassing Hana. She finds a new job at a café where she becomes the object of lust for her new boss and the sleazy male customers. Hana, who is still repulsed by men, rejects their offers and expensive gifts. She later falls in love with a young composer Pavel but he soon falls seriously ill and only an expensive medical treatment can save him. Hana starts thinking about accepting the indecent proposal made by one of her customers to get the money needed for Pavel's therapy.
- Zuzanka (Natasa Gollová) can finally stop toiling away at washing dishes at hotel Mercur after a distant aunt has bequeathed her her own hotel - Blue Star. She proudly marches over to the luxury hotel in the center of town and immediately begins to change the personnel. Because this involves the facilities belonging to a joint-stock company, which no one can inherit, she is considered insane. It comes out that her inheritance is in reality a small, shabby little hotel of the same name in the IV town district. The personnel are three unemployed youths who in this way work off the money they owe for rent. The first guest is wealthy Vladimír Rychta Rohan (Oldrich Nový), whose parents spent their honeymoon in this very hotel. He wants to celebrate his wedding there, with which his fiancée Milada (Adina Mandlová), who is waiting for him at the luxurious Blue Star, does not concur.
- Many local dignitaries are gathered at an auction organized by the notary Dr Jan Karas (Oldrich Nový) at Lucín castle to sell off the belongings of the late count. Most interest is aroused by a portrait of a beautiful noble girl, but no-one buys it because it is said to be cursed. Until the young count arrives to decide what to do with the portrait, Karas keeps it at home. Fascinated by the beauty of the girl, Karas spends hours in front of the portrait. Then one day he kisses it and the girl (Lída Baarová) comes to life and steps out of the picture. The girl introduces herself as countess Blanka of Blankenberg, and has no intention of getting back into the canvas.
- After several years abroad Michal Nor comes back home to his aunt Pa and his sister Eva who just came back from board school. Aunt Pa is having a birthday soon and Eva knows that she would very much like the recipe for growing a special species of rose that her neighbor Mr. Záhorský had bred. However her aunt has difficult relationship with her neighbors and so Eva wants to steals the recipe. She poses as the neighbors' secretary. By coincidence Michal is also in the house but impersonating an English earl. And so begins a chain of funny accidents and misunderstandings.

- "Grandmother" is a highly romanticized autobiographical novel by a Czech 19th century writer, Bozena Nemcova. It's a classical, compulsory reading in Czech schools, about a wise, working-class woman, happier in her simplicity and good heart than the nobles whom she serves.
- Josef Hupka loves music more than anything in the world. He fails his graduation and joins wandering musicians. His wife becomes the violinist Hanci, who gives birth to his son Hynek. Unfortunately, however, Hanci dies of typhus and Josef is left alone with his son. He tries to make a living by playing on the street.
- Fred Baron, a businessman, wants to commit suicide because he has no money to pay his notes and owes Mr. Haller money he lost to him at Linde's gambling house. Ronny, an adventurer, stops him from committing suicide and promises to help him.
- Rudolf Barrtos, the owner of a farm, quarry and factory, is extremely rich, however, he is unapproachable and irritable, and the dread of his employees. One day he falls down a steep slope by a river and hurts himself. The quarryman Fabera finds him groaning in pain and takes him to his cottage.
